OMG it's Priti Smirking Patel giving the coronavirus update today.

She is very nervous. So would I be to be fair.

boatyardblues · 11/04/2020 16:22

Glad to hear that, Charlie. I’m sorry to hear that it has ended a long friendship.

Floraflower3 · 11/04/2020 16:22

With regards to capacity, I work in a London hospital and we have a couple of 'green' wards and some are closed. We've worked with other local hospitals to spread the load.

However I don't know how many admissions to expect at the peak (e.g. are we in the peak now so capacity wise we're doing ok or what?) Seeing as we're hovering at 900 deaths daily, maybe we are in our peak as the numbers are similar to Italy? Who knows!

SistemaAddict · 11/04/2020 16:27

Isn't bearing down what you do to poop or give birth? And what's "empasizing"?? Is she fake posh? I've never heard her speak before.

As a victim of domestic abuse she's giving me the rage. The police did nothing after putting me through the hell of a video interview.

I can't see anyone paying any attention to her. She's too insincere.

mrshoho · 11/04/2020 16:29

@CharlieTangoBanana They whole lot of that family were idiots to arrange that get together. You'd think out of six adults one would have had the sense to put a stop to it before driving all that way! Yes poor kids indeed.

Round my way everyone seems to be following the guidelines. There are no kids out and most cars are in the same place from week to week.

Priti Patel! She hasn't been seen in a long while!

Butternutbrownie · 11/04/2020 16:39

What is going on with the death numbers. Are they being fudged to stay under 1000? I don't understand why they are just stick at this level. It's definitely not the peak...

Choux · 11/04/2020 16:40

@CrunchyCarrots thanks for putting the table up so promptly each day. I've looked up some of the missing Italy numbers on Worldometers to save you the trouble.

March 28th - 10,023
mar 30th - 11,591
Apr 1 - 13,155
Apr 4 - 15,362
Apr 5 - 15,887
Apr 6 - 16,523
Apr 7 - 17,127
Apr 8 - 17,669

Choux · 11/04/2020 16:41

@CrunchyCarrot that should be!

CrunchyCarrot · 11/04/2020 16:42

Thank you @Choux, I will add those in! Smile

Choux · 11/04/2020 16:43

Is Priti standing on a plinth? Is she really tiny?

Choux · 11/04/2020 16:50

Summary of Priti’s answers to PPE questions: I’ve just said and Stephen has said and the health sec has said we have a plan re PPE. We are getting it out there, this is an unprecedented situation, unprecedented, UNPRECEDENTED!!!

OldQueen1969 · 11/04/2020 16:50

Did she just do the whole sorrynotsorry thing about PPE or am I being particularly cynical and unkind? (Been a long day.)

Choux · 11/04/2020 16:51

Yes @OldQueen1969 twice she said 'I'm sorry if people think that' not 'I'm sorry if it's not getting to medics fast enough'

CrunchyCarrot · 11/04/2020 16:52

New chart with filled in gaps, thank you @Choux.

BanditoShipman · 11/04/2020 16:54

Bercows - sorry to hear that re your video interview. Same here, not DV but my young daughter was raped, police did video with her (very traumatic) and then decided on NFA as the boy said it didn’t happen Hmm Angry so I feel I say I share your pain Flowers

OldQueen1969 · 11/04/2020 16:54

@choux I thought so...... it's the whole "never admit liability" schtick...... beloved of insurance companies and the like....... and somewhat PA...... didn't really expect anything different tbf...... Sigh.......

BanditoShipman · 11/04/2020 16:55

Why is Priti so EURGH? ‘Sorry if you feel that way’ Hmm

Choux · 11/04/2020 16:56

So from the 8k deaths Italy had 2 weeks ago, they doubled in 11 days.

Sobering thought when looking at our numbers.

RedToothBrush · 11/04/2020 17:00

The idea is covid hospital and normal hospitals for the medium term.

So nightingales will be needed.

Given who is staffing the nightingales, I don't hold much hope for death toll in the medium term.

Also it will give you an idea of how long we are going to need restrictions / special measures.

The venues are not going to be used for large events for a long time. We will not have large events full stop for a long time.

MurrayTheMonk · 11/04/2020 17:04

Bloody Priti Patel. Not been seen for weeks ( thankfully) and now getting flack for it so they've wheeled her out 🙄

OldQueen1969 · 11/04/2020 17:04

And apparently according to bloke to her left whose name I forget, the NHS is open for business and able to manage a wide range of other conditions..... so those whose cancer treatment has been postponed for example are just unlucky or not sick enough? Because the impression I have been given by our local services is if it's not Covid, stiffen your upper lip and suck it up..... (again, apologies for cynicism).

RedToothBrush · 11/04/2020 17:08

I wonder if Patel was the unnamed cabinet ministry who was in isolation before any of the ones we know about.

Ilikefresias · 11/04/2020 17:14

I feel terrified that the press are putting them under pressure to reopen schools too soon. It feels like the press wanted schools to close, they’ve only been closed for 10 days yet all I’m reading (admittedly Daily Mail online Blush) is that they should reopen because of a study which is being misquoted showing that school closure does not make much difference. Once schools open there can be no social distancing whatsoever!! Even people without children with use this as an excuse to stop social distancing...

Legoandloldolls · 11/04/2020 17:29

I think we are clearly on par with Italy now. It just doesn't feel like it. It doesn't seem real at all. Maybe because its spread out across the UK so there isn't a whole town/ village seeing multiple deaths? It's still reasonably rate for mist people to actually have a lived one die?

I think it's more about the BBC spin on reporting. If you was waking another country report on us youd be more alarmed? Or because we are vvery stiff upper lip so the emotion is lacking in the reporting?

Time will show as we wo t know we have peaked until it's well in the past. I dont think this is the peak. I also think we are in a whole lot more poo than we know as we are only reporting hospital deaths.

Its becoming g easy to know you cant leave the house, but the why and that I might die seems to be become less real as time passes.

peridito · 11/04/2020 17:36

The number of deaths announced each day are made up of a collection of deaths ocurring on different dates over who knows how long - weeks? They're not a total of deaths arising on one day .

I can't help wondering if they've managed it so that a particularly high number get announced over the Easter weekend to underline the stay home message .
