Covid

How long are everyone’s test results taking?

We are about to go for a family coronavirus test this PM as I’ve developed a cough and sore throat... dreading a potentially long wait Sad

How long is everyone else waiting? Is anyone actually getting results within 48 hours anymore?

Thanks !

It seems it’s an automatic text and others on here have said throughout the night

Test done at a drive through centre at 2.30pm, result came through at 8am the next day!

PS also echoing everyone saying that only your family members with one of the three Covid symptoms making them eligible for a test, should get tested. If you get children with colds tested, you are stopping someone else’s child, or granny, with actual suspected Covid being tested, given the shortage of tests...

@Benjispruce2

If the test is negative, why do you need to keep isolating?

Look at the website - for example, if you’ve been told to self isolate then you should continue to do so even if you have a negative test.

Have been lurking on this thread. Tested 10am Saturday at a regional drive through, received results (negative) 1:30am Monday morning. 39.5hrs. Glad to have the result in time for the new week. However, sure I just heard daughter coughing from upstairs...could be short lived relief 🙄

I'm going for a test tomorrow morning for my DD.. she has asthma and her cough is so horrendous right now. I'm pretty sure its asthma and maybe allergies but I need to rule it out for her school. I feel awful, she had a test in August but I think it's a new cough now as it's so bad.. it's so hard to tell. I never know what the right thing is to do. I dont want to waste tests. But I want her school to feel comfortable shes there.. I think there is so much misinformation and different opinions. I really hope we have a quick turn around on the results. I want her to be back at school.

@Tippexy That applies if you've been exposed to someone with Covid, not if you're testing because you have symptoms.
In fact if you've been exposed to Covid and don't have symptoms you shouldn't get a test, just isolate. It's annoying but that's how it is.

@Clouds76 good news on the result. Sorry to hear about your daughter.

We are still waiting for my DS results (test performed at 8.30 on Saturday). So looks like no school for any of my children today.

I have 2 other children and I’m betting by the time we get results through another one will have started coughing....

Should I test a child who is full of cold with a sore throat ?

Hopefully this helps clear it up:

NHS COVID-19 Notification: X
Birth date - X

Your coronavirus test result is negative. You did not have the virus when the test was done.
You only need to self-isolate if:

  • you develop symptoms of coronavirus (you'll need a new test)
  • someone you live with tests positive
  • you've been traced as a contact of someone who tested positive

For advice on how long to self-isolate, go to //www.nhs.uk/coronavirus and read 'Self-isolation and treating symptoms'.
Otherwise, you may return to work if you've not had a high temperature for 48 hours and feel well. Talk to your employer first.
For a care home resident, follow the care homes guidance. If the resident still has symptoms, they may need a repeat test.
For a child or staff at school or nursery, tell the school or nursery.
Contact 111 if you need medical help.
In an emergency, dial 999

Test last Thursday morning and still waiting for the results. They also seem to have turned off the option to chase results on the phone as for the last 24 hours I just get a message saying they are busy and it hangs up on me. I am a little miffed

Still waiting. Symptoms Wednesday. Home test (no drive through tests available) arrived after postal collection time Thursday so test done Friday. It's annoying it is taking so long. My daughter has already missed six months of school. I was hoping she would be able to go back today.

Temperature is bang on 37, occasional cough. I can't make my mind up. What constitutes a coughing episode ?

37 isn’t a fever. Over 37.8 is.
My DD is coughing lots over an hour, not throat clearing but coughing without being able to stop. I still think it’s a cold but the constant coughing made us seek a test. I had a cold last week but not a persistent cough.

Coughing without being able to stop absolutely counts as a continuous cough. She needs a test.

@Coffeeandcrumpet

If you call 119 and go through the question about a test but rather than the option to chase results they will flag up that you haven't recieved your results.

It may be early morning brain fog but I’m not sure what you mean here. I went through the options and went to the testing option instead of the chase option. He woman I spoke to said they had no access to test results and couldn’t help. Is there some other option I am missing?
