How long are everyone’s test results taking?

We are about to go for a family coronavirus test this PM as I’ve developed a cough and sore throat... dreading a potentially long wait Sad

How long is everyone else waiting? Is anyone actually getting results within 48 hours anymore?

Thanks !

Never received

Benjispruce2 · 27/09/2020 19:41

If the test is negative, why do you need to keep isolating?

Benjispruce2 · 27/09/2020 19:43

That’s to @Tippexy

peanutbutterandfluff · 27/09/2020 19:56

Tested Saturday noon, no results yet.

Thisischocolate · 27/09/2020 20:05

@Benjispruce2

Look at the NHS website for test result info - if you have tested negative you can go bask to normal as long as you and your household meet the specific criteria stated

Benjispruce2 · 27/09/2020 20:08

Yes I know. @Tippexy said you have to continue to isolate.

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 27/09/2020 20:09

No one else has symptoms, she hasn’t been contacted via test and trace. I’ve had a text message with results (negative) confirming she can go back as long as she hasn’t had a temperature for 48 hours which she hasn’t. Surely the whole point of getting tested is to know whether it’s safe for you to attend school or work with what are minor cold symptoms?

Thisischocolate · 27/09/2020 20:10

@Benjispruce2

Misinformation is rife I’m afraid. People need to be checking official government and NHS websites for guidance rather than relying on people on this site.

Benjispruce2 · 27/09/2020 20:11

Exactly! That’s why I pointed it out.

GenericFemalePal · 27/09/2020 20:13

Home test last Saturday (in time for the 12.00 postal collection), got results mid morning Monday. I was surprised how quick it was.

Heatherjayne1972 · 27/09/2020 20:16

Two people I know of did the home test sent it back in the post and never got the results
One last week the other in August

NatalieH2220 · 27/09/2020 20:23

I got my results in 24 hours. Did the test 7pm Monday night at a drive through and got the results Tuesday evening.

lifesalongsong · 27/09/2020 20:24
@AvoidingRealHumans yes I see your point, but to be a bit clearer- we think all of us had Covid back in March when no tests were available. Mine was confirmed by paramedics when I developed pneumonia. I’ve not been 100% since but that’s another story. In March/April all family members had slightly different symptoms. Eventually my son went to A and E with his. That’s why I’m concerned this time around we may have it again... kids have colds and yesterday my sons temp was again raised, so I’m afraid I’m not taking any chances and want to get them tested as early as poss to get a reliable result.
It's extremely unlikely that one person would get it twice and for all of you to would surely be a world first. Afaik there is no such thing as a reliable test, as others have said it doesn't sound like your children qualify for tests

Frazzled2207 · 27/09/2020 20:26

son had a drive through test on monday, results came tuesday about 27 hours later

Feminist10101 · 27/09/2020 20:26

@vodkaredbullgirl

How many have you had?! Shock
Afibtomyboy · 27/09/2020 20:32

I presume @vodkaredbullgirl is in a job that requires weekly testing

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/09/2020 20:33

Ive lost count well over 10 I think. The care home still have loads of tests.

Yetiyoga · 27/09/2020 20:34

@Feminist10101 they work in a care home so have been having regular tests.

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/09/2020 20:35

@Afibtomyboy yes i work in a demetia unit and have to be tested weekly.

MummaGiles · 27/09/2020 20:35

DH did a test 7pm Thursday and got his results 3pm Saturday, so 44 hours.

Elderflowervioletrose · 27/09/2020 20:40

Sent home test back Thursday morning and received results yesterday evening.

NormaSnickers · 27/09/2020 20:54

8yr old DS was tested at a drive through site at 12.10 pm Tues, email with negative result came through at 12.02am Wed so just under 12 hrs - was very impressed (not to mention surprised) by that!

peanutbutterandfluff · 27/09/2020 22:16

Update. Test 12pm Saturday (drive through), just got results 9pm Sunday, so 33 hours. London.

ILovesPeanuts · 27/09/2020 22:26

I had a test a week ago at a drive through as was asked to by email at random. Negative result in 18 hours.
Tested again this Saturday afternoon as got symptoms but no result yet.
Does anyone know, might a result come through overnight? I'm rather desperate to be negative due to somewhere I need to

ILovesPeanuts · 27/09/2020 22:26

Oops - go tomorrow but obvs won't if not had a (neg) result
