If anyone’s that desperate then presumably they can go to their second home before Thursday and stay there for the duration

ktp100 · 31/10/2020 22:43

No.

It was pretty clearly a 'stay at home' message (with listed exceptions that don't include holidays!)

PuppyMonkey · 31/10/2020 22:44

Travel is essential if we want to get to our second home.

Grin Confused Hmm
ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 22:44

if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes

Hahahahaaha - that's so MPs can do what they like still. And all their relatives and friends who will suddenly need to be travelling back and forth from country home to London.

people are trying to get round it ‘I’ll go to my holiday home to work’

The guidance says you can do that. For work purposes. If you're going somewhere to stay there for the duration of the lockdown, and both places are currently in Tier 1, then I'm not sure anyone could argue that it's not OK.

UK locations like Cornwall have much higher numbers of COVID than during the start of the pandemic in the Spring.

Erm.. so does my county in the middle of England. Bloody Cornish exceptionalism. Sometimes Cornish people leave Cornwall and travel elsewhere, maybe they've brought it back with them.

missmouse101 · 31/10/2020 22:44

It's bloody travelling around on holidays that contributed to this mess. Holidays are not essential, so no.

movingonup20 · 31/10/2020 22:45

@SandrasAnnoyingFriend

The explicitly said that child contact should continue so if you carry relevant documentation you should be fine

Ilovemypantry · 31/10/2020 22:50

@Bwlch

No non essential travel (within the UK or internationally).

Please tell me that was meant to be a joke!
Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 22:51

Why do you think you are allowed to travel around the UK just because you have a second home?

Where's the harm exactly? Get in my car and drive door to door. Get grocery deliveries there same as I do here. Continue to work from home in either location. Seriously - where's the harm?

Also, I seem to remember the government being fine with Dominic Cummings doing this WITH the addition of a trip to a local hospital, a petrol station and a scenic town and bluebell wood, plus socialising with his family.

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 22:53

FFS whatever the rights and wrongs of the rest of your argument who cares what Dominic Cummings did. If he jumped off a cliff, would you follow?

cantkeepawayforever · 31/10/2020 22:54

I imagine that the exception is allowed for people like my DH - who lives away during the week to work in an essential service that is still open.

Not for holidays / a change of scene.

his is rather tired now,. Yes, someone in the public eye did something obviously and wholly wrong. He was an idiot.

A whole load of people, who should no better, have used this as an excuse to do what they want to.

Be better than an idiot, rather than choosing them as a role model.

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 22:58

be better than an idiot perfect response!

Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 22:58

The point is not that he did something wrong. The point is that he did it with Boris Johnson's express backing. He and all the Tories came out on social media saying he just did what a good father would do. He was right. It was understandable. And now I'm expected not to do something completely un-harmful because Boris Johnson says so. Nope, not playing this silly game.

Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 22:59

I am. I would never do what he did. But Boris thinks what he did was fine, so any non-essential travel that I do is definitely fine.

No, you are using an idiot's behaviour as an excuse to do something you know you shouldn't do.

Sorry, I don't think it will wash any more.

CoronaIsWatching · 31/10/2020 23:00

No, you need to board up your windows and doors

Legoandloldolls · 31/10/2020 23:00

6i had a weekend break booked for next weekend and Lapland UK. I presume both are down the shitter now.

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 23:01

Are you for real? Imagine if half the population had a second home and were shuffling the virus around the country all through lockdown, think it would work then?

cantkeepawayforever · 31/10/2020 23:02

It's a month. Go to your second home early this week, and check that everything is OK. Do any essential maintenance, leave a key with whoever keeps an eye on it, and visit again in December. Not hard.

Or do the same where you are living now. Close up, move to your second home. Stay there for 4 weeks. Move back in December.

justgeton · 31/10/2020 23:02

We will be travelling to our holiday home. We won't go out. We won't see anyone and we will take everything we need.

We won't be seeing anyone at home either. Just me and husband.

If anyone sees any risk, greater than bubbles, work (neither of us work) please enlighten me

Sertchgi123 · 31/10/2020 23:02

No non essential travel (within the UK or internationally).

Travel is essential if we want to get to our second home.

Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with.
ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 31/10/2020 23:03

It is a real shame for those of us who have had to cancel hols. Frigging covid

Ah, but HE did something wrong so I can do it too...

As a primary teacher, I see this all the time. Most children grow out of it.

It isn't a grey area. It isn't allowed.
