Lots out cyclists out, but can anyone honestly say every one of them look like they're exercising! Perhaps more evidence for for full lockdown?

For the people who are shocked that 3,000 people went to Brockwell Park yesterday: the population of Lambeth is 325,000, and the area or Brockwell Park is 500,000 square metres. You can easily fit 3,000 people in over the course of a day and maintain social distancing.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 05/04/2020 10:21

If they are staying at safe distances what is the issue? What is the difference between cycling and sitting on the ground? I was lounging in the sun yesterday - in my large garden, not everyone is so fortunate so give people a break!

CarlottaValdez · 05/04/2020 10:22

I’m in Richmond Park right now, it’s not too busy. I can’t see anyone except my children from where I am right now.

theschoolonthehill · 05/04/2020 10:24

Those who believe further lockdown is imminent, what exactly would that entail?

Police patrolling and issuing fines and/or sentences the same as in Europe.

1forsorrow · 05/04/2020 10:25

My husband is disabled, if we are out he needs to sit down at regular intervals, as we walk along the prom he might sit for a few minutes at every other bench. I go off for a brisk walk and then come back to him for a leisurely walk he can manage. People can't judge if they don't know the circumstances.

Cary2012 · 05/04/2020 10:26

I didn't make the rules.
Matt Hancock repeated them today. Again. And again.
People should go out once a day, for exercise.
They should not sunbathe in parks. His words.
Today they've closed more parks because people cannot or will not follow the rules.
Stay inside. That doesn't mean sunbathe in a park.
That's the issue. People are not getting it.

1forsorrow · 05/04/2020 10:27

Police patrolling and issuing fines and/or sentences the same as in Europe. Shame the Tories cut the numbers, how can they possibly cope?

WingBingo · 05/04/2020 10:30

Huge amount of people in Torquay seafront yesterday.

I went for a run up Haldon Hill from my house, (forest/park) and saw quite a few cars parked up along the road.

I then ran through my local village and saw neighbours out chatting really close to each other. Elderly ones too.

People are not following the rules in quite a few places. It really does beggar belief.

SarahTancredi · 05/04/2020 10:32

People can't judge if they don't know the circumstances

Aaah but they do. This isnt the first competitive isolation thread. If everyones inside then we shouldn't even know about any of this should we?

But they are happy to forget that part if it means they can lay into people. People they know nothing about applying their idea if what they think exercising should look like.

FlamingoAndJohn · 05/04/2020 10:37

Dh just went for a walk around the park behind our house. He stepped to the side of the foot path to let a man and his dog through.
The man said ‘you don’t need to do that. Big brother isn’t watching’.
Stupid fucker.

SureSureSure · 05/04/2020 10:41

You can look at many, many parts of London on the TfL jamcam app. It’s like a ghost town, mostly.

What a pathetic comment from that man with his dog.

I would say 'I'm not doing it to please big brother I'm doing it to stop the spread'

Oblomov20 · 05/04/2020 10:49

Richmond Park is not that far away and we go very occasionally. My boss lives near it.

The pictures/video from the news last night was embarrassing.

We just can't seem to get through to people can we? We have to question people's intelligence if they just don't understand the message.

I find it frightening. I knew people were stupid. But sometimes their stupidity staggers me.

Oblomov20 · 05/04/2020 10:54

I don't know if it's from yesterday? Are we being faked here?

But. I can tell you, it was boiling in Surrey yesterday and we had lunch in garden and my boys took their tops off.

So it is possible. For those pp's who said it wasn't that warm yesterday.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 10:55

I saw people in summer gear in the park. First day of sunshine and summer clothes come out!

LittleLittleLittle · 05/04/2020 10:56

@Kastanien there are other places to walk in the area but only runners or cyclists who have had to find routes for training in winter or travel are the ones who are likely to know them.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 10:57

And people bringing loaves of break to feed the flippin parakeets isn’t essential! They block off a couple of paths standing there and the police come and shop them away every so and often.

1forsorrow · 05/04/2020 10:58

Huge amount of people in Torquay seafront yesterday. Shows how it varies, I'm just a few miles away and our beach was deserted.

LittleLittleLittle · 05/04/2020 10:58

@1forsorrow the virus lives on hard surfaces for a few days. I wouldn't sit in a bench if I hadn't wiped it down first.

1forsorrow · 05/04/2020 10:59

I saw people in summer gear in the park. First day of sunshine and summer clothes come out! Isn't wearing summer gear in summer appropriate? Did you think they should be in full arctic explorer gear?

1forsorrow · 05/04/2020 11:01

@1forsorrow the virus lives on hard surfaces for a few days. I wouldn't sit in a bench if I hadn't wiped it down first. Only his behind touches it and he changes into clean clothes when we come in. He uses his frame to get up and down so doesn't touch it with his hands.

CeibaTree · 05/04/2020 11:01

With regards to Matt Hancock's latest comments about stopping people exercising outside if they don't start behaving - at what point do we say this isn't worth it? Far more people's mental and physical health will suffer (vs those who catch a fatal dose of C-19) if they are cooped up in a small garden-less flat with (or indeed without) children all day.

Rosa · 05/04/2020 11:04

NExt step close all the parks and public areas .... It happened in Italy but the UK were giving the population the chance to be intellegent . So those few will ruined it for those that do respect. Oh and the next move will be no exercise further than X m from your home ... That is hard !

SarahTancredi · 05/04/2020 11:06

ceiba

I think its heading that way...

I'm getting really angry at all.the celebs etc posting their videos telling people to stay home when they have more living space in their downstairs toilet than my entire house

Kastanien · 05/04/2020 11:11

So what is Matt Hancock saying to ministers like the Scottish Chief Medical Officer who admitted staying at her second home an hours drive from her main residence, despite everyone else being told not to do that? If ministers are breaking the rules then it gives a really bad impression to others and will royally piss off the public The police should have been knocking on her door IMO.
