Another National Lockdown

What are the chances ? Sky News are reporting the possibility and a second lockdown has become a reality in Israel.

How likely do you think it is ?

VinylDetective · 13/09/2020 21:56

Not happening. It’s going take decades to pay down the debt as it is.

Splendidseptember · 13/09/2020 21:57

I think it will be more specific.
Schools would be last to close.
Area by area.
If we see apocalypse pics and news from over run hospitals, morgues full... Then maybe.
. But I don't think we will get to that stage. Localised lock down, curfews, more ban on home mixing... Pubs close...

Timeforabiscuit · 13/09/2020 21:57

People won't pay attention until the deaths go back up, if that happens, I would expect a lockdown, but only if it's general population deaths rather than care home/prison/detention centre.

user1471439240 · 13/09/2020 22:00

The virus attacks the many, it is manifold. It doesn’t care if one person visited Durham

NothingIsWrong · 13/09/2020 22:00

I barely made it through the last one. Trying to work full time from home in a keyworker role with three kids around was very close to breaking me. I still feel partially broken and there is no help to fix me.

I hope not but if there is people will be less compliant this time round.

Keratinsmooth · 13/09/2020 22:03

In Israel everyone just started going back to work. No distancing, no spreading out timing of arrival etc. I hope that we know better

AndAllOurYesterdays · 13/09/2020 22:03

I also don't think we could do it again. I suspect lots of families with two working parents and young kids would say the same.

Keratinsmooth · 13/09/2020 22:03

That sounds wrong, I mean that I hope that on the UK we would do better

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 13/09/2020 22:04

Perhaps we will have a "world class" lockdown just like all the zillions spent on the "world class" trackless and disgrace! We obviously have a "world class" Covid outcomes record and a "world class" political leadership(s).

Don't tell me there will be a last second announcement on Christmas Eve planned etc or make it New Year Eve and then u turn repeatedly for extra effect and chaos.

However on a slightly more serious note if Brits can't follow rules (as common place globally with both adherence and actual enforcement) then what do you expect? If Covid does not kill you then probably stupidity might!

RingORingORoses · 13/09/2020 22:05

It takes time for the death rates to climb.....what’s an acceptable level before lockdown? 40 a day? 400? Because there will be a backlog by then of critical cases just waiting to die

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 13/09/2020 22:06

Also how would a lockdown work in the run up to Christmas? Surely the economy would just completley tank?

KitKatastrophe · 13/09/2020 22:06

It seems pointless. As soon as they lift lockdown cases will go up again. Its just kicking the can further down the road, meanwhile costing the government millions.

If we can just keep hospitalizations and deaths at a manageable level I.e. not overwhelming the hospitals, then a lockdown is not needed and would frankly be much worse in the long run.

Qasd · 13/09/2020 22:06

It depends what you mean by lockdown, we know more about how the virus spreads so there were things banned last timed that I think would never be banned again, I think it is unlikely non essential retail will close again for example. Israel’s new lockdown interesting doesn’t shut offices!.. strange because ours haven’t really opened! But I think another set of national restrictions eg on seeing other people outside your household is likely but not a lockdown the same as last time as some places which shut are very low risk in spreading the virus particularly with masks and social distancing.

Justaboy · 13/09/2020 22:07

Well if people could keep a distanne apart, wear a mask whilst out the presence of others in shops and the like, confined spaces worse excess lockdown may be avoided.

BUT its not going the stop or go away till an effective Vaccine is devloped, so we'll just have to managed it that bit better!

www.cdc.gov/flu/symptoms/flu-vs-covid19.htm

Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by infection with a new coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2) and flu is caused by infection with influenza viruses. Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone, and testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis. Flu and COVID-19 share many characteristics, but there are some key differences between the two.

Fololomolo · 13/09/2020 22:08

I am apprehensive at the thought of it all 😬 apprehensive at the thought of another lockdown but also at the thought of how bad things could get without one

PinkFondantFancy · 13/09/2020 22:08

Nope, no need. The original narrative was to flatten the curve. We've done that. NHS is empty, let along overwhelmed. Plus we can't afford it.

TheDragQueen · 13/09/2020 22:09

It’s not going to happen

thenightsky · 13/09/2020 22:10

@Nomorepies

How do people think we are going to fund another lockdown?! We cannot go on printing money, the economy is going to collapse. FFS I despair.
Yep. This.
annabel85 · 13/09/2020 22:10

The message is still 'get back to the office'

Newjez · 13/09/2020 22:10

I'm more worried about brexit ATM.

If hospitals start to fill, then maybe, but I think we are a long way from that yet.

Frazzled2207 · 13/09/2020 22:11

also, they have been so specific about there not being any more furlough money, or self employed support scheme money, that closing businesses again would be a complete no. But they could do a lot of other things.
Personally I think proper enforcement of the current rules is what they need to do next. I don't agree with the 6 person rule thing at all (well I do but think it should include children) but will abide by it. But am extremely bitter about the fact that I think many others will just ignore it and not face any consequences. I have not seen a single police officer in my area since this all started. And there have been plenty of parties round here (not in my house obviously).

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/09/2020 22:12

I suspect that talk of another lockdown is to make people breathe a sigh of relief when its only the pubs/restaurants etc that close.

thenightsky · 13/09/2020 22:12

@PinkFondantFancy

Nope, no need. The original narrative was to flatten the curve. We've done that. NHS is empty, let along overwhelmed. Plus we can't afford it.
Mental Health services are swamped. We have no chance of helping the massive backlog of referrals in the next 18 months.
