Do you think there will be a second wave?

There’s so many conflicting forecasts and predictions out there on the whole second wave scenario, I just wondered what people’s own views were and if there is, when do you think it will be? I’ve got a holiday and a wedding booked for spring next year and I just feel so worried about everything.

Not a massive one. There will be rises for sure.

Tigger001 · 11/07/2020 13:08

The government doesn't hold enough respect or control from the public to be listened to even if they wanted to have a second lockdown due to a second wave.

Your holiday destination could refuse UK holiday makers but it's too far for people to know.

I don't know about a second wave but our figures of people transmitting it, are still ridiculous now.

Peterbishopssarcasticsmile · 11/07/2020 13:09

Yes I think there will be over winter/Christmas
I don't think this is going away anytime soon

Fedup21 · 11/07/2020 13:09

Yes, I think there will be.

FizzFan · 11/07/2020 13:10

Not as we’ve just seen but local outbreaks.

FizzFan · 11/07/2020 13:11

Ultimately people here don’t know. For everyone thinking there will be one there are others who say there won’t be. If it’s to be avoided it will take work from the government though which I think they are too lazy to put in place.

GreenTulips · 11/07/2020 13:14

People insist on traveling, refuse masks and social distancing, so of coarse they’ll be a second wave.

People spread the virus - it can’t spread on its own.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 11/07/2020 13:16

I and many others believe what we have just had was the 2nd wave as too many people have had identical symptoms since last autumn.

I think now it will be rises here and there.

AlexaShutUp · 11/07/2020 13:18

Yes, sadly. I think there will be significant second wave. I'm in the vulnerable group so am trying to look after myself as best I can in order to boost my immunity.

slipperywhensparticus · 11/07/2020 13:20

Maybe a bump up i don't think we will reach the heights again but local upsurges yes

Forgone90 · 11/07/2020 13:23

It won't get anything like as bad as it has. Local lockdown are the way forward... I expect a traffic light system for different areas....

Green- as we are now

Amber- masks compulsory in shops and no inside gatherings or sleep overs etc.

Red - lockdown Like Leicester is now.

Befor our last lockdown we were at around 30-50k new cases a day Whereas now we can be proactive once there are any increases in any areas..

I very much doubt we will go back above 1k cases a day now.

MadisonMontgomery · 11/07/2020 13:27

I don’t think we will get a massive wave, but I think there will be localised outbreaks for the foreseeable future.

frog22 · 11/07/2020 13:34

Yes I think there will be. From what I've read we're not going to be out of the woods until there is a vaccination.

StripeyBananas · 11/07/2020 14:04

How do you define "wave"?

StripeyBananas · 11/07/2020 14:04

I think there will be more outbreaks but no national "lockdown".

Thirdchild88 · 11/07/2020 14:06

As a PP said, depends what you mean by wave really.

Personally I don't think there will be but what do I (or any other poster on MN) know?

OddBoots · 11/07/2020 14:08

I think there will but how big it is will depend on how well people adapt to wearing face coverings and maintaining hand hygiene. Having windows open will be very important too so we might have to get used to wearing more layers indoors as the autumn comes.

SellFridges · 11/07/2020 14:13

No, but I think we will be living with this risk for at least another year or two. We know so much more now and can protect the more vulnerable in different ways.

PicsInRed · 11/07/2020 15:48

I think this was the 2nd wave but there will probably be a 3rd - especially as it's still working its way around the world (and back).

AlecTrevelyan006 · 11/07/2020 15:53

no second wave - possibly a ripple

wheresmymojo · 11/07/2020 15:54

I think there will be multiple ripples rather than one wave.

So localised rises which are then squashed. Nothing like March/April.

853690525d · 11/07/2020 15:55

Yes. Our t&t isn't good enough for local lockdowns to kick in effectively.

RubyViolet · 11/07/2020 15:55

Yes, as soon as the schools go back full time. If they go back. The social mixing and close contacts in the 30,000 plus establishments will be on a scale that we cannot control.
Makes me sad to type this but l can’t see anything other than more infections from September and on a massive scale.

Riv12345 · 11/07/2020 15:59

Hopefully this is the second wave

TheGreatWave · 11/07/2020 16:06

Have no idea, maybe the odd spike, but then we will also have the flu season. Even if cases did spike we have learnt a lot this time round so I don't think it would be as devastating.
