Quarantining : 2 weeks! Can they track you?

180 replies

ComeOnBridgett · 15/08/2020 22:55

Just that.

If you're meant to be quarantining, they call you to ask if you're home. Can they track you?

Has anyone had these calls?

@BunsyGirl

I get those in Spain... but, since then it’s their own fault. What happened in Spain was all over the media and clearly about to happen elsewhere yet people made the decision to risk it so should face the consequences.

Morfin · 16/08/2020 11:56
I know someone fined £3,500

Gosh - what are the odds of you knowing one of the 10 people in the UK issued with a fine!

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/just-10-fines-issued-to-people-breaching-coronavirus-travel-quarantine-rules/ar-BB17YruE
And that article said biggest fine was £1k

Aridane · 16/08/2020 12:15

@Delatron, @Morfin - indeed!

Delatron · 16/08/2020 12:38

It’s so annoying when people make stuff up on these threads. Like on the other thread where a poster claimed officials had come round to her friend’s house and installed CCTV cameras so she could be tracked through quarantine! As if! Good for a chuckle though.

anothernamereally · 16/08/2020 12:48

I was in Spain when the rules came in, just coming to the end of quarantine now, no one has checked or called, I've not been anywhere at all other than the garden

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/08/2020 12:58

@anothernamereally

Thank you

My insurance policy is still valid despite FCO advice.,

Ontopofthesunset · 16/08/2020 13:13

I don't need to quarantine as I returned from France the day before the restriction, but I think I would be risking going out for a soitary walk every day even if I had been required to - I wouldn't go to the shops or pubs or have people round or meet up with anyone outside my house, but I would go for a walk every day. To stay in isolation for two weeks when there's no likelihood of my being infectious is just unreasonable.

Firstly, in my case, I'm pretty confident I'm still immune, secondly I haven't been knowingly in contact with a case and was in a part of France with a low number of cases, thirdly why am I more a risk now than in the early stage of lockdown when cases were massively higher in my part of London and I was allowed out for a walk every day?

ListeningQuietly · 16/08/2020 13:17

Under the English rules you are allowed to go to the shop during quarantine
so its all rather a joke

notimagain · 16/08/2020 13:40

Under the English rules you are allowed to go to the shop during quarantine

.....in exceptional circumstances such as being unable to get food delivered (the lockdown rules were more permissive).

From UK Gov -

" You should not go shopping. If you require help buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, you should ask friends or relatives or order a delivery."

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk

exceptional circumstances
I feel an eye test coming on ....

awesomeaircraft · 16/08/2020 14:00

My main gripe with the quarantine is that it is stricter than lockdown and excludes completely the outdoor. Not even walking your dog. How has anyone ever transmitted CV19 that way?

Lemons1571 · 16/08/2020 14:06

There’s quite a big list of ‘exceptional’ circumstances where you can go out:

In England, you can only leave your accommodation in limited circumstances. These include where:

you need urgent medical assistance (or where your doctor has advised you to get medical assistance)
you need access to basic necessities like food and medicines, but only in exceptional circumstances such as where you cannot arrange for these to be delivered
you need to access critical public services such as social services and victim support services, but only in exceptional circumstances
you need to go to the funeral of a family member of someone you live with
you need to visit a dying or critically ill family member or someone you live with
you need to fulfil a legal obligation such as participate in legal proceedings
there’s an emergency

The final one in particular is so ambiguous - “there’s an emergency” could apply to all sorts of circumstances.

I know if we couldn’t get a delivery or click and collect, and there really are no slots in my area at the moment - we’d have to go out. Large family including teenagers - are the nhs responders really going to do £100+ worth of shopping in Asda for us?

It’s a moot point for us as we haven’t been anywhere, but the guidance is still very much open to interpretation.

Is that the "officials" from Pornhub installing the cameras? Hmm
Delatron · 16/08/2020 14:07

Yes we know how the virus spreads and it is not walking your dog outside. Or going for a solitary walk. I wonder if it’s so strict as they don’t expect people to do all of it or would people be more likely to comply if the rules actually made sense?

I.e don’t see friends and go to shops but you can exercise alone. Guess they couldn’t check up on you then.

ComeOnBridgett · 16/08/2020 15:09

@Dino90

I know someone fined £3,500. The police phoned them and asked if they were home on the Tuesday. They did the same on the Wednesday but this time asked him to come to the front door where they were parked. Busted
They can't fine more than £1,000 in England and £460 in Scotland.

what bullshit

My friend knows someone whose brother's cousin was supposed to be quaratining but his dog was desparate for a poo-poo and so he took him outside and the SAS shot him and the dog, luckily there was no fine on this occasion. Smile

You mean they didn't take money from them for the bullets after the execution? Poor show that! Smile
ProfessorPootle · 16/08/2020 19:28

I think they only have resources to check on 1 in every 5 people so lots won’t get a phone call or visit.

I've missed that one! I thought we'd seen an end to the truly batshit but obviously not!
TheGreatWave · 17/08/2020 10:01

There is a real opportunity here for scammers to take advantage, I'm not sure I'd want to be giving information over the phone about my whereabouts anymore then I would discuss my broadband speed with Sky when they rang me.

Frazzled2207 · 17/08/2020 10:12

They are relying on there being 80% compliance which there Probably would be. But massively unfair that 80% of people stay at home while up to 20% carry on regardless.

Similarly in GM where I am we are not supposed to go into each other’s houses but people are making exceptions for their own parents, childcare etc.

What is the point of any rules when there is virtually zero enforcement. My copper friend has confirmed there is almost no chance of the police turning up at your door unless you have hundreds over for a very noisy party and even then they won’t have time to check out all of them and they send people on their way rather than issue fines anyway.

I’ve not been abroad but am making my own risk assessments about pretty much everything these days and am definitely on the cautious side. Dominic Cummings did so after all.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 17/08/2020 10:47

@TheGreatWave - I don't think it would be much use to scammers as one is supposed to be at home.
If you aren't and believed you were being checked on you would probably lie and say you were at home anyway.
(Not 'you' personally of course)
