Quarantining : 2 weeks! Can they track you?

ComeOnBridgett · 15/08/2020 22:55

Just that.

If you're meant to be quarantining, they call you to ask if you're home. Can they track you?

Has anyone had these calls?

OP posts:
Aridane · 17/08/2020 18:05

I think the track and trace gives more opportunity for scanning and getting personal details about other people

PeacefulPlease · 17/08/2020 18:15

I have heard of one person that had someone knocking at their door to check they were at home but think that was after coming back from Italy at the beginning of lockdown

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 18:20

Test and trace is a bit of a joke?

Most places like restaurants they just have a sign up asking you to scan QR code for T and T.

You don't actually have to do it and they don't actually ask you to!

That's because its optional at the moment. I've been to places where they havent even asked. Those that do ask only ask one member of the party to do it. Plus a lot of people will either not give the right phone number, or if they do, not answer the call because they only answer calls from numbers they know.

Delatron · 17/08/2020 18:52

There was no quarantine in place at the beginning of lockdown for people coming back from Italy though? Or anywhere for that matter. We were in lockdown yes but not an enforced quarantine:

Quarantine has only just been introduced from end of June.

You had to self isolate if you had symptoms. Nobody knocked on any doors to check!!

cantdothisnow1 · 17/08/2020 20:17

I'm in Q14 now and I'm mightily miffed by it.

I have been in France in a motorhome and caught the tunnel back 6 hours after the cut off. From the cut off onwards I stayed in the motorhome and didn't mingle with anyone. If I had been transiting in France from an exempt country I would not have to Q14. The regulations are not clear on whether I should be exempt or not.

I have 2 autistic children who need fresh air and cannot be confined to the home. I'm not going to be stupid and go shopping or anything but I will use the 'emergency' rules to let them get their exercise outdoors.

The whole situation is ridiculous. I kept myself away from busy areas and would be more at risk in a pub and shopping centre in the UK than I ever was in France.

I think we'll look back at this as a massive breach of our right to freedom of movement.

cantdothisnow1 · 17/08/2020 20:20

Also I'd love to know the stats on how many who have had to quarentine actually have carried or caught the virus, but I guess it is not in the interests of the nanny state to look into that. Why are they not TESTING the people who they are imposing the Q14 on?

OverTheRainbow88 · 17/08/2020 20:43

After what happened in Spain And the short notice given, I don’t have any sympathy for people who made the decision to go to France on holiday.

cantdothisnow1 · 17/08/2020 21:23

OverTheRainbow88

gee thanks. I have an autistic 14 year old with suicidal tendancies and you have no sympathy.

I was keeping him safe by going somewhere more remote than any of the overcrowded Uk holiday destinations.

vera99 · 17/08/2020 21:38

What about essential eye tests though surely they are still allowed ?

pankake · 17/08/2020 23:00

no one has checked up on us or called. i gave one mobile number for all six of us because i didnt know my husbands number when i filled in the forms.

you can get medical help if you are in quarantine and go to pharmacy. you can also go out and get food you have no other means of getting it so not sure how they would fine you ..you could literally say you went out for bread and milk?
its a joke really

pontypridd · 18/08/2020 00:43

We all went on a peddle boat in Hyde Park a few weeks ago.

A young lad with a clip board was hurriedly scribbling down people's phone numbers. There were no names attached and the piece of paper was crammed full, so numbers were crashing into other numbers. He could easily have got ours and anyone else's wrong it was all so hurried.

This must have been for test and trace.

Aridane · 18/08/2020 02:03

Knock it off, @OverTheRainbow88

Flowers to @cantdothisnow1 and her son(s)

Aridane · 18/08/2020 04:07

@ComeOnBridgett
I’ve taken a quick look at the regulations. I think the ‘tracking’ is confined to spot checks by way of telephone call or in person visits- ie here is no mobile phone tracking (unlike Wuhan!).

If you breach, you have the option for pay a fixed penalty within 28 days and avoid conviction.

Failure to comply can lead to compulsion to comply - including as a last resort removing to a facility .

Note that most of the (few) convictions Relate to failing to complete the PLF rather than breach of quarantine.

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/08/2020 06:25

The problem is everyone thinks they are the exception, it was obvious after what happened in Spain other countries were about to follow suit. People knowing their own circumstances made the decision to go and now they need to face those consequences. The thought of another 2 weeks totally at home with my young active kids, missing the nursery we pay for and had to pay for while on holiday, made my OH and I decide to postpone our abroad holiday to next year.

Yes it’s super shit and I’m sorry your son has suicidal tendencies, that must be very hard, however, these are factors you knew though when you decided to go abroad. I know my sons hate staying inside and at home for long periods of time so made the decision based on that.

Aridane · 18/08/2020 06:34

Cut it out, @OverTheRainbow88 - poster was exposing her rationale for going Abroad not for seeking to break quarantine. Have some compassion

Indoctro · 18/08/2020 06:37

My husband returned hole from abroad at the start of this quarantine stuff, he works abroad. Not one single person asked him anything about where he had been etc. He travelled through multiple airports and wasn't questioned once even though airports were dead

He never heard anything at all when he got home either

So no , no one is monitoring it at all.

Mominatrix · 18/08/2020 06:37

I know several people who simply ignored the quarrantine. Nothing happened to them.

KatherineJaneway · 18/08/2020 06:55

@ComeOnBridgett

They can't fine more than £1,000 in England and £460 in Scotland.

They can fine someone £3200 if they provide incorrect information or change addresses and don't update.

Ineedaduvetday · 18/08/2020 07:00
@OverTheRainbow88 Your comment isn’t very helpful is it. I am talking about people who booked holidays to places that weren’t on the quarantine list and this changed whilst they were away (e.g. Spain, France).
But that's the risk they took holidaying in a pandemic Confused Not their employers fault they took a chance and things changed.

eurochick · 18/08/2020 07:07

@Dino90

I know someone fined £3,500. The police phoned them and asked if they were home on the Tuesday. They did the same on the Wednesday but this time asked him to come to the front door where they were parked. Busted
Really? I though the maximum fine was £1000. How did they manage that?
Aridane · 18/08/2020 07:11

(they didn’t)

yawnsvillex · 18/08/2020 07:18

DB and DM didn't get any phone calls, nobody turned up.

Equally didn't have to leave any details at the airport?! So how does it work?

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/08/2020 07:33

I went to the hospital during my quarantine period, under the “two week wait” scheme (it was more of a two day wait - I fully expected to get the appointment after the two week period). I’m very glad I did.

The BA check in staff asked to see the form I’d filled in on gov.uk when I checked in for my flight, but apart from that, nothing.

awesomeaircraft · 18/08/2020 11:06

@yawnsvillex People travelling home are supposed to fill in the gov quarantine form online 48 hours prior to travel and print out the form to show with their tickets on the way back or keep it electronically on their smartphone to show when asked.
