Is anyone any the wiser?

I’m in Manchester, I’m not too bothered. Tier 3 isn’t that different from tier 2 anyway if Liverpool is anything to go by.

PetitFours · 20/10/2020 15:35

You'd be bothered if you had a business that'd been forced to close without adequate financial support.

Chailatteplease · 20/10/2020 15:50

What businesses are going to be forced to close? Pubs that don’t serve food? That’s all I’m aware of so far. Other leisure businesses won’t be forced to, as was originally thought.

Gyms.
CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 16:06

Pubs that don't serve food is quite a lot of jobs and businesses though!

Devlesko · 20/10/2020 16:08

I was in March, sort of got used to it now.
But what to do next.....?

TazMac · 20/10/2020 16:15

Are gyms and pools closing in Tier 3?

Ohthatsgreat · 20/10/2020 16:21

BBC saying 1800 and 140 wine bars could close. And that’s just hospitality.

But yeah no impact Hmm

I can’t find any word on whether gyms will close.

Andy Burnham is holding a press conference now. MEN is covering it.

Chailatteplease · 20/10/2020 16:23

Gyms didn’t close in Liverpool under tier 3, which is why I said it won’t be much different to tier 2.

All pubs local to me serve food, I was under the impression most do these days. Apologies if anyone here will have their business negatively affected. I have my own Covid related worries that aren’t financial related, so maybe I was a bit insensitive.

PetitFours · 20/10/2020 16:31

The government aren't offering the funding because they know that pretty soon everywhere is going to be under Tier 3 - a national lockdown, circuit break, fire break, whatever you want to call it - arrived at bit by bit, and they don't want a bespoke negotiated deal to become the standard for everyone.

TazMac · 20/10/2020 16:39

@PetitFours

Nail on head.

PracticingPerson · 20/10/2020 16:40

Another agreeing with @PetitFours

Government offering £8 per person. Really generous support Hmm

Yep. If it were just going to be a one off, they'd never have fucked around like this.

Gyms did. close in Liverpool?
Youandmeareluckytobeus · 20/10/2020 16:52

Really? I don't know any pubs who don't serve food all day and I'm in a large city. I can't see that it would make a great deal of difference if pubs in my city had to close unless they served food.

Also could close means nothing. That may be how many pubs and wine bars there are in the region. The BBC have no idea how many of those businesses will actually close. Just as I don't.

Chailatteplease · 20/10/2020 16:55

@RockingMyFiftiesNot they didn’t. They fought against it and won.

I’m absolutely raging for my city right now. Taking it down 40 million from their original offer, just because they can. Manchester will not survive on £20 million. This is beyond devastating.

Notcoolmum · 20/10/2020 16:55

Gyms did close in Liverpool. But not Lancashire. GM offered less per head than Liverpool and Lancashire. Why?!

Lots of pubs and bars don't offer a substantial meal. They aren't restaurants.

We have been in restrictions since July. Back to not meeting anyone in our gardens again. Can only meet another household in a public park. And yet schools remain open.

crossstitchingnana · 20/10/2020 16:56

Andy Burnham brought this on Manchester

veraismyspiritanimal · 20/10/2020 16:57

I don't get why Manchester are demanding more than any other place in local lockdown can somebody please explain

TazMac · 20/10/2020 16:57

This gets better, so tier 3 restrictions aren’t uniform, they vary depending on where you are geographically?

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/10/2020 16:59

@Chailatteplease - all gyms, leisure centres ARE closed in Liverpool.
Loads of pubs trying to hastily concoct a food offer but really there are loads of tiny independents - little bars, micropubs - no chance. Lots of the places that do serve food really struggled as soon as people could only eat out with their household, lots closing now.

Ohthatsgreat · 20/10/2020 17:00

Yes there’s loads in Manchester City centre. I could name 2 pubs and one wine bar on the street next to my office alone. They don’t serve food so will be closing, that’s if they haven’t shut their doors permanently already.

No income and some poxy support scheme means lots of businesses will fail. No one knows the exactly outcome, true but if people in the hospitality industry in Manchester are warning about that outcome why disregard it?

Not to mention the minimum wage employees across GM who can now look forward to 67% of their pay imposed by London. So much for the northern powerhouse etc etc.

CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 17:01

@crossstitchingnana

Andy Burnham brought this on Manchester
This is a ridiculous analysis. Johnson was going to do it whatever Burnham (and every single local MP and council) thought.

They aren’t? GM was offered 22m whereas Liverpool and Lancs got 45m.

All we can read into this is that more areas are going to be put in tier 3 and government doesn’t want to pay up to support businesses and people.

TazMac · 20/10/2020 17:03

Andy Burnham brought this on Manchester

FFS, it’s not just Burnham.
