Thread for continuing long-term Coronavirus support

OP posts:
pinkoneblueone · 21/04/2020 03:02

Thank you for starting a new thread wanted to Pop in with good news day 44 I felt like I turned a corner. I have managed to get more sleep with the occasional help of Kalms night and I think it has aided to recovery along with lots of water and lots of fruit and veg. I feel a lot better than I did. I am still more breathless than I normally would be, my heart rate is dropping but still higher than normal during activities and I tire easily but I am getting there I feel so much better. DH is still suffering chest pain at day 42 but I am sure he will be not far behind me.

Think this has been shared before, but worth sharing again as it is being updated all the time. Have been in touch with Hannah who has made the site and she is pulling lots of experiences together to try and help people through their often very long and confusing recovery x

Hi all,

I also wanted to offer some positive news as I know how depressing and anxiety inducing this illness can be.

Day 42 here and although I have a bad case of thrush due to antibiotics I am otherwise feeling ok.

Yesterday I rested a bit more (did jobs in the house and went for a short walk, homeschooled in the morning). I was fine all day. I didn’t have any chest issues and my energy was generally not too bad. I could have done a lot more but I stopped myself.

Last night (other than the annoying thrush!) I thought ‘I actually feel normal’. I didn’t have a sleep during the day and I managed 1.5hours of work as well. I was fine sleeping on my back again.

I’m not over the post viral stuff I know that, but I do have hope now. If I take it easy for a few weeks I hope my body will repair.

Good luck all.

WorriesomeDad · 21/04/2020 07:42

Nice one @longshot. Really hope I’m in your shoes soon. 2hrs sleep and full-on relapse with all the bells and whistles for me today. Day 35 from onset of proper symptoms. Hope this is rock bottom because I’m not sure how much more I can take. Scared. Did anyone else have this?

Moodgie · 21/04/2020 07:49

Not a great night. Sleeping on my tummy used to help, but now feels like pressing the tummy restricts my breathing and so couldn’t sleep and didn’t feel good at all. Felt tight even without lying down. Runny tummy again this morning. Can anyone relate?

baroqueandblue · 21/04/2020 08:04

Day 36 and after waking up in pain at 4am I was triaged by 111 who then sent a taxi to take me to A&E. Shortness of breath has been worrying again but mostly it's the lung/back/rib pain, fatigue (even after sleeping), sore eyes and spacey feeling. Having managed on my own at home for 5 weeks I just couldn't hold out any longer and need input and support. Got quite tearful on the phone when the nurse said she thought I should be brought in.

Still sitting waiting to see a doctor, there has been only one here since I arrived but more clock on at 8, so any minute now. I get the feeling they're not particularly worried about my sats.

Thanks for starting the thread @WorriesomeDad and I'm sorry you've hit another concerning low point. Will update when I can.

Feelpoorly · 21/04/2020 08:05

Bad night here too. Chest cold and prickly. I am beyond exhausted, frightened and fed up.

Dorual · 21/04/2020 08:06

Day 21 and woke up with itchy bronchial tube area? Actually need to scratch my chest above those areas. Going to put a hot water bottle on. I had dull chest pain im the night which caused insomnia and the subsequent Googling. Which is where I saw all the bad news and nothing hopeful.

godhelpusall · 21/04/2020 08:07

@worrisomedad that sounds awful. Why only two hours sleep? I definitely think less sleep leads to worse symptoms.

Tangledyarn · 21/04/2020 08:17

@pinkoneblueone @longshot Thanks for updating with some positive progress. Really glad that things are moving forward for you both, just remember not to overdo it!
@worriesomedad I definitely had my last really bad dip around that a week ago (which is about where you are at) and have definitely moved forward since then although am struggling quite a but this morning but have had hardly any sleep and probably did too much yesterday so maybe not surprising.
@baroqueandblue Hope you get seen soon lovely and they can reassure you if not do something offer something more practical Flowers @Feelpoorly Sorry you had a bad night, it's so tough isn't it. I hope you can do some helpful dozing this morning @dorual No googling!! I know it's hard but nothing good ever comes from it. Take hope from other people who are a couple of weeks ahead of you and getting back albeit slowly to normal life
Flowers for everyone Xx

longshot · 21/04/2020 08:17

@baroqueandblue I just wanted to say hi. I was like that last week, days 29-37 ish. It was hell. I didn’t go in as it was Easter weekend and luckily I have a friend who is a GP who literally called me each day and was there for reassurance (i would have if not). I am loads better this week. That pain in the ribs and back is not only debilitating it’s down right scary. I do hope you’re given the all clear. Mine was put down to inflammation and now on day 42 it seems to have gone down a lot. I have taken it really really easy and taken paracetamol and codeine when I needed to.

I really hope you’re ok and the Dr sees you soon.

