Will we be further locked down before Easter - Yes Or No

No point in putting this in AIBU as it will be moved so unable to use the vote functionality there.

There’s loads of threads about the rights and wrongs of banning exercise or other further restrictions but th3 fact is the government could do it

I think this weekend has shown too many people are unable to do what is asked of them as they all feel their circumstances somehow exempt them and, with a 4 day weekend coming up, it’s going to be too big a risk not to apply further restrictions

So will we be further locked down before Easter - Just Yes or No

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 05/04/2020 18:29

I think whether the Govt announces a lock down before or after Easter will show their intentions.
If they are going for herd immunity they'll wait til after Easter.
If they are trying to prevent the spread it will be before.

MigginsMrs · 05/04/2020 18:33

and the idiots who think there's not enough resources to enforce further measures haven't got a clue. Some people are in for a massive shock. It won't be pleasant for anyone.

Really?

Remember the 2010 riots? Took a while to get that under control.

DameHannahRelf · 05/04/2020 18:34

Yes, because people aren't getting it. Even some of my own family, that I thought had more sense. Some examples I've seen or heard about in the last week include people going to visit gf's/fuck buddies, friends and relatives as usual, in each others houses shagging, using each others toilets, drinking tea and sharing biscuits of the same plate etc, giving people who don't live with them lifts in the car, going on multiple shopping trips for non essentials/things that could wait, or just for "something to do", not social distancing in parks and shops etc.

Zisforstripyoss · 05/04/2020 18:36

Yes, I definitely think restrictions will be tightened due to the people who can't follow the rules. It's been put "out there" today, so I think it's definitely coming soon.

coachman · 05/04/2020 18:39

Yes, I think because it's a Bank holiday weekend. It's disappointing as I think the measures we have currently are ok if people adhere to them. And I think most are.

CeibaTree · 05/04/2020 18:42

No I don't think we will be. There aren't the police numbers to enforce anything further, and if the army is drafted in to enforce a kind of marshal law that will be the end of the Tory party in the next election as they will be in effect punishing the population to make up for their slow reaction to the whole situation which could have been dealt with much differently.

Bearbehind · 05/04/2020 18:55

No I don't think we will be. There aren't the police numbers to enforce anything further

I honestly can’t get my head around people with this mentality

If the government legislates that you can only go out for food or medicine surely your first thought isn’t, or at least shouldn’t be ‘ah well, they’ll never be able to enforce it’

I hope they fine every fucker at least £1,000 a time for breaching the rules

OP posts:
Londongirl88888 · 05/04/2020 18:55

I think the announcement today at 5 said they had no plans to change to stricter lockdowns. They mentioned the positives of excercise for health and mental health.

They should just fine teenagers/ adults etc out doing as they please. Punish the small amount of idiots not listening. But the impact it will have on decent people following the rules would be hugely unfair and in some cases it will lead to a whole range of health problems.

My five year old needs her little walk 2-3 max a week just to let her know things are ok. It's a scary thought to think of us unable to leave the house. I really hope they just deal with the idiots.

MotherOfDragonite · 05/04/2020 18:58

It makes them look pretty stupid. They only locked down (reluctantly, too late) just recently! Before that they were insisting that children should keep going to school every day... not very long ago...

So, I don't think they will lock down further just yet. Although they probably should.

DameHannahRelf · 05/04/2020 18:58

I'm sick of trailing my dog and ds away from people round the local park, while they march on, seemingly oblivious to the fact I'm trying to put 2m between us, and that if they just moved a foot to one side, we wouldn't be teetering on the edge of a river, or backed into a wall of trees (the path is quite narrow in parts). Or there's groups of people standing chatting away, blocking the whole path, who look at you like you've got three heads when you say "excuse me, can I get past?", then move just enough to let you pass withing 6 inches of them.

We've started walking the dog after dark, or in bad weather as there seem to be more people about then with the same idea and also making an effort at social distancing, and we go to the other further away park more now, as it's more like a massive field/open. I've noticed a lot dog walkers doing the same.

It pisses me off to think we could loose the one walk a day we have left, for arseholes who didn't even know they had a local park, until the pubs and gyms shut, who aren't taking heed.

