Thread for continuing long-term Coronavirus support

Needsomegoodnews · 21/04/2020 19:32

Day 36 and I feel...ok.... I’ve been up all day today, doing a bit of work (am sooo behind) and did a 15 min walk round the block with my kids after I managed a 10 min walk ok yesterday. I still feel exhausted and have sternum pain and the occasional under rib stabby pains but these aren’t as bad as they were. My heart rate seems to have settled and isn’t going crazy just standing up or climbing the stairs like it was, so I don’t feel as wobbly and lightheaded. My temp is 37.5 but not up to 37.8-38 like it has been recently. Still getting chills at times though. Overall I feel more positive - not getting my hopes up though, I’ve been here before and crashed again just over a week ago, so will take each day as it comes. This feels like more improvement than the last though so that’s got to be a good sign.

Glad to hear that some people are finding they’re able to get some medical reassurance and support like @TheDrsWife46 @baroqueandblue at hospital - really good to know. Thoughts to anyone who’s had a rubbish day too.

simplekindoflife · 21/04/2020 19:55

My two dc are coughing now and saying they have sore throats. Sad age 7 and 5. Such a worrying time at the moment. They're ok in themselves though.

OneDayAtATime123 · 21/04/2020 20:00

@simplekindoflife
I hope you and your kids feel better and recover soon. These are challenging times, but we will overcome.

Moominmamma33 · 21/04/2020 20:01

Just a quick check in, much better day (34?) and even managed a walk around the block! Hardly any breathlessness, a bit of back pain but very mild, and some heartburn. My temp is 37.8 this afternoon though, what's that about!

OneDayAtATime123 · 21/04/2020 20:02

@Needsomegoodnews
Good news indeed. I hope this is it.
Doctor's have been advising on moving around a little bit, to ease the symptoms and aid quicker recovery. You seem to be doing the right things.

LetsBeSensible · 21/04/2020 20:05

Turns out that it’s actually day 35 here! Was going great until later afternoon then I was cold and tired. Then I had what I would have to describe as an “attack” of severe period pain. Great.

simplekindoflife · 21/04/2020 20:14

Thank you @OneDayAtATime123

Gunner30 · 21/04/2020 20:23

Hi all, Hope you are all doing ok?

@WorriesomeDad thanks for setting up the thread and hope you start to feel better. I had a big dip around day 29-30, but seem to have improved a lot from there.

Day 39 for me and managed to do 4 hours WFH and go or a 30min walk, so feels like another big step without feeling rubbish or shattered. Going to continue increasing day by day to see how it goes.

Feeling much better, but spoke to the GP earlier regarding my sore/swollen throat as its nearly been 3.5 weeks since that flared up. Given I've had two courses of their strongest antibiotics for the kidney infection, he thinks it must be linked to the virus. He was quite honest and said they really don't know how the virus behaves, but suggested continuing what i'm doing and try using corsydyl twice a day.

Good to hear there are some other positive stories and glad others have had some more positive medical feedback too. Take care all and i'll keep updating. :-)

Dorual · 21/04/2020 20:25

Thank you @Egghead68

I'm still coughing and trying to clear my throat so much. And go away sore throat!

Who else is torn between resting to get better or activity to get better? Because activity increases viral load again, right?

Egghead68 · 21/04/2020 20:31

I didn’t feel I had the choice before because I couldn’t get off the sofa. Now I want to do more exercise but I know it physically hurts my chest if I breathe more deeply than normal. I’m sticking to a few minutes gentle cycling, a few minutes walking and, if I have any energy left over, 10 prison squats and some arm weights (day 31/32).

NordSjoen · 21/04/2020 20:34

Not posted on these but have been on the lungs threads previously. Day 49. Symptoms started with hideous barking cough then uncontrollable temp for 4 days. Cough continued for around 5 weeks. Also developed intense fatigue requiring literally days in bed whilst self isolating with my son who had a slight cough, gastric symptoms (vomiting violently once and then diarrhoea for around 3 weeks). Aural migraine last week, heart rate all over the place - not below 80 for at least 4 weeks, sometimes 110 at rest. Now been diagnosed (via phone) with pleurisy which despite taking the hugest dose of naproxen, has got worse.
Just took my temp and is 38.5. Suspect it’s become an infection now. Working FT in SEN school, bar two days off at start March for fever and 2 weeks self isolation from 18-31. Just want this to be over. Scared now as the pleurisy feels worse than the chest pain from the cough.

Egghead68 · 21/04/2020 20:34

@Dorual as a veteran of larynx problems myself, I would strongly recommend (on the advice of my respiratory physiotherapist) that you resist the urge to clear your throat and drink or swallow instead (the clearing your throat irritates your larynx and perpetuates the inflammation).

