Exactly, @daisychain01

I couldn't think of a less enjoyable thing to do than rush out last weekend the first opportunity the pubs opened, because I knew that even if I tried to stay safe, you could guarantee there would be a bunch of muppets who couldn't control themselves.

And imagine you're a member of staff, slagged to the high heavens for being furloughed in the first place, and now not only are you responsible for other people's drinking and behaviour, but also their transmission risk.
And we all know how well service staff are regarded in general don't we 🤨

It's going to be rough on pubs the next 6 months or so. Shutting down for weeks every time they get a Covid case will cripple them itself.

Not only that but all the measures are just going to put people off going, especially if cases rise again in general. The best days pubs will have is on good weather days if they have outside seating/beer gardens, but they've missed the best 3 months of good weather (April-June), July looks a bit of a wash out which leaves August and then the dark nights start to kick in with winter approaching.

Lot of judgemental arseholes on here.

Those people who were in pubs had it before so stop it that pubs spread it, there have been no cases of pubs spreading it yet so wind neck in.

It really wouldn’t surprise me if the people confirmed with Covid were tested on the Thursday or Friday and went out on Saturday anyway. I can easily believe that some can be that selfish.
I see utter selfishness on so many of the coronavirus threads and always by the same posters.

It's why i'll continue to stay in. People can't be trusted in this country. The selfishness is too ingrained.

Although - would they then bother to call the pub to tell them they had? I would have thought they wouldn't bother!

@PatriciaHolm

Probably to make themselves feel better and less guilty about being a complete twat.

FarTooSkinny · 08/07/2020 00:55

Why is DAYS in capital letters?

CountessFrog · 08/07/2020 01:03

Because people love PANIC and SENSATIONALISM

@Crosswithlifeatm "Excess deaths" are the extra deaths compared to the historical average for the same period in previous years

As pp have said, Germany has a much larger population than the UK and hence a larger annual number of deaths

So what matters on your charts are the sizes of the area of the red parts (COVID) and blue (Non-COVID)
which are much larger for the Uk than for Germany or most other European countries

btw, the excess "non-COVID" deaths dropped as COVID deaths dropped, so COVID is likely to have been a contributory factor to the blue area too.

The FInancial Times has calculated the excess deaths for the UK as 67,000 - a 49% increase over the historical average
and Germany's as about 9,000 - about 6% above the historical average

Their graphs make it easier to understand:

I have no problem understanding what excess deaths are,my curiosity was the very big difference in Germany's historical deaths being so high even allowing for population differences.