Tangledyarn · 21/04/2020 08:20

@Moodgie yeah sometimes lying on my front helps, sometimes my chest is just very tight and heavy whatever I do. I've had mild diarrhoea on and off since about day 12..not every day and not bad but just feels like my systems are all still very out of whack in all the ways Flowers

Dorual · 21/04/2020 08:22

@Tangledyarn I know. I'm usually strong enough not to Google. But it beat me last night. I was stupidly looking for good news, but everything i came across made me terrified.

Can people please share any good news they come across re. progress in defeating this awful illness? Good news research etc.

@WorriesomeDad what are your worst symptoms at the mo?

Moodgie · 21/04/2020 08:25

@Tangledyarn How are you now with your symptoms?

Rosesofeyam · 21/04/2020 08:39

Day 34
My stomach problems are back. I haven't had them for two weeks.
Still a lot of pain in left side and back.
I think I'm going into a flare of my rhumy. Probably because I finished the steriods last week.
I had a slight rash ( pin prick, arms, legs, chest) yesterday afternoon, but it seems to of gone this morning.Confused
My chest still phlegmy and slightly shaky.
On the plus side the heartbeat/palpitations are less frequent. Yay. Smile

I hope everyone else is okay. Thinking of you all. We will get through this. Flowers

Porcupineinwaiting · 21/04/2020 08:41

Morning all. Day 34. Not been around much forafewday cause relapse. I agree that not being able to sleep makes things much worse but it seems to go with the territory. I've had 16 hours sleep in the last 96.

Interested to hear several people have been seeking out/insisting on more medical input. That's pretty much where I am at. Sick of just lying here patiently waiting/hoping this is all just going to go away.

stayathomegardener · 21/04/2020 08:46

Thanks for new thread. Great title Smile
Day 37 fed up now.

Rosesofeyam · 21/04/2020 08:50

Oh,and very itchy.

moodgie The runny tummy is the worst, just no control. Flowers
It didn't help with DD(18) calling me a cretin for stinking out the bathroom. Blush (as though I have any control in the matter)

Kitcat122 · 21/04/2020 09:16

Morning everyone, still feeling a little better each day. Chest pain is just a niggle now. Still have breathlessness but feels different now more like my lungs are too small or slightly too tight 🙄. I'm hoping this is part of the healing process. Try and stay positive I was at my wits end last week within never ending chest pain and sob. Xx

godhelpusall · 21/04/2020 09:19

I'm still feeling much better although still wake sweaty every morning. I'm putting it down to peri menopause/ hot duvet. I also still have the minty mouth which is weird- it suggests that the virus is still here!

longshot · 21/04/2020 09:39

@Kitcat122 what day are you now?

I’ve just been out to the pharmacy and shop (Day 42) and although energy wise I felt ok my chest is so damn tight!! I ran into two people I know and they both talked to me for some time whilst I was standing on the street. I could manage to talk but my chest just feels so wrong still. I was gobsmacked as I generally feel so much better.

This is going to take some time to shift. Home now and resting after my 5.30am start!!

LetsBeSensible · 21/04/2020 10:11

@baroqueandblue best wishes hope you are seen and treated by the time you read this
@thedrswife46 just tagging you in so you can find us, hope you’re well rested
Yesterday was very rough but today is day 34 I think and am feeling ok. I seem to have got a snotty cold? Anyway I shall be taking it easy today.
Hope everyone is as comfortable as possible.

Kitcat122 · 21/04/2020 10:16

@longshot I'm day 38. I was the same last week my mum dropped Easter eggs to the doorstep for the kids then we had a 10 min chat with her at the gate, my chest felt very weird and breathlessness afterwards. But this week I'm definitely feeling a very little bit better each day. Still have symptoms but milder and less during the day xx

Schuyler · 21/04/2020 10:26

I’ve been following the threads.
I was in close contact with someone who tested positive but unfortunately, unable to get a test. My hospital only test if you’re admitted for more one than one night. Guess who was discharged after one night?! Not that I was sorry to be home. I barely slept a wink in that noisy ward.
I had pneumonia, needed oxygen and was expected to be much iller. I’m in the shielded group, have lung disease, on immune suppressing medication and steroids so had everything against me. I’m nearly 6 weeks since my first symptom of a temperature, I ended up in hospital on day 10 and I’d say I’m 99% recovered. I’m back at work on a phased return and feeling much more like my usual self.
You’ll get there, people. Hang in there.

Lightsabre · 21/04/2020 10:39

Placemarking.

Sorry to hear you're having a bad dip @WorriesomeDad but hopefully your medical tests will reveal what is actually going on so they can treat you appropriately.

It's so important to hear all of the getting better stories in the midst of this. I don't feel at the moment that life is going to be the same again- it's definitely the most debilitating illness I've ever had but I know others have other chronic conditions too.
