Are we heading for another national lockdown

Do you think we are going in the same direction as France and Germany? And do you think schools will stay open if we do?

Oh yeah, people who say ‘Locking down just postpones the inevitable’, if it was me who was going to die, I would want it put off for as long as possible, thank you very much.

Ridcully82 · 30/10/2020 18:12

@Yohoheaveho

People will become more compliant as the death rate shoots back up again and that might stabilise things I think so too
I sincerely hope you're right,but I'm starting to doubt it,as there feels like a growing number of people who won't care as long as their immediate circle doesn't get severally I'll.
MagicSummer · 30/10/2020 18:14

We need to do it - and close down schools and universities NOW - that is how it is spreading - from kids and young people to their parents and grandparents. Surely anyone can see this?

PopcornPugs · 30/10/2020 18:15

Another lockdown will make me severely ill. My mental health can’t take anymore isolation

studychick81 · 30/10/2020 18:15

No, I think we will have local lockdowns only and schools will remain open. Some areas have such low numbers it wouldn't make sense to have a national lockdown.

They need to keep some part of the economy going. I don't think schools will close as it makes it near impossible for parents to home school and work. The extension of the furlong system seems to back this up.

The rates are rising again but as I understand it the hospital admissions and deaths are very low in comparison to last time. It isn't the same as last time.

Loverofoldfilms · 30/10/2020 18:16

@TheMostHappy

Completely pointless doing it if schools are still open - will still be mixing with 30+ other households per day.
the whole year is in a bubble at my son's school (ca 70 families) and the teachers also teach other years.

Of course schools need to shut too, otherwise this will drag on forever and tank the economy completely PLUS you have lots of people with long covid.

Awful mismanagement by the government.

studychick81 · 30/10/2020 18:16

I too wish they would close universities though and either send home or have two weeks isolation and then send home.

pinkearedcow · 30/10/2020 18:17

@AngryPrincess

Yep and yes, for a bit, then, no when the govt (finally) cop on.
What do you mean Angry?
4cats2kids · 30/10/2020 18:17

It’s inevitable as the government are useless and so many people are too selfish and stupid to take reasonable precautions.

studychick81 · 30/10/2020 18:18

I think the economy will tank worse if they close the schools as parents cannot work from home and home school plus those private schools, nurseries and educational places will go under if they shut. That's not helping the economy

ktp100 · 30/10/2020 18:20

Yes and yes.

My husband and I both have damage from long covid (no NHS help, needed to seek help privately). We were so ill that we could only crawl at times.

Our little boy has trauma from this. He will need counselling (of course we have to pay ourselves as nothing on offer from NHS at moment)

Tricky though since husband lost job.

Oh, and couldn't attend my mother's funeral this month abroad due to Covid. She died unexpectedly and I am devastated.

A bit of lockdown to me seems the smallest price to pay if it saves just ONE life.

PopcornPugs · 30/10/2020 18:24

I amazed at people’s naivety when it comes to mental health. Another lockdown may save lives due to Covid but it’ll cost plenty through suicide, not to mention the missed cancer diagnosis, and other physical health issues that have been missed

TOADfan · 30/10/2020 18:25

Wales and Northern Ireland are essentially in lockdown apart from schools. I don't know about Wales but all bars and restaurants being closed so far two weeks in haven't changed the rates in Northern Ireland (some of our ICUs are full and the nightingale hospital is kicking into action).

It's needs to be full lockdown including schools or even nothing and keeping up with social distancing etc. Anything in the middle is just hurting the economy for no outcome.

Ilovecheese53 · 30/10/2020 18:27

@Loverofoldfilms sorry to hear this about your mother. It’s heartbreaking all round lockdown is claiming lives you just don’t realise. Domestic violence was on the rise and the police were extremely busy in lockdown.

Totally agree. At this stage secondary should be remote learning bar year 7 who should be on a rota. Primary should be with masks in communal areas and staff allowed to wear masks, vulnerable pupils and staff coordinating home learning and if possible, on a rota to ensure SD.
HarryBlackberry1 · 30/10/2020 18:28

There should either be a full lockdown with schools closed, or nothing at all closed, and we just crack on as best we can. I'm staggered that so many people on here actually don't care what happens to school staff, it's case of 'I'm alright Jack'. Many of us in education absolutely love our jobs, but are working without any social distancing at all. I'm a parent myself, and obviously do not want my dd to miss school, but nor do I want my colleagues to be cannon fodder in this pandemic. We are working without any PPE for goodness sake..

Oaktree55 · 30/10/2020 18:29

Yes of course we will there isn’t an alternative. Austria and Belgium have just locked down again. I don’t understand how people think we can avoid it. The numbers are far too high now to do anything with.

monkeytennis97 · 30/10/2020 18:29

Bloody Us4them have a lot to answer for.

Ilovecheese53 · 30/10/2020 18:30

@HarryBlackberry1 for most of us it’s not the missing school that’s the main issue. It’s work and money!!

Siepie · 30/10/2020 18:30

@Loverofoldfilms

And what if it causes people to lose their lives?

The poster who you were replying to just said it would make them severely mentally ill. Unlike your son, they may or may not be able to afford private therapy, and therapy doesn't fix everything. Do you not care if they or other people die from suicide? Is someone dying from suicide really a "small price to pay" to stop someone dying from covid?

I'm not against lockdown in general, but I can't believe how heartless people like you are, who have 0 awareness of the mental health impacts.

CoronaIsWatching · 30/10/2020 18:30

The NHS isn't close to being overwhelmed, not one patient in the Nightingale hospitals. We need to learn to live with the virus.

StealthPolarBear · 30/10/2020 18:31

To those who say they can't cope with the isolation of another lockdown (and I do really sympathise) - ar you in tier 1? In tiers 2 and 3 we can only meet outside which at the moment means in the rain, mostly. I will do it but only for a short time, not sitting down etc. Are you doing thay at the moment? I feel in tier 2 that we essentially can't see family

StealthPolarBear · 30/10/2020 18:31

My last post isn't addressed to those who worry for businesses.

Grobagsforever · 30/10/2020 18:31

@TheSeedsOfADream

Probably yes. About a month too late as usual. We've just had a curfew imposed, (Italy) and schools in my region are now closed until end Nov. We're expecting more restrictions soon. 68 cases in a town of 100,000.
@TheSeedsOfADream

I'm sorry your government are sacrificing children in this way
