Maybe because its spread out across the UK so there isn't a whole town/ village seeing multiple deaths?
Deaths in Italy were highly concerntrated in a small area.
Deaths in the UK have been concerntrated, until recently, in London - which has far more capacity (and population) so probably has coped better for this reason.
If it becomes more regionalised with a concerntration of cases in a rural or provincial area rather than a major city we could see more problems.
Overall our situation is bad because its more widespread but our hospitals have not been overwhelmed in quite the same manner as happened in parts of Italy.
This is leading to a sense that its not as bad as Italy I suspect.
