Would you send your kids to school in June / July

If there is already a thread on this I will ask for it to be deleted.

Hypothetically if the government say schools can open in June / July and you can send them if you wish or you could wait until September would you send them?

Not taking into account any additional needs other siblings may have or your mental health or needing to work etc.

Yes i would.

LilaGrace · 21/04/2020 15:20

Anyone who wants to stay locked up till 2022 can do so. We can’t just halt indefinitely society, education and the economy despite what some people think.

I agree with this. I'd definitely send mine back in June.

PorpentiaScamander · 21/04/2020 15:28

I suspect I wouldn't have a choice due to EWO involvement which was most likely just finishing when schools closed.
But if holidays are up and running then we have a holiday booked and paid for so would want to be able to take that still.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 21/04/2020 15:31

@Appuskidu - that is an excellent selection of links going over the same topic

louise5754 · 21/04/2020 15:47

@notacooldad nearly 8 and 10. If jeep them until all pupils were back but I don't work and I have anxiety issues so I'd probably be doing it for selfish reasons.

No, I wouldn't, and perhaps not even in August when our schools would usually return. I'm considering home education.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2020 16:14

OP have you asked for your thread to be taken down yet as promised? appu's post has confirmed multiple people have already started threads almost exactly the same.

HandfulOfFlowers · 21/04/2020 16:21

Yes, mine are going back the second they open the gates. We are a low risk household and we can't go on in these conditions indefinitely.

coconuttelegraph · 21/04/2020 16:26

If there is already a thread on this I will ask for it to be deleted

There have been many theads on this topic (you didn't think no one else had asked did you?) but sadly asking the same questions multiple times about school reopening isn't grounds for deletion

@FrippEnos

Titsywoo · 21/04/2020 16:29

Yes - I'd send them back tomorrow if I could.

maddy68 · 21/04/2020 16:30

Provided they could prove to me that social distancing and adequate hand washing after each lesson was provided. I wouldn't object

PrimalLass · 21/04/2020 17:02

Well Scottish schools finish 26/6 anyway

3 July in Fife.

And yes I would.

PrimalLass · 21/04/2020 17:05

Who cares if there are multiple threads on it.

FrippEnos · 21/04/2020 17:11

@birdlady12

thank you

So a fully phased return staring with some elementary schools and some rural schools
Then a week later some secondary school pupils and some college and vocational
then all in from the next week.

So not all school and not all pupils on the 11th.

and not that far off what some teachers on the boards have been saying about how it could work.

Imapotato · 21/04/2020 17:27

I would. I work in a hospital, so not self isolation in that respect.

I would be nervous of a second wave due to reopening too soon, but if they are open and delivering normal lessons then the DC will go. Dd1 is y10 and I’d rather she didn’t miss any more than she has to.

Springhere · 21/04/2020 17:28

I wouldn't send them back unless mortality rates were much reduced and widespread testing was available. I couldn't support a premature reopening of schools that could lead to many avoidable deaths.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2020 17:30

And delivering Normal lessons...Is that a deal breaker?

Imapotato · 21/04/2020 17:38

Is that a deal breaker?

Well yes, I could technically send them in now as I’m a key worker. But it’s not worth the risk for them to sit on their chrome books and do what they can be doing at home.

If they were going back to their proper lessons and continuing their education, then the benefit to risk balance is different.

By normal lessons I don’t mean necessarily exactly as before. They could do part time or only certain year groups. I’m not so fussed about dd2 going back, she’s y7 and there’s plenty of time for her to catch up. But dd1 is y10. She’ll only have two terms before GCSEs if they don’t go back until September. I know everyone will be in the same boat, but if those kids can get in some proper time with their teachers before the summer, then obviously depending on figures at the time, it may well be worth the risk.

BriefDisaster · 21/04/2020 18:07

We are in Scotland, in an ideal world the kids woukd go back for maybe the last 2 weeks of term so mid june which would be the 12 week point from when all of this started.

This would allow the children to do their handover to the next year as they usually do, meet their new teacher etc. plus see their friends before the summer holidays.

However this would be assuming that numbers were falling etc. at that point.

Honestly though I don't think teaching unions will want schools back before August.

I would much prefer they allow us to visit family first. My parents are staying at home as are we, Im hoping by the end of next month the kids can visit them on the odd day.

FrippEnos · 21/04/2020 18:13

BriefDisaster

Honestly though I don't think teaching unions will want schools back before August.

They haven't said this at all. they have said when it is safe to do so led by science.

They have also ask that the irresponsible speculation around schools opening is stopped.

frasersmummy · 21/04/2020 18:16

John swinney announced today Scottish schools will not return until at least August!!!

Wetfloortiles · 21/04/2020 18:17

Fuck yes lol

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2020 18:18

potato , I really am not convinced we will see normal as you describe for quite some time, sadly. I actually think what I am setting form home is more helpful and thorough (and checked) than the piecemeal part time stuff that might ensue if and when we try to return.

Geraniumblue · 21/04/2020 18:23

Yes. If there is tracking and tracing in place. Maybe a staggered week too.
