Already people are planning on breaking the rules, FFS.

cantkeepawayforever · 31/10/2020 23:04

@justgeton

We will be travelling to our holiday home. We won't go out. We won't see anyone and we will take everything we need.

We won't be seeing anyone at home either. Just me and husband.

If anyone sees any risk, greater than bubbles, work (neither of us work) please enlighten me

That's fine. Come back at the start of December and all is fine.

Of course. They are SPECIAL.
justasking111 · 31/10/2020 23:05

Feel sorry for those people who booked the canaries when it re-opened that is their hopes dashed.

Wales34 · 31/10/2020 23:06

Hi there, travel is discouraged but overnight stays are not allowed

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 23:07

It’s really interesting actually, the different attitudes. Like some people think how can I make the best of this rubbish situation (obviously within the rules). But others go straight to What are the rules? Ok how can I get around them?

Bwlch · 31/10/2020 23:07

It's a month. Go to your second home early this week, and check that everything is OK. Do any essential maintenance, leave a key with whoever keeps an eye on it, and visit again in December. Not hard.

Or do the same where you are living now. Close up, move to your second home. Stay there for 4 weeks. Move back in December.

Unfortunately, some of us have to go to work.

Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 23:08

No, you are using an idiot's behaviour as an excuse to do something you know you shouldn't do.

I don't think it's something I shouldn't do, sorry. As explained above, I think it's harmless. I don't go to the pub or restaurants and haven't met friends or family indoors since March. But I will go to my own house.

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 23:09

Go before Thursday and back in December, all fine. Travel within those dates and on your conscience be it

Jenasaurus · 31/10/2020 23:09

My friend is meant to be going to Mauritius for her sons wedding In November, she was aware she had to do a COVID test before travelling, does this mean that she is unable to go now? I am guessing her son wont be able to travel as well, but will get a refund if its part of lockdown, I feel for her and him as they have been looking forward to this for a couple of years.

U8myufo · 31/10/2020 23:10

It's massively disrespectful to local communities, I should imagine nobody wants second home owners faffing about escaping their own lockdowns. They certainly don't here. Spreading the virus about and thinking they're exempt from what everyone else has to follow

LuluJakey1 · 31/10/2020 23:10

MNet already has a number of posts from people who seem to want to push the rules and are looking for gaps to see what they might get away with. I am so sick of it all- to those people, just do as has been asked. That's all you have to do
And next time things are more relaxed do not go off stuffing yourselves in restaurants 3x a week, holidaying abroad, drinking in large groups, having parties, filling your house at Christmas and New Year etc. Just be fucking sensible for a few months and we might not end up in this mess again.

Sertchgi123 · 31/10/2020 23:10

You don’t get to make up your own rules, just to suit you, FFS.
ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 23:10

Belch it’s totally fine if it’s unavoidable for work

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 23:11

Sorry Bwlch autocorrect of course!

Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 23:12

Are you for real? Imagine if half the population had a second home and were shuffling the virus around the country all through lockdown, think it would work then?

Firstly, this is a straw man argument as half the population don't have a second home so we don't need to debate it.

Secondly, even if they did, if they all went back and forth to their homes in the way that I do (working from home and driving door to door) then the risk is really very minimal of any 'shuffling'.

Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 23:14

I'm part of that local community, given that I own a house, spend time there (albeit not the majority of my time) and pay council tax (in both locations). So I don't really have to think about what the 'community' thinks as I'm part of it.

Carrotghoul · 31/10/2020 23:14

To be hopes none of you 'essentially travelling' between homes have car accidents and end up in the covid riddled hospitals because you didn't want to stay home so took unnecessary car journeys.

Purpledaisychain · 31/10/2020 23:14

And so it begins, the trying to find loop holes and twisting the prime minister's words.

He listed the reasons why you can leave your home. Travel wasn't mentioned.

It's annoying OP. Believe me I know. I had plans that have now been scuppered by this announcement. A lot of people are in the same boat. But we need to follow the guidelines, be selfless and stick together on this.

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 23:14

I will concede that fewer than half the population have second homes.

But you’re simply planning to break the rules. As I say, on your conscience be it.

justgeton · 31/10/2020 23:14

@U8myufo

But if you enter your own front door and don't leave, what is the risk?
Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 23:16

But you’re simply planning to break the rules. As I say, on your conscience be it.

LOL thank you. On your conscience be any socialising you've done since March, any meals out you've had, any pubs you've been to, any gatherings you've attended, any non-essential shops you've been into, any haircuts you've had. I haven't done any of that. My conscience is just dandy thank you.

StCharlotte · 31/10/2020 23:17

@Bwlch

Going to a second home isn’t essential though surely?

It might be. It will depend on the weather. I hope we can avoid it though.

Why? Is your first home a tent?
Hopeisnotastrategy · 31/10/2020 23:18

@BarbaraofSeville

^Who goes away in November anyway?

Not exactly holiday season^

Eh? We've had to cancel mountain biking in southern Spain.

Last year we were diving in Gran Canaria in late November. Of course people go on holiday in November.

Quite, BarbaraofSeville

Sensible folk who live where we do know this is the perfect time of year for a holiday. 😊 👍🏻

middleager · 31/10/2020 23:18

People are mentioning tiers on this thread still. Why?

I thought the lockdown 'cancelled out' tiers as this is nationwide and we are all on the same tier.

Even more confused now Confused
