Another National Lockdown

What are the chances ? Sky News are reporting the possibility and a second lockdown has become a reality in Israel.

How likely do you think it is ?

@PremierInn

I'm knackered. I've worked full pelt the last six months let's all swap and I'll stay home the next six
Me too!!
Cam77 · 13/09/2020 22:29

@jasjas1973
“given PPE contracts - not fulfilled - to his cronies and has not enforced the rules on his own advisors”
He’s a disgrace. I hope his kickbacks and book deals are worth it. Most useless POS to ever govern the country.

HesterShaw1 · 13/09/2020 22:30

Fuck it. Fuck it all.

MintyCedric · 13/09/2020 22:30

I don't think there will be another lockdown.

The economy rather than lives is clearly the government's priority now.

MadameBlobby · 13/09/2020 22:30

Absolutely ridiculous to even suggest it.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 13/09/2020 22:31

I'm in Bolton, I've heard pubs in neighbouring towns are asking for id and not letting people from Bolton in? (Sensible from the behaviour I saw in pubs before we were locked down again)

I think they'll close pubs and restaurants first. They need to keep schools and nursery open for the said of the economy.

safariboot · 13/09/2020 22:31

Wouldn't surprise me. We are clearly in the second wave. Indeed, I'd say everybody needs to be ready for the possibility of more severe restrictions than we faced in the first wave!

dangerrabbit · 13/09/2020 22:31

I could see them doing it again. Maybe announcing it the night before. They generally don't know what they're doing.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/09/2020 22:32

We can't afford another lockdown.
Money talks.
These basic facts of life keep my hope alive.

Letseatgrandma · 13/09/2020 22:32

Yes, I can see if happening again.

Also, if they bring back shielding-my school will struggle massively due to the numbers of vulnerable staff. That will be several teachers, the deputy head, all our 1:1 TAs, half the kitchen staff and most of the cleaning staff.

lunar1 · 13/09/2020 22:32
@lunar1, same. A lot of our pubs have stated on social media they won't let anyone in with a BL postcode and it's kicked off big time. Mind you, my local need to get their local regulars in order before banning people from neighbouring towns, no social distancing and utter yobbish behaviour.
It doesn't just feel like people don't want to stick to the rules. It's like they want to go out of their way to break them in as many ways as humanly possible.

HesterShaw1 · 13/09/2020 22:33

@safariboot

And how do you propose we fund this?
MadameBlobby · 13/09/2020 22:34

They are probably waving this in the public's face as a form of scare tactic to try to get people to stop socialising.

This

How can it be so badly managed we’d be in a lockdown only a couple of months after the last one ended? Will it be worth it at this point with hospitals practically empty and the NHS at no risk whatsoever of being overwhelmed?

PumpkinsandAutumnLeaves · 13/09/2020 22:35

What are the chances of it? I'd say zero. The government can't keep paying out, they need as many businesses as possible to remain open to keep the cash flowing and the economy ticking along. They need children in school and nursery so parents can work. Wouldn't take Sly News as gospel. More like gossip Hmm

Crystalknobs · 13/09/2020 22:35

It’s so hard to call really isn’t it ? Who knows what’s going to happen ? People are blaming pubs and restaurants but there are many other places ( where I work for instance) that are not taking this seriously. There is no social distancing, staff are shaking hands with all and sundry ( clients come from all over the uk )We have a member of staff who tested positive and the company have said it’s not a cause for concern , no-one has had to isolate . It makes me so cross that their attitude is so cavalier.

safariboot · 13/09/2020 22:37

Keep in mind I'm not saying what I think should happen, I'm saying what I think will happen.

Same as last time, government borrowing.

Based on the figures and reports I've seen, I'm confident we're not far away from hospitals filling up with covid patients again. Once that happens, I think the government will decide again that people dying is worse than the economic issues.

yolio · 13/09/2020 22:38

Lockdown very likely now since Johnson wants us all to go back on trains, buses, trams to work in our cities and keep the coffee shops and sandwich bars open. LOL.

What a total joke that idiot is.

The world is looking on and laughing out loud at the ineptitude of this administration.

user1471439240 · 13/09/2020 22:38

There is no way any Government would allow another 50,000 to die. In lieu of failure of the harshest new measures, it will be funded as easily as it was unheard of before.

Ecosse · 13/09/2020 22:38

The hospitals are empty @safariboot. Even in countries ahead of us like Spain, only 7% of COVID beds are occupied.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2020 22:39

I don’t even think rising death figures will have the same fear effect as last time.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 13/09/2020 22:39

On second thoughts, I don't even care. Whatever happens will happen. Bring it on Boris 🤷‍♀️

Roguesausage · 13/09/2020 22:40

I know several people who have been diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency since lockdown.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2020 22:40

I don’t think people are laughing. Many are in the same shit position - France, Spain, Israel

There no easy way out if this at this point

MadameBlobby · 13/09/2020 22:40

@Stinkyguineapig

*I honestly believe too many jobs were classed as ‘Key worker’ jobs last time.*

In what way? In that their children could go to school, or they could go to work...?

Oh Christ I can’t bear endless threads on here of people describing themselves as “key workers” again every 5 mins instead of saying they work in Aldi/are a nurse/a cleaner in a hospital. Feels like only 2 mins since that twattery ended
MadameBlobby · 13/09/2020 22:41

@MarshaBradyo

Me neither.
