What are the chances ? Sky News are reporting the possibility and a second lockdown has become a reality in Israel.

How likely do you think it is ?

I think I’d rather die than live like this for much longer.

Margerine78 · 14/09/2020 18:09

@jasjas1973

Will be difficult for Johnson to tell us all to stop doing x y or z when he advocates breaking the law and supports people who get round lockdown for their wives birthday.

It's all become a bit of a joke now.

I don't know how to do emojis on here but imagine lots of admiring hands claps for this comment!
Ecosse · 14/09/2020 18:12

Utter fat-left nonsense @SheepandCow. Governments are reluctant to impose lockdowns because they are a huge infringement on civil liberties and have huge health and economic costs.

No one is trying to ‘kill the plebs’ or the vulnerable and it is totally disingenuous to suggest so.

The government shielded the vulnerable and país their wages for months ffs!

MarshaBradyo · 14/09/2020 18:12

@DavesSecondWife

My husband works for himself and we will be fucked if there is another lockdown, we have barely survived the first one. His business will go under and we will lose our house. We have already had a lockdown and the infection rates are rising now we are out of it, it's not going to go away we have to live with it not ruin peoples lives by shutting us all away.
This will be the case for so many people.

Imo we can only use socialisation type restrictions.

I hold my hands up. I didn't read your post properly earlier. My apologies.

ifonerememberstoturnonthelight · 14/09/2020 18:21

It won't make a difference to me, I still have to go into work anyway so I'll be going in, (work in heart transplant centre) during covid in March we had the most patients in ecmo in the country we are licensed for 5 patients and had 68 at one point nhs England had a field day sending us the bill! . Patients can't survive without it if they're that sick so my job is obviously critical

FelicisNox · 14/09/2020 18:23

I've no issue with it.

If everyone can't be trusted to behave then lockdown it is....

SheepandCow · 14/09/2020 18:24

@Ecosse
Yes lockdowns are very shit. Which is why they need to be effective. Otherwise, as people are discovering, the problem hasn't gone away. Nor will it go away by wishing it would. Doing nothing won't help. That's guaranteed economic disaster. It's not a right or left wing thing really. It's more about whether there's foresight or not. The government are under pressure from the more right wing of their party, but equally there's plenty of shortsighted short-termists on the other side of the political coin.

Right now is an exact repeat of February/March, and again May/June. Denial and insistence that we can't do anything about it. Leading to nothing getting better, in fact possibly getting worse, and no hope of starting to return to a proper normality.

The poor economy has no chance of recovery until we accept what we need to do.

Coronavirus: 18,000 test results published by mistake
The details of more than 18,000 people who tested positive for coronavirus were published online by mistake by Public Health Wales

So would I. It's not living.
Zoejj77 · 14/09/2020 18:45

It won’t be like before no one can financially afford for it to be

PablosHoney · 14/09/2020 19:08

No they won’t/couldn’t do that to the economy again. This is not Israel, I bet you wouldn’t be politely told to disperse or be given a fine there 😂

Thewordgame · 14/09/2020 19:09

No way, and if it happens there is no way will people stick to the rules, if however death rates start climbing rapidly I can see people being compliant, but if hospitals are empty the way they have been recently it won’t be happening.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 14/09/2020 19:09

I can't do it again, I just can't. Both me and DH working harder than we have ever worked before while trying to look after 3 small kids, including two under 3 years of age? I can't do that again.

ALongHardWinter · 14/09/2020 19:22

It will be extremely unpopular and I think a hell of a lot of people will ignore it. The economy has already gone down the plughole and countless people have lost their jobs due to the last lockdown (including 2 members of my immediate family). I was in the shielding catagory during lockdown (although I wasn't actually informed of this until 6 weeks in Confused). I got totally fed up with it last time and don't think I can go through it again. But if you dare raise these opinions, most people shoot you down in flames because you're being 'selfish'.

HeIenaDove · 14/09/2020 19:24

Yet if someone dared to stay off work with a cold pre Covid they were accused of swinging the lead.

SheepandCow · 14/09/2020 19:27

Selfish or not, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot. The virus won't go away in it's own. The economy has no hope until it's tackled.

I think most people would comply. If they were told everyone else wanted to, rather than being encouraged to think everyone didn't. Confidently stating people won't comply encourages others to think like that.

sunglassesonthetable · 14/09/2020 19:31

Yet if someone dared to stay off work with a cold pre Covid they were accused of swinging the lead.

Bit different now. what with a Pandemic and all.

SheepandCow · 14/09/2020 19:31

I also hope most people have the intelligence to notice that insisting we try to carry on as normal hasn't worked. Twice now. At the start of the year, and again when we opened up after not properly locking down in the first place so came out to too high rates of infection. Lessons of very recent history staring them in the face.

I suspect most people also might be more motivated to comply now it's becoming apparent that the risk isn't just to Other People. Long Covid means everyone is at risk.

No problem. These things happen.

Ecosse · 14/09/2020 19:45

‘Long covid’ doesn’t exist @SheepandCow. Approximately 1% of people do have after effects that vary in severity. But that is no different to any other virus. It is not a new thing.

Your point about strict lockdowns being effective is also nonsense. Spain had a strict lockdown and they now have more than 10,000 cases a day. All lockdown does is push things back.

The focus has to be on an effective track and trace system and shielding the vulnerable of things get bad again.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 14/09/2020 19:49

I must admit that I fundamentally disagree with hunting and shooting and consider it abhorrent but, if it is classed as a sport and is an organised event then it should be allowed to follow the same rules as other organised sports events.

Worriedmum999 · 14/09/2020 19:56

Without a lockdown society will grind to a halt anyway if it gets to the stage where 1000 people a day are dying again. People won’t go to the shops or to restaurants or send their children to school.

And it mystifies me why people think we won’t be there again in 6 weeks time. Cases are doubling every week, that is a fact. That’s 3.5k, 7k, 14k, 28k, 56k, over 100k of cases very quickly. The virus has not mutated to be less dangerous. It is currently mainly younger people who are affected (like all those skiers back in Feb) but it’s now working its way back to the elderly just like before. Deaths will be increasing dramatically soon. We were fooled by the lag between cases and deaths last time, I can’t believe we are going to be so stupid again.