Laiste · 05/04/2020 18:58

The people who wont follow the rules now wont follow stricter rules either.

Those who are already following the rules wont be allowed out of the house at all.

Where is the quantity of enforcers going to come from to enforce this lockdown plus? And if they're readily available why aren't they enforcing the lock down we have already?

NoSquirrels · 05/04/2020 20:25

There is no such thing as the NHS “going under”

It is not a ship, that can sink
Oh dear. I hope you don't believe this. The outcome of this pandemic could indeed spell the end of a nationalised public health service for the UK.

Yes, things may get horrendous, people in tents dying without medical support

But hospitals and medical staff will not all vanish off the face of the UK

Hospitals and medical staff may not "vanish off the face of the UK" (- that is, if we haven't worked them into the ground, or killed off a greater proportion of them than necessary because of lack of PPE and cavalier attitudes) but the National Health Service they work in may well be dismantled and privatised. It really could "vanish".

I don't want a privatised US-style health system, and neither should you if you value "free at the point of access" healthcare for all, even the poorest and most disadvantaged.

I honestly can’t get my head around people with this mentality

What the hell are you on about in regards to my mentality?! I've been following lockdown rules since they came in thanks. The OP asked for opinions and I gave mine and the reasons I thought so. No need to be such an aggressive dick about things or do you just like to shut down any kind of debate?

Bridecilla · 05/04/2020 20:30

Yes, I think there will be further lockdowns.

We're lucky to have a garden. If I didn't I'd be seriously considering moving in with a friend or family member who had been socially sensible like us.

Bearbehind · 05/04/2020 20:49

Firstly, I am the OP.

Secondly, calling me an ‘aggressive dick’ helps no one

Thirdly, I was asking why you think the fear of people thinking no one can enforce the rules should be seen as some kind of deterrent?

OP posts:
Isadora2007 · 05/04/2020 20:56

No

thesedaysarescary · 05/04/2020 21:25

We need a stricter lockdown as so many people flout the guidelines. I'm not sure we are going to get it though. Realistically we don't have enough armed forces or police to enforce it. I think that why we got a soft lockdown in the first place. I am thoroughly disheartened by the sheer number is selfish people who will not conform and follow the rules. For everyone of us who are be proud. I for one am proud of my friends and family who are behaving so well at this tough time.

CeibaTree · 05/04/2020 21:37

Yes I saw you are the OP - in the context it was 'the Original Post'

you think the fear of people thinking no one can enforce the rules should be seen as some kind of deterrent

No I don't think that at all, you are making assumptions about what I think - I was just stating why I don't think the government will enforce a tighter lockdown. It would be like a teacher or parent threatening a punishment they know they can't follow through - and they must know the average rule flouter knows this/would think this. You know people can postulate something from someone else's point of view without necessarily agreeing/endorsing that point of view right?

You asked if people thought we would be further locked down before Easter and I don't think we will. But now I see that you did state So will we be further locked down before Easter - Just Yes or No so I guess I should have just answered with 'no'.

Bearbehind · 05/04/2020 21:41

Fair enough ceiba

Time will tell

If I suspect the fact Boris Johnson has now been admitted to hospital is going to influence matters this week too

It just proves no one is beyond catching this and people need to fucking well stay inside and not give it the ‘there’s not enough police to catch me if I don’t’

OP posts:
mindproject · 05/04/2020 21:41

The government will want to make things as increasingly difficult for people as possible so that people will be literally begging for the 'vaccine'. I think that's the way it's going.

Gullible blind fools.

Bearbehind · 05/04/2020 21:47

Ah, an anti vaxer - say no more.

OP posts:
EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 05/04/2020 21:49

Of course we want a vaccine

Less people will die then

It’s not rocket science

It does the vaccine also impact part of our brains so we vote Tory

LesLavandes · 05/04/2020 22:24

I hope so. Thanks to the idiots who didn't follow the rules

HairyToity · 05/04/2020 22:25

No please no. I love my daily exercise.

Graphista · 05/04/2020 22:26

@CeibaTree martial law won't happen here that's an entirely different thing to the armed forces being called on to support police.

Which has happened before on occasion. Certainly not that long ago that there were armed forces personnel patrolling in certain parts of the Uk so it needs to be handled with great care.
