Quarantining : 2 weeks! Can they track you?

ComeOnBridgett · 15/08/2020 22:55

Just that.

If you're meant to be quarantining, they call you to ask if you're home. Can they track you?

Has anyone had these calls?

I’m on day 4 and no phone calls or checks so far. I know other people who came back from Spain or France this summer none of them got a call either.

sergeilavrov · 19/08/2020 15:19

@ListeningQuietly and @Juststopswimming Then I either have the most rebellious fellow expatriates, or the figures aren't being reported properly. For the sake of giving details, these are British Israelis getting into trouble. I'm going to assume they're not randomly lying about getting caught, as on our Whatsapp, they're sharing tips for evasion, so most won't get caught.

collapsedhairpin I have read the full thread. I'm just responding to the ridiculous notion that people on Q14 are being tracked by facial recognition. Complete nonsense.

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 19/08/2020 15:51

@cantdothisnow1 It really is!

shinynewapple2020 · 19/08/2020 16:08

I can see the difficulty for people , though, who took a holiday abroad to Spain or France when the government advice was safe to travel . Rules changed when they were abroad and now expected to quarantine on return . Not everyone is able to work from home and most employers won't pay for an additional 2 weeks off, if people can't afford to go for 2 weeks without pay it's not that easy is it?

Clearly you haven't RTFT but never mind.

Quarantining now- I'll let you guys know if they ring!!! 😁

cantdothisnow1 · 19/08/2020 16:16

collapsedhairpin what are you on about? I have read the full thread. Why are you insisting that I haven't. Odd?

shineywapple2020 It's not just the ability to work it is the fact that you are literally imprisoned in your home for 2 weeks, you can't even go out to walk the dog or to exercise which you could at the height of the pandemic. There is no justification on the grounds of public health, that I can see, for this.

Sod em, just go out for a walk. People have had a guts full of this shit from the government.

Evading WHAT ? Being CAUGHT by who ?
Are you really that gullible?

Because you totally missed my post where it was obvious I was joking.
cantdothisnow1 · 19/08/2020 16:46

collapsedhairpin

do you mean the bit about 'pigs might fly'?

I don't think you are as funny as you think your are. How odd to suggest facial recognition is used in the first place and then to claim you were joking.

cantdothisnow1 · 19/08/2020 16:47

philcornwall1 It's tempting!

It was obvious I wasn't being serious, yes. You missed it completely. There's no need for personal insults.
cantdothisnow1 · 19/08/2020 17:12

No it wasn't obvious at all.
Your first post

Yes they can and do track you. The UK has more CCTV cameras than most other countries, they circulate your photo and then the CCTV operators look for you, if they see you out then the police pay you a visit.

Your second post -

*And where do they get your photo from in the first place to hunt you down then?!

From your driving licence or passport as these are now stored electronically or from the CCTV cameras at the testing centres and hospitals.*

And somehow we were to know from this you were joking?

Finally you gave a clue that you may not have been being serious with some obscure comments about flying pigs but only after you told us that your daughters image has been captured on her driving licence.

I am currently subject to the Q14 and nothing about any of what you posted is remotely funny.

I saw an article today saying that Heathrow were trialling testing on arrival back into the country (for £150) with the view that if its negative you don't need to quarantine..... i thought the whole point of 14 days quarantine was because it can take that amount of time to show itself? Maybe I have misunderstood something 🤔

You haven't misunderstood.

Testing does not release you from quarantine.

I suspect the author of the article is the one who has misunderstood something

GinWithRosie · 19/08/2020 17:49

My next door neighbours got back from France on Saturday evening. They've already had a phone call. (They are quarantining correctly btw...I been shopping for them).

ListeningQuietly · 19/08/2020 17:50

No. Its one test on arrival, another 5 days later, if both negative, free to go - what other countries are doing

Aridane · 19/08/2020 18:01

We did Mobile’s too..:: on the ‘ways to contact you’ section I initially clicked on ‘text message only’ as I hate speaking to people i don’t know but was put off when I had to justify why.... so clicked by phone and text instead

Meh - just explain you are a mumsnet we and you never - and I repeat never - answer your phone to unknown numbers or answer the door without a prior written appointment Wink

Ahh that makes more sense you wouldn't pay £150 for a test if you still needed to quarantine for 14 days that would be madness Grin
collapsedhairpin · 19/08/2020 18:21

Then learn to laugh at things, it's sometimes the only way.

cantdothisnow1 · 19/08/2020 18:24

collapsedhairpin when something is funny I do laugh. Your insistence that you were funny does not make it so, nor was the insistence that people who did not see the humour had not read the full thread!
