Quarantining : 2 weeks! Can they track you?

180 replies

ComeOnBridgett · 15/08/2020 22:55

Just that.

If you're meant to be quarantining, they call you to ask if you're home. Can they track you?

Has anyone had these calls?

Surely they are relying on people being public spirited enough? Most of us have to work however ,and a quick call to Employer (who shouldnt be condoning working for them if you have been abroad to France /Spain etc should show up your whereabouts .I cannot understand this kind of devil may care attitude ,we are in the midst of a pandemic and people seem to be adopting this kind of "cant catch me "attitude! Please accept the consequences or stay at home , Only one year!

alreadytaken · 16/08/2020 09:23

they cant track you easily - but if anyone knows where you have been and chooses to report you the fines are quite large. Personally I wouldnt gamble on no-one reporting me.

Aridane · 16/08/2020 09:23

I know someone fined £3,500

Gosh - what are the odds of you knowing one of the 10 people in the UK issued with a fine!

We were in quarantine for two weeks. No one checked that we’d filled out the form at the airport- didn’t even speak to any immigration officials. This was in complete contrast to landing in Palma where they had paper health forms in the main hallway before you hit immigration and were asking everyone if you had completed it online already. Then after immigration there was a separate bit where you had to either hand in your paper form or show via your phone that you had completed it online. Plus random temperature checks. No quarantine at that end, of course, but a complete contrast to Edinburgh airport two weeks later.

No one checked up on us during our two weeks

Nixen · 16/08/2020 09:29

My parents got a call on day 13 of their 14 day quarantine to ask if they knew what symptoms to be looking for and that they should be quarantining (which they were)

Gosh what are the odds of ‘stumbling’ across this article

Aridane · 16/08/2020 09:40

A bit more than knowing 1 of the 10 people among the millions quarantining Wink

Aridane · 16/08/2020 09:40

(also I read the mews - so odds fairly low, especially as this has been well publicised Shock )

SexTrainGlue · 16/08/2020 09:44

Seeing as the 10 people fined was only 4 in the whole period up to 27/07, I suspect we'll be seeing this increase is one that continues

If there's no answer, then they'll call again. If still no answer, then perhaps they'll use different techniques (which might include cell site analysis on your phone - need a warrant, but that wouldn't take long tomarrange)

Igotmyholiday · 16/08/2020 09:47

Dh Only got a tc on mobile which he missed as upstairs, no attempt to contact on land-line. He phoned back next day ( they were closed when he tried to 1st call back) when they spoke no mention of why he didn't answer and they couldn't answer why they didn't try land-line, confirmed they had both numbers

FinnyStory · 16/08/2020 09:47

@PrivateD00r

It is about social responsibility, like wearing a seatbelt. You shouldn't need the threat of being checked on to make you 'do the right thing'. It is a bit frustrating for those of us who missed out on a holiday because we couldn't quarantine.
But you do get fines for not wearing a seatbelt.
PleasantVille · 16/08/2020 09:47

@HandsOffMyRights

I'd like to know if anybody has received a visit from the police, considering they did not come out to a burglarly in my street.
There was a case on the news just yesterday, I think the man involved was an MP and as other methods of contacting him had failed the police were involved.
awesomeaircraft · 16/08/2020 10:26

They can if they want to. It is down to each country civil liberties law, and how organised the state you live in is, and how much they are willing to finance that service.

In Israel for example they have been using their secret service to "track and trace". Source article here.

In the UK, unlikely I think.

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/08/2020 10:29

Just follow the bloody rules then you won’t have to ask all the hypothetical annoying questions!

Alex50 · 16/08/2020 10:37

In Hungary the police knock on your door 3 x a day, evening in middle of the night, you have to get out of bed with your ID, no excuses.

Wodden · 16/08/2020 10:38

@ComeOnBridgett

Ok. Well firstly... they call you 3 times and if you don't answer, they contact the police who may come round.

They don't do random checks. Who on earth told you that @Wodden

Ffs

Who told us that? The police officer who turned up at my door after I got back from Spain.
PhilCornwall1 · 16/08/2020 10:43

They are allowed to do random checks like just turning up at your door.

From reading the door answering threads on here, half the posters would be in the shit, as they never answer their doors.

awesomeaircraft · 16/08/2020 10:44

@PhilCornwall1 Grin Grin Grin

Polkasquare · 16/08/2020 10:46

Not sure why everyone was panicking about rushing back from France tbh.
They probably didn't want to break the law.

BunsyGirl · 16/08/2020 10:46

Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous employers who are insisting that their staff don’t quarantine and return to work or lose their jobs.

milveycrohn · 16/08/2020 10:54

I expect the majority of people will comply voluntarily.
There will be those who won't and hope not to get caught, but that is a risk they take.
I presume the rush to get back was for those parents with school age children, who do not want them to miss the start of the new term, after they have missed so much school.
In my case, as I am recently retired, the 2 weeks quarantine would not be a problem. It is the FCO advice not to take unnecessary trips, that invalidates insurance policies, that is the problem.

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/08/2020 11:08

@BunsyGirl

Then don’t go on holiday I guess.

BunsyGirl · 16/08/2020 11:15

@OverTheRainbow88 Your comment isn’t very helpful is it. I am talking about people who booked holidays to places that weren’t on the quarantine list and this changed whilst they were away (e.g. Spain, France).

Aridane · 16/08/2020 11:15

@PhilCornwall1 - indeed Wink

Delatron · 16/08/2020 11:19

And out of the 10 people fined. 9 were by border force so the poster on here must know the 1 person in the country fined at their house!

I do think there is a high level of compliance, 80% they think so that’s enough. I don’t think there are too many checks going on. My friend got a phone call and was ask see where they were and did they know they needed to stay there for 14 days. That was it.
