Some of the best bars/pubs in Manchester don't serve food. They'll have to close and let's be honest, they won't be re-opening. I expect the owners will probably cut their losses.
@RockingMyFiftiesNot they didn’t. They fought against it and won.

I’m absolutely raging for my city right now. Taking it down 40 million from their original offer, just because they can. Manchester will not survive on £20 million. This is beyond devastating.
Can you link to that please as everything I have seen says Liverpool gyms shut but Lancashire open .

@crossstitchingnana

Andy Burnham brought this on Manchester
And not the nine GM Conservative MPs who supported him?
Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/10/2020 17:10

@Chailatteplease - you're wrong, they are all shut. People - and local authorities - are still trying to get them to be able to open.

Chailatteplease · 20/10/2020 17:31

Did Andy Burnham make Boris drop his support offer by £40 million then? Hmm

BJ is playing poker with people’s lives.

Yes this exactly.

I don't get why Manchester are demanding more than any other place in local lockdown can somebody please explain
Do you remember 80% furlough in March?

Why is it now 67% for businesses forced to close?

And the cleaners/taxi drivers/suppliers in the chain... what about them?

Agree, I could not believe Johnson was so spiteful as to offer £60m then reduce it to £22m. He is harming people in his own country FFS. What an absolutely dreadful thing to do.

Really? I don't know any pubs who don't serve food all day and I'm in a large city

I can think of one off the top of my head, a one room place that has nuts and crisps and alcohol.

Another couple just have a pile of cheese rolls behind the bar.

All the chains serve food, these places are independent.

Manchester has effectively been in tier 2 since the end of July so has had to deal with restrictions for longer than Merseyside and Lancashire. I believe that the levels of poverty are also higher.

There are plenty, mostly independent, often locals.

PracticingPerson · 21/10/2020 08:12

Is also about % of takings from drink vs food. If 70% of takings comes from customers not eating, they will struggle.

Why do people keep saying this

Most of Lancashire and half of West Yorkahire have also been under the same restrictions as GM and for the same length of time

There are other places in the north just as deprived, if not more so. Bradford for example, a larger city than Manchester (the city), has had consistently high cases since March and been under the same restrictions as GM and Blackburn (Lancashire) too.

Inspite of what Burnham says, GM is not an exceptional special case in the north
