Would you send your kids to school in June / July

If there is already a thread on this I will ask for it to be deleted.

Hypothetically if the government say schools can open in June / July and you can send them if you wish or you could wait until September would you send them?

Not taking into account any additional needs other siblings may have or your mental health or needing to work etc.

Yes I would

birdlady12 · 21/04/2020 11:56

We are being told in France that the kids will start going back from the 11th May.

AHintOfStyle · 21/04/2020 11:56

Well Scottish schools finish 26/6 anyway

Lovemusic33 · 21/04/2020 11:56

Yes

Bathbedandbeyond · 21/04/2020 11:57

Yes. There’s no vaccine, it’s not guaranteed there will be one, we can’t keep them off school indefinitely.

ANoiseAnnoys · 21/04/2020 11:57

Yes, I would.

Wrigleys123 · 21/04/2020 12:00

Yes definitely, @birdlady12 is that more or less confirmed in France?

birdlady12 · 21/04/2020 12:02

Yes it been confirmed today. It will be staggered and maybe part time to start with. Its down to the individual schools. They are saying probably no buses and we will need to provide the DCs lunches.

APurpleSquirrel · 21/04/2020 12:02

Yes - DD wants to go back & we have no underlying health reasons at home. It would be great for her to finish her reception year properly.

Chocolateconcretepinkcustard · 21/04/2020 12:04

Imo they need to get them back ASAP.

Maybe part time, smaller groups, packed lunches and staggered playtimes kept in small groups.

Anyone vulnerable or shielding can stay home.

DBML · 21/04/2020 12:05

I’m a teacher and I would love to go back from June 1st.

I really hope by then we’d have seen a big drop in daily deaths and new cases of coronavirus. I’d like to think it was ‘safe enough’ to go back. Though, I accept that the risk is not going to be 100% eliminated.

I think realistically there will be a phased return for students. Not all will be allowed back at once. Vulnerable (not medically vulnerable) and SEN May be amongst the first to return.

I am not in favour of working through the summer holidays to “make back time”.
I look forward to hopefully taking my own child on a vacation of sorts (maybe not our booked one). I hope day trips and weekends away might be viable and we can spend some relaxing quality time together, that we cannot do now.

As far as learning is concerned, I teach mainly ks4 and ks5 and I’m not worried about being able to catch up from September. I know that we’ll put on lots of lunchtime and after school clubs to get children up to speed and they are pretty resilient, so in most cases they’ll be fine.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 21/04/2020 12:05

Not school but childcare and yes I would send her back.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 21/04/2020 12:05

Our schools finish up on the 26th June, so...

BakewellGin1 · 21/04/2020 12:06

Yes as firstly I cannot work if DS does not return to school and despite many people appearing to be able to decide against returning to work I cannot find this.

Also DS would love to go back and transition from primary to secondary rather then have a 6 month break then straight to secondary.

A vaccine will not be available in the near future I don't imagine so I presume it's a case of trying to manage risk.

Gingercakeandtea · 21/04/2020 12:06

No.

SpudsAreLife84 · 21/04/2020 12:08

Mine are still in school now so yes Grin

duffeldaisy · 21/04/2020 12:11

No.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 21/04/2020 12:16

It seems too soon to me.
I think I'd rather wait untill the new school year.

Pinkflipflop85 · 21/04/2020 12:16

Yes.

Inconnu · 21/04/2020 12:17

Yes

superking · 21/04/2020 12:22

Yes I would. The risk to primary aged children seems to be almost non-existent, and we don't have anyone in our household who is high risk. Once the wider risk on a societal level is considered to be low enough to allow schools to reopen I will happily send my children in.

WanderingMilly · 21/04/2020 12:32

This is far too soon and we risk a second wave. But no-one listens to me... I wouldn't be sending my children back before September myself, but it's not relevant as mine are all grown up.
I know there are people struggling to work at home with children around, and those who can't home school but truly, if anyone in your family ended up dying, alone, in hospital on a ventilator, you would prefer the having-children-at-home-for-longer option....

RigaBalsam · 21/04/2020 12:40

Yes it been confirmed today. It will be staggered and maybe part time to start with. Its down to the individual schools. They are saying probably no buses and we will need to provide the DCs lunches.

Do you have a link please?

@WanderingMillie
I agree with you. I’m anxious about how things will unfold, and the daily “can they go back early?” posts are so confusing and stressful at a time when there are still hundreds of people dying each day, with hundreds more hospitalised.

I’m still seeing how things go about September, and if it’s earlier, or things still look unsafe then, then will have to consider pulling mine out until things look safer. Which could mean losing the school places, would mean being unable to work v much in the meantime while home schooling, and which would then mean possibly moving. But if it’s a question of health/life or education then I don’t want to risk it.
