Are we heading for another national lockdown

Do you think we are going in the same direction as France and Germany? And do you think schools will stay open if we do?

OP posts:
Ihaveyourback · 30/10/2020 17:17

I do now suspect a lockdown will be necessary - they will keep schools open until christmas with perhaps an extended break.

I don't think they will close the schools again like the last lockdown, it would not be fair as the children are not even at risk. I would expect to see highly vulnerable teachers and staff to shield, and those children that are from vulnerable families. Everyone else will go in.
Teachers will work as keyworkers along with everyone else throughout the pandemic (as we did all the way through)

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 30/10/2020 17:23

@Waxonwaxoff0

I hope not. Schools should not close, it isn't fair on the kids.
Presumably having a health service with the capacity to treat them, their family members not ill etc is far more of benefit to them than switching to learn at home instead of a classroom. Education can still happen and schools are prepped to do so.
kittensarecute · 30/10/2020 17:23

Please no. Can't do it again, my mental health will be screwed.

loulouljh · 30/10/2020 17:24

No we won't. Schools need to remain open. Parents need to work to pay for the NHS.

Dustysilkflowers · 30/10/2020 17:24

No more lockdowns. People are still in local lockdown months in with no sight of getting out!

Versace104 · 30/10/2020 17:24

It's schools and unis that caused a spike in numbers mainly. I've been to many pubs and restaurants since July and effective safety measures have been in place every single time.
It's not in Primark or John Lewis etc. That the virus is spreading.
Public transport is very well organised, i've never been sitting close to anybody and i've been taking transport throughout..
Ban large household gatherings but please,don't ruin small businesses.
Don't make it a crime for somebody to see their partner or Grandma.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 30/10/2020 17:27

They need to stop calling it lockdown for starters to stop the growing panic. Germany's 'lockdown' means they can't have more than 10 in a gathering,10! it's hardly lockdown.

I reckon we'll all be in tier 3 by Christmas. Schools will stay open but parties won't be allowed and pubs will stay closed is my prediction.

RaspberryCoulis · 30/10/2020 17:29

Honestly?

Past caring.

ThatDamnScientist · 30/10/2020 17:32

I think we will but it won't happen until a week or so before Christmas. I think they will move everywhere to tier 3 first.

Sb2012 · 30/10/2020 17:32

@TheMostHappy

Completely pointless doing it if schools are still open - will still be mixing with 30+ other households per day.
Agree 100% with this. I will be so annoyed if our government decide to to a full lockdown, but keep schools open. That would be the dumbest thing even for their standards
Rae36 · 30/10/2020 17:37

*Honestly?

Me too

Someonesayroadtrip · 30/10/2020 17:37

Well Boris said no and if history is anything to go by then that probably means yes.

I don't know though, I'm not sure what difference it makes other than hurting the economy. I was pro lockdown here in Wales as I wanted to do something to help Christmas have a chance but I'm not sure it will make much difference, Especially with children back next week and so many people seem to just be carrying in as normal.

Roo1000 · 30/10/2020 17:38

If we need to lockdown then schools should close too...it’s the only way we can get these figures back down. Most schools have had to close numerous bubbles because of transmission because, let’s face it, lots of households are mixing together through their child. Schools have spent a lot of money (and government have invested too) in making sure that children can learn effectively online (which in this day and age should be more than possible), so let teachers teach kids online for a few weeks, every day as if they were in class. It’s not forever, it’s for the here and now to get us through the worst of this pandemic.

MarshaBradyo · 30/10/2020 17:39

No as Europe hasn’t really done full lock downs.

MiniTheMinx · 30/10/2020 17:39

The BBC are reporting that SAGE have said we are already in a worse situation than they had predicted for this point.

Yes, I think we will end up with some sort of national lockdown within 2 weeks. I personally feel that preemptive measures should be taken, but I think this government will drag their heels waiting to see which way the wind blows. They are trying to assess public opinion, and in many ways you cannot blame them. Civil society needs to be held together, and they fear the breaking down of consensus and consent. They simply can not impose these measures without our consent. They don't have the resources to police it.

Chickenandrice · 30/10/2020 17:40

Agree with themosthappy pointless doing a lockdown with schools open. We need a full lockdown or nothing

celan · 30/10/2020 17:40

@WindChimeTinkle

Ffs. No more fucking lockdowns. The NHS needs a functioning economy to survive.
Agree. I want my remaining school-aged DC (sixth form) to be at school, as well.
celan · 30/10/2020 17:41

@kittensarecute

Please no. Can't do it again, my mental health will be screwed.
Mine, too. Flowers
MarshaBradyo · 30/10/2020 17:41

@Chickenandrice

Nothing? Crazy

We can limp on and stretch NHS and do tier 3 where needed. Let other areas do their tiers.

IdblowJonSnow · 30/10/2020 17:43

They should have done a full lockdown forc2 or 3 weeks incorporating half term.
Boris is going to have a lot of deaths on his hands.

Yohoheaveho · 30/10/2020 17:44

I dont think there will be another full lockdown

areyoubeingserviced · 30/10/2020 17:46

I am beginning to think that we will have a national lockdown. However, as others have said there is little point having a national lockdown if schools remain open,

Rabbitholebonkers · 30/10/2020 17:46

No I don’t think schools will shut. We will just limp on with the majority of the country being in tier 3. Whatever that means, as there’s no real compliance anymore. People will become more compliant as the death rate shoots back up again and that might stabilise things.

I mean that’s my two pence worth, other than that fuck knows.

Bikingbear · 30/10/2020 17:47

@StealthPolarBear

Yes I think we are. I think there will be an announcement a week on monday
What makes you think a week on Monday?

I do believe that another full lockdown is coming. I believe that it's the reason Scotland had the schools all go back early. So yes I think the schools, particularly high schools will close.

MarshaBradyo · 30/10/2020 17:47

The public doesn’t feel the same way as it did in March, out of tier 3 that is

Economic concerns are becoming more prevalent and shock tactics with numbers won’t work