Egghead68 · 21/04/2020 20:39

@NordSjoen that’s an awfully long time to be ill Flowers. I’m not sure you should be working with a fever - can you go off sick? Do you have a hot-water bottle? I found it really helpful for the pleurisy.

Tangledyarn · 21/04/2020 20:55

@Gunner30 @Dorual The sore throat is a bit of a mystery isn't it, mine feels awful. I'm attempting to treat it as if it might be oral thrush at the moment but not convinced (or at least not the whole problem) as my glands are swollen and I've had it since the beginning.

Crayfishforyou · 21/04/2020 21:05

I am now terrified for my dd, 7.
I thought she was fine, she was a bit white and peaky for two weeks and then went seemingly back to normal.
She did a sports class via zoom and has just gone very white. She said her back hurt, and her tummy and throat hurt. She says her back hurts when she coughs. She said her legs don't want to work and she feels dizzy, really dizzy. She says she can breathe deeply, and her tummy doesn't hurt on breaths but her back hurts a bit more breathing in.
I haven't heard her cough but DH has been doing the lions share. He said she has cleared her throat a bit but not coughed.
She's not got a fever, she feels more cold than hot.
I'm going to check on her in the night.
Can I use my pulse oximeter on her? Will it work?
When I checked her middle finger it said pulse 80 and O2 level 98.
I will be checking on her in the night. Virus insomnia aside I will not be sleeping tonight.
I'm horrified, I thought she was OK or I'd never have encouraged any exercise at all. What have I done?
I think I shall ring the GP in the morning for her.

sleepwhenidie · 21/04/2020 21:07

Popping back in just to say thanks for all the replies re DD. She finally, after 5 weeks, has had a normal temperature and is much more herself, just in time for school, thank goodness. I have her on a shedload of supplements - floradix, vit C, Vit D3, probiotics and turmeric shots!

Interesting about some of you (@godhelpusall ?) having night sweats. I suddenly started getting them about 5 weeks ago and put them down to (v sudden and extreme) perimenopause. I also had a terrible headache for about a week. Then about 2 weeks after night sweats started I got sore throat, aches, sore eyes which came and went for a week or so and lost taste and smell for over 2 weeks. At no point did I have a fever or feel terribly ill or have a bad cough. The night sweats have almost stopped now but I’m wondering if it isn’t actually peri...🤷‍♀️

godhelpusall · 21/04/2020 21:34

@Crayfishforyou my dd 9 has been like it for weeks. I've had her resting and trying to get her to eat/ drink well and some sunshine. It's been a nightmare.

godhelpusall · 21/04/2020 21:36

@sleepwhenidie yes I suspect the sweats are related although I'm surprised I'm still having them when o feel much better. But 🤷‍♀️

eyebrowsofinstagram · 21/04/2020 21:38

@Elllicam you did really well to go back to work on day 30, I certainly couldn't. Just make sure you prioritise your recovery as much as you can.

@Egghead68 that's good you feel you are recovering now at least. I certainly won't be pushing myself as I can go back down again so easily.

Felt quite bad this evening and have had paracetamol and will go to bed shortly.

sleepwhenidie · 21/04/2020 21:41

crayfishforyou I hope DD is ok and it’s just a case of overdoing it when she felt better but wasn’t properly over it.

eyebrowsofinstagram · 21/04/2020 21:41

@Crayfishforyou yes sounds like you're doing the right thing checking on her in the night and calling GP in the morning. Reassuring you've got an oximeter too. Wishing you both all the best xxx

WorriesomeDad · 21/04/2020 21:56

@Crayfishforyou I know that must be really worrying. You haven’t done anything wrong. At 7 your DD is extremely low risk and it’s probably just a flare up after exercise. I think pulse ox should work ok. I’d give the gp a call in the morning but sure she will be fine. Try not to worry too much. All the best.

pinkoneblueone · 21/04/2020 23:04

@Tangledyarn thank you for the warning I have only just spotted it AFTER over doing it today and having a huge asthma attack that scared me as my oxometer read my heart rate at 185 which was very scary as it's never been as high but adrenaline pushed it up as I fought with my inhaler to breathe properly which eventually a few hours later I feel a bit better. I honestly thought I was going to have to have an ambulance out. This virus has hit me hard in the lungs. I clearly have quite a way to go to get back to full heath and strength. I now have aching muscles. Lesson to learn, I am not invincible and I do still need to read AND sleep for more than 4 hours as going to bed too late is definitely bad for me now.

pinkoneblueone · 21/04/2020 23:11

@WorriesomeDad Around 40 days I ended up with the new symptom of what tasted like poison in my mouth for 4 days it was vile and worst after waking. It is easing up thankfully.
