Quarantining : 2 weeks! Can they track you?

ComeOnBridgett · 15/08/2020 22:55

Just that.

If you're meant to be quarantining, they call you to ask if you're home. Can they track you?

Has anyone had these calls?

@awesomeaircraft I see. They obvs didn't do that then?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

janaus50s · 18/08/2020 12:22

In Victoria, Australia, the Defence Force have been called in to do random at home checks for all who tested positive. It’s unnerving the numbers who have not been at home.

ComeOnBridgett · 18/08/2020 13:59

Sorry to hear about your son @cantdothisnow1 Thanks

Thanks for all your helpful replies. I'm at home and have been since the start of quarantine! I don't see any reason to break it. It's quite nice having an excuse to say no to meet ups! 🤣

Info on fines in England

"In England, if you do not self-isolate, you can be fined £1,000. If you do not provide an accurate contact detail declaration – or do not update your contact detail form in the limited circumstances where you need to move from the accommodation where you’re self-isolating to another place to continue self-isolating – you can be fined up to £3,200"

Uhoh2020 · 18/08/2020 16:51

Do we know when the Spain restrictions are meant to be reviewed?

JustGettingStarted · 18/08/2020 18:30

I missed a phone call today from a land-line number based in Coleshill. I didn't hear my phone ring because I keep it on silent. I tried to call back but I got a recording saying it was an incorrect number. I wonder if it was them checking on me?

I appreciate that we should arrange delivery of food but some things are unexpected. For example, if my period comes on suddenly and I don't have tampons, I wouldn't be able to order any. I'd have to go get some (after stuffing a flannel in my pants to hold me for the trip.)

NotPennysBoat · 18/08/2020 18:56

Do people really only buy tampons when they're expecting their period? Don't have any left over from last month/stock up when you know you're due soon??

ShanghaiDiva · 18/08/2020 19:00

Dh did two weeks quarantine last month when he returned from China: no phone calls and no visits.
Quarantine in China was very different: two weeks in a room in a quarantine facility with no option to leave and temp checks twice per day.

Uhoh2020 · 18/08/2020 19:18

Even if you get a call how can they tell if you are at home or not when you answer?

cantdothisnow1 · 18/08/2020 19:27

Uhoh2020, they ask for all numbers including home one.

JustGettingStarted · 18/08/2020 19:34

It has happened that I've been out of or nearly out of tampons, yes. It's very irregular and I'm not always the best at preparing.

My point is, you can have to get something from a shop.

They did ask for all my phone numbers but some people only have a mobile phone.

Uhoh2020 · 18/08/2020 19:39

I dont have a landline though
CityDweller · 19/08/2020 07:33

We only gave mobile numbers on our forms. We have a landline, but don’t use it (just have it so we can get internet) and have no idea what the number is.

piefacedClique · 19/08/2020 08:19

We did Mobile’s too..:: on the ‘ways to contact you’ section I initially clicked on ‘text message only’ as I hate speaking to people i don’t know but was put off when I had to justify why.... so clicked by phone and text instead

JustGettingStarted · 19/08/2020 11:03

I figured out how to mute alerts whilst leaving the ringer on. That's a relief because my phone was pinging constantly with my messages from friends and emails etc.

spacemonkeyhat · 19/08/2020 11:44

The system relies on the fact that most people will try and stick to the quarantine - at least most of the time.
If Spain/Frances rates of infection were really that bad then we would be allowed to travel there.
I personally think the job have put in place the quarantine to discourage most people from going abroad and to keep the press/public feeling like the government are trying to keep the UK safe.

If a work colleague was known to have been abroad and not quarantined, they would be in trouble at work!
I think nosey neighbours are the ones policing the quarantine, not the police.

And selfish people like this is why voluntary quarantine will never work.
OverTheRainbow88 · 19/08/2020 12:23

Surely a friend could bring you a tax of tampons, well you’d hope they could.

JustGettingStarted · 19/08/2020 12:49

Morfin - I'm selfish because I had my phone on silent yesterday afternoon? 🙄

OvertheRainbow - I can honestly say that if I were to be in immediate need of tampons for some reason, there's nobody to bring me any. It's just an odd, random example I thought of off the top of my head where someone might conceivably need to go to a shop. (It did actually happen to me a couple of years ago.) It's allowed in the rules to do an emergency shop.

Delatron · 19/08/2020 13:20

You can order tampons on Amazon. Next day delivery. Or yes a friend.

But agree this isn’t being policed, no matter what crazy stories you hear. There have been 10 fines, 9 were issued by Border Force for incorrect forms. That tells you they are not going round to people’s houses. They are calling some people on their mobile but they are not tracing the call.

Most people quarantine correctly. 20% won’t. That’s annoying for those that do but that’s how it is. 80% is enough.

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/08/2020 13:30

@JustGettingStarted

Does that not alarm you that if you were in desperate need of something you don’t have one person that could help?

Delatron · 19/08/2020 13:42

You can order them on Amazon! There is no issue with food deliveries at the moment either. Everyone can get slots.

JustGettingStarted · 19/08/2020 13:48

Um, no. I can call 999 if I need medical assistance or something like that.

I do have friends, but none who live very close by.

If I needed something within a couple of hours I'd have to get it myself.

Juststopswimming · 19/08/2020 13:48

Not everyone can get slots - have you tried for every address in the entire country?!

Anyway, as has been expressed above, aside from the horrifically draconian nature of them, the rules allow for essential emergency food shopping if you cant get anyone else to do it for you; so anyone in that situation is not breaking any laws.

Morfin · 19/08/2020 13:50

No you are selfish because you think getting tampons warrants you breaking quarantine.
