First English pubs to close in coronavirus scares days after lockdown eased
The Lighthouse Kitchen & Carvery in Burnham-on-Sea, The Fox & Hounds, in Batley, West Yorkshire, and The Village Home Pub in Alverstoke, Hampshire, have all announced a customers has tested positive for coronavirus

OP posts:
walksen · 07/07/2020 06:20

No doubt people who went to the pub with symptoms decided they would " do their own risk assessment"

After all socially distancing with 1m plus is safe right?

famousforwrongreason · 07/07/2020 06:23

If you had worked in the media or have any knowledge or experience whatsoever, the news is a 24 hour thing now.
We have the Internet, we have mobile phones. We have members of the public who can take photos on their phones and send them to papers.
Something could happen in your street this morning, by mid morning it's all over the internet and local / national reporters have picked it up. It takes less than five minutes to write a story, particularly if they are just copying and pasting what someone else has written.

famousforwrongreason · 07/07/2020 06:25

@Rebelwithallthecause

Pubs opened on Saturday The article was written Monday. No it’s not possible for them to have been tested of symptoms on the Sunday and for the papers to have the news on Monday Hmm
Plus, as well as the news working almost immediately, I have personally known test results to come back in 12 hours. So....
StealthPolarBear · 07/07/2020 06:27

Labyrinthloafer surely they're doing a deep clean every morning?

labyrinthloafer · 07/07/2020 06:29

@StealthPolarBear

I expect they are doing more after a confirmed case, I don't expect a deep clean every day tbh.

At work they are cleaning more, with particular attention to certain places, but a deep clean means everything.

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/07/2020 06:29

@StealthPolarBear

Labyrinthloafer surely they're doing a deep clean every morning?
That's what I would have hoped. How long are they supposed to shut for?
AnnaBanana333 · 07/07/2020 06:32

One person I know went to three pubs on Saturday with two different groups of people. But no, of course opening the pubs isn't going to increase numbers!

daisychain01 · 07/07/2020 06:35

@Rebelwithallthecause

That’s absolutely shocking in that case

And bloody yoga schools aren’t allowed to open FFS

Do you not realise that yoga involves deep breathing, strong inhalation and exhalation of breathe? That's an intrinsic part of the practice. If you practice yoga you should know that.

It would be completely inappropriate and irresponsible to reopen yoga classes. Our very sensible teacher is continuing to run classes via Zoom for at least the next 8 weeks.

Are you in denial?

labyrinthloafer · 07/07/2020 06:37

You know that thing people say on here 'ehen someone tells you who they are, believe them'? Boris said his hero was the mayor who opened the beach in Jaws.

He opened pubs in the same way.

Cases will rise because of it. what I don't know, he doesn't know and no one knows is whether they'll rise a little bit or it'll become a bigger problem.

We have a gambling PM.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:39

@daisychain01 bloody hell, so people can go to pubs and get drunk and not socially distance but a yoga class where there is plenty of space isn’t allowed

People are unhinged

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:39

The only reason is because pubs make more money for the tax man.
Do people not understand that is the only reason?!

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/07/2020 06:41

@labyrinthloafer
Did Johnson really say that?Shock

Here is the quote @ElizabethMainwaring

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:47

All the measures they put in place to reopen pubs - must be seated, one way system, table service only. That’s all great on the face of it.

But then people are still using the toilets as they normally would and that’s apparently ok.

labyrinthloafer · 07/07/2020 06:48

[quote Rebelwithallthecause]@daisychain01 bloody hell, so people can go to pubs and get drunk and not socially distance but a yoga class where there is plenty of space isn’t allowed

Yoga would be a really bad idea, much higher risk of transmission than in a pub.

I don't agree with pubs opening indoor spaces yet. Yoga a very bad idea. Teacher would be at high risk. As will school teachers of subjects like drama, music, PE.

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/07/2020 06:48

Thank you. Very 'interesting'.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:50

The fact is yoga would be a bad idea, but pubs is a worse idea.
That’s what im saying.

If pubs can open they why can’t everything else.

People aren’t sharing the loo at a yoga class in a wide open hall

I’ve never once been close to a yoga teacher in a class

I can get my hair cut, but I can’t get a pedicure done. It’s ridiculous rules like this that is making a mockery of it

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:51

I do not agree yoga is higher risk than a pub after seeing the photos of this weekend.

Unless people do yoga drunk in huddles hugging and kissing each other

EdithWeston · 07/07/2020 06:51

BBC version

(There's been a meme about Jaws/reopening beaches going round for ages)

Opening up places increases the opportunity for transmission. There was always going to be more cases, right from the off. Interesting to see how many people don't want to believe that its real, though

TheNemesisOfLame · 07/07/2020 06:51

I had a CV test last Monday evening (7pm) and had an email with the results the next morning by 7am.

So turnaround can be pretty speedy.

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/07/2020 06:52

@labyrinthloafer
I was trying not to mention schools!
Well, I suppose someone has to eventually.
Alongside moving to Wales I should have got a different job too.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:52
Confused
Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:54

We’ve been in and out of hospital and even the tests have taken time there

The testing service online is slow for sure - you go to the nhs page, request one, they send it through the post, you send it back, you wait to hear.

EnlightenedOwl · 07/07/2020 06:56

@SoloMummy

It's not fake news. www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-53315702

And to those saying its to be expected. Yes, only because they should never have opened yet!

Ooh let's all stay locked up shall we

Flowers it is hard not to think about schools, tbh.

I am sorry for the worry teachers have to face right now.
