Thanks for the new thread

IwantKoalas · 10/04/2020 00:48

I'm going to order air condition before it gets stockpiled.

IwantKoalas · 10/04/2020 00:50

Oh never mind it's too expensive :(

IwantKoalas · 10/04/2020 01:01

This bloody virus is expensive

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 01:04

OP your name makes me want to start singing, and painting 😂

Koalas are you stuck in a hellish hot flat too?

IwantKoalas · 10/04/2020 01:22

I wouldn't call it hellish at this stage but by may I'm sure

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 01:25

Koalas yes, I was saying on the other thread, these tiny hot flats will be a mare. But really we need a cool summer for hospital patients and anyone in PPE.

If you’re in London then next week should be more normal.

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 01:25

Oh and the bloody cladding traps heat....sorry, I’ll stop now.

IwantKoalas · 10/04/2020 01:47

Really interested to see though if CO2 cuts will show this summer

Theflushedzebra · 10/04/2020 02:01

Really interested to see though if CO2 cuts will show this summer

It surely will - but how long the change will last is debatable.

Fewer planes in the sky, fewer cars on the road, even public transport cut right down... ths article caught my eye a while ago:

www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/mar/20/nature-is-taking-back-venice-wildlife-returns-to-tourist-free-city

And the this:

www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/uk-news/herd-deer-make-home-council-18030904

And air pollution said to be down too. Amazing how fast these things have happened.

IwantKoalas · 10/04/2020 02:29

The stillness and clean air is lovely. It's a glimpse of what the world should be like. We have been so irresponsible and should take care of the planet and animals.

Mittens030869 · 10/04/2020 03:27

Thanks for another new thread. I've always found them really helpful.

middleager · 10/04/2020 06:19

Thanks for this - I've been on most of these threads and yes, they are very useful.

MurrayTheMonk · 10/04/2020 07:25

Of the positives re lock down, and there are some, the environmental impact is definitely one.

CovidCanFKcuOFF · 10/04/2020 07:29

And of course course the drop in pollution will help us with the virus. Areas with lots of pollution have people who suffer more, their lungs are already damaged.

CovidCanFKcuOFF · 10/04/2020 07:32

Murray definitely
I'm also enjoying this extra time with my family. We've been working from the home but have been off this week. But even the driving time, obviously being at home has been lovely and being physically there with the dc has been lovely.
Time is very precious, dc don't get much time to just be, their lives are highly organised. Mine are gently ticking over with school work. It's more relaxed. No deadlines, rushing in cars...

WhyNotMe40 · 10/04/2020 07:55

It's a silly thing but I'm really enjoying not rushing around having to get my kids to x activity by y time. They don't do loads each but with 3 kids it ends up being a lot! We have swimming x 3 (not all at the same time), cubs, rainbows, football, science club, drama club, and all 3 do roller skating, and we also visit the library...

Ladyellow · 10/04/2020 07:56

Lots of ( definitely not all) positives in this article. Just the probable reduction in road kill is staggering - particularly as it’s spring when lots of baby animals are born.
I live in fairly central Bristol where it’s densely populated and I have definitely noticed how much quieter it is as we can hear birds singing much more!
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/09/climate-crisis-amid-coronavirus-lockdown-nature-bounces-back-but-for-how-long

WhyNotMe40 · 10/04/2020 08:02

The main thing I've noticed unfortunately is more ambulance sirens. I'm pretty sure it's due to lack of other traffic noise but we are on the main road from one direction to our main hospital which I know has been pretty badly hit. :(

Alwayscheerful · 10/04/2020 08:03

Who would have thought there would be a thread 37!

AliciaWhiskers · 10/04/2020 08:09

Thanks for the thread

TheABC · 10/04/2020 08:18

It makes you wonder if we can retain any positives from this lock-down, when it is finished? Traffic will go up again when people go back to work, but it will be a good opportunity to push for better public transport and priorising cycling over cars.

Keepdistance · 10/04/2020 08:48

There seems to have been several deaths now where people with breathing difficulty have been returned home and then collapsed and died.
I think they are going to need to keep people in longer observing them. Even if that is say tents in a car park.

refraction · 10/04/2020 08:52

Scientific adviser Prof Neil Ferguson, who was asked about coming out of lockdown, said it would likely "be targeted by age, by geography".
