Starting to hate society

I really didn't before. I don't trust my neighbours. I can't share my true thoughts with friends. The social control aspect of this is getting to me. Being expected to clap. Being shamed into compliance. Stay home, save lives... as though it could be that simple. I think I'm going mad. I don't know how to come back from it. I can't sleep. I want to move to the wilderness and never be part of it again. Help.

@LilacTree1

Dianne “ Yep and these cunts are probably the ones all hogging the supermarket delivery slots as well”

And that, right there, is judgement. If people book slots because they can’t face queues, I don’t blame them. I shop at Aldi, so no delivery for me

Yep I will judge people like that. healthy and able bodied low risk hogging online shopping slots when they are scarce ?. Its not OK so to me they ARE cunts imo. so I will make no apologies and judge to high heaven thanks . Go to the shop yourself like everyone else. lazy fucks

YANBU,

I live in the Lake District and the number of officious curtain twitchers is pissing me off. I drove a couple of miles to do a walk (completely allowed in the "RULES") and got nasty notes on my car. I just hate how everyone is getting uppity about what others are doing and some of the threads on here make me want to scream.

Devlesko · 05/05/2020 17:11

LilacTree

I'm beginning to feel this too, but I'll fight to the end, if i must.
It would be away from communities, in my dream, at least when not clapping for NHS.

DianneWhatcock · 05/05/2020 17:12

Oh, I couldn't for shame when there are so many people who really need those slots.
My dh has an illness that messes with his immunity, but he's clear now, so he can make it to the shops. he doesn't like it, nobody does, but you don't fraud what's for the genuinely in need.

Totally agree @Devlesko

I don't understand this comment. How can anyone "fraud" a supermarket delivery slot? Some supermarkets make them available to everyone and even Sainsbury's now have loads of click and collect slots.

LilacTree1 · 05/05/2020 18:43

I don't use supermarket deliveries so I don't know how it works

if the supermarkets only gave slots to the shielded I would have nothing to say

but they seem to give them to all?

this is the same attitude as "stay at home and don't go for exercise in case you are a carrier and someone inhales your air".

LilacTree1 · 05/05/2020 18:44

I do have a shielding relative - I mean one who has a letter.

he doesn't care about the shielding but hates the supermarket so gets deliveries. I'm certainly not aware of him having any trouble after the start. He's entitled to a free food box as well.

DianneWhatcock · 05/05/2020 18:51

Totally fine for a shielding person to get deliveries, for whatever reason. And I am Glad he isn't having any trouble getting one now

And if there are more slots available now, hopefully it means that these that can go out to shop are doing just that rather than hiding in their homes. DH just braves the supermarket every week its really not fun for him. but we would rather him do that than get an online slot when we don't need esp while we aren't working

LilacTree1 · 05/05/2020 18:56

but if there are enough slots for everyone, shielding or not, what's the problem? My understanding was that shielding gets priority and others take the slots after.

so if there for you to use and you want to use it - no ban on using it - why the moral outrage?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/05/2020 18:59

Jesus Christ, there are some really nasty, judgemental fuckers on MN.

Discobar · 05/05/2020 19:13

@LilacTree1- exactly. I've checked today, could get slots with Iceland or Ocado for tomorrow if I wanted them. @DianneWhatcock is just an idiot

Nice. It's so good that we are all supporting each other through this crisis and not inventing rules and then judging others who are daring to break those invented rules. Love and kisses from a cunty lazy fuck. xx

Hang on, are DianneWhatcock and Devlesko the same person? Both have DH's who go to the shop even though they don’t like it/don’t find it fun. Both don't want to "take" online delivery slots?

Maybe he cabin fever is getting to me.

catinasplat · 05/05/2020 19:30

the cabin fever.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/05/2020 19:42

I have Ocado deliveries. I don't 'hog' deliveries, I have one a fortnight which I share if anyone else wants anything. As far as I remember from the email from Ocado the first slots are reserved for vulnerable customers and then they go to Smart Pass holders. Ocado took the decision not to take on any more customers which is probably why a lot of people can't get slots.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/05/2020 19:45

The shops prioritise the vulnerable and give them the slots first so no need to judge / shame people. We get lots of emails about it for DH who is in that group but often don't use them. I think they then offer them to the others. For example you have to log on at a certain time to Iceland to get one. Don't see why people need to be so unpleasant.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/05/2020 19:46

Also, it's not all about Covid, some people don't / can't drive, have MH conditions, live in high up flats so delivery can be helpful for them as well.

LilacTree1 · 05/05/2020 19:59

one of the things that's pissed me off about society now is how many people are judgey that some others get deliveries

It's the same category as the neighbour who told me - early on - that my exercise session had been 1 hour 5 mins and another neighbour who reported some children playing football in the park. He called 101 and they appeared in minutes apparently.

I have previously done shopping for an elderly neighbour and one with cancer so I imagine if I'd been a regular delivery person, I'd have just added their shopping to mine.

I don't know if this has brought out the worst in people or just they have just shown their true colours.

my mental health is poor so if I could meet the price criteria I might have tried for a delivery myself - though it looks as though no one is taking new customers.

malificent7 · 05/05/2020 20:04

I get you op...

LilacTree1 · 05/05/2020 21:15

Assuming y’all have seen the news

I don’t believe in god

But here’s a favourite scene from a film

DianneWhatcock · 05/05/2020 21:50

Wow everyone calm the fuck down

If there's a decent amount of delivery slots available now, then great! knock yourselves out, get your food delivered shielding or no. jeez 🙄

I didn't know this as I haven't even tried but I do know that at the height of the coronashit no one could get online deliveries for quite some time 🤷‍♀️

LilacTree1 · 05/05/2020 21:54

Dionne you could calm down, dear. You’ve shown yourself up, that’s it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

catinasplat · 05/05/2020 22:57

DianneWhatcock so you called people cunts without knowing what you were talking about? Perhaps an apology should be forthcoming Hmm?

Topseyt · 06/05/2020 03:14

I agree that I don't like society very much at the moment, and a few of the responses on this thread remind me why.

People are not cunts for wanting home delivery FFS.

I never pay much attention to our local social media pages. I hate that we have become a society where snitching on neighbours, counting how many times they go out and how long for seems to have become something of a national pastime.

I refuse to call the police on people sitting on park benches eating, or because children are kicking a ball around in a park

I sat on a deserted bench myself yesterday and ate a packet of crisps. I also happened to open a gate to go along a public footpaths. I was totally on my own. I am sure there are some who would have me hung, drawn and quartered for that.

bettybeans · 06/05/2020 03:24

It has been weird for sure. The lockdown experience brings out both the best and worst in people. For every 30 people I know who have been rigorous about following the rules I maybe know 1 that hasn't. That's a decent ratio. For every 1 person I know acting like a selfish dick there's 10 doing really generous and kind things to help others and make lockdown less crap. People are mostly really good eggs, doing their best.

It's hard not to be judgemental when you feel like your life has changed immeasurably and you're suffering for it when it looks like others might not give a damn or aren't pulling their weight. We've never had to live like this and sense of community isn't really as big a thing as it maybe used to be. I dunno. It's complex.
