Lots out cyclists out, but can anyone honestly say every one of them look like they're exercising! Perhaps more evidence for for full lockdown?

Hampstead heath absolutely heaving with people today. Definitely hot enough for sunbathing. I decided not to go on to the heath when I saw the ridiculous numbers of people pouring on to it from all angles. Its a joke.

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 05:46

For people going on about coffee cups. Several places in Richmond are open for take away hot drinks.

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 05/04/2020 06:05

Most of Britain's covid-19 cases are in London. Do they not have herd immunity yet in plague central? Are there any statistics at all?

CarlottaValdez · 05/04/2020 06:11

I was in Richmond park yesterday and while there were lots of people (it’s a densely populated area) I didn’t see anyone being irresponsible. People using the park to walk are being quite sensible I think, you can get much further away from people than on the streets round there.

CarlottaValdez · 05/04/2020 06:12

That footage isn’t the park by the way.

Mimishimi · 05/04/2020 06:22

I went for a bike ride with my husband today. A proper one though, not gently peddling through crowds of people although there were a lot of people out enjoying the sunshine (Sydney) in parts . I wore a homemade cloth mask. As a hair and makeup artist, I'm always working on weekends and this is literally the first time in years that we've been able to do this together. Otherwise, we've been cooped up in our apartment for a good 3 weeks apart from the odd dash to the shops.

HennyPenny4 · 05/04/2020 06:39

Not many boomers there - just saying.

twinnywinny14 · 05/04/2020 06:41

Sunbathing, picnics, sitting around eating and drinking takeaways is not one of the reasons identified for leaving your home. It’s not difficult ffs. People trying to justify it by saying they were dropping stuff off at their nans or had been shopping are just making excuses. Leave your house do one of the things identified as a necessary reason and then go home, it’s not difficult to understand, people just don’t want to do it

coachman · 05/04/2020 07:03

I'm in London and it's very quiet where I am. More people than usual out for a walk, run etc but very few cars. People are respecting the guidelines.

Alongside this footage of a busy place where are the photos of the quiet, deserted streets? It's not balanced reporting. This is one place in a big city.

I don't understand why so many people on Mumsnet are desperate for a tighter lockdown. Exercise is important for mental and physical wellbeing.

Shehz21 · 05/04/2020 07:22

Second CarlottaValdez. This is not the park.

I live in London and my local park was very quiet yesterday. Even more so than usual days.
I have never seen so many cars in their driveways and I could smell bbqs(neighbours doing it in their respective gardens), kids playing in their gardens. Not one single kid in the park when I was out on my walk(2x a week).

Definitely does not need a stricter/full lockdown here. People abiding by the rules and I'm very proud of my area in general.Smile

coachman · 05/04/2020 07:24

I don't think that logistically it could be administered, but I would like to see a scheme where only those people living in flats with no garden would be allowed to use the parks. I can see huge temptation to go to open space when the weather is as lovely as it is in London today. It must be hard for families, particularly those with young children, to stay indoors.

I'm fortunate enough to have a garden and I really feel for those that don't.

CarlottaValdez · 05/04/2020 07:27

We have a tiny courtyard so could be worse but I currently feel following the advice and going out for one decent walk or scoot or bike ride with children is fine. I guess I’ll have to get them running up and down the stairs or something if we are told we can’t leave the house.

SomethingOnce · 05/04/2020 07:50

DC and I haven’t been out at all for two weeks, barely out for three. I’ll check to see if the streets are empty because everyone is, in fact, whooping it up in the park.

MrsFruitcake · 05/04/2020 07:53

I'm sure in one shot there's a bloke drinking a pint from an actual glass. I thought pubs are closed?

SimonJT · 05/04/2020 07:59

Some people own actual glasses to drink from.

MrsFruitcake · 05/04/2020 08:02

Yes I know Simon, but why would you go to the bother of taking one with you and not just drink it from the can? Seems off to me.

CeibaTree · 05/04/2020 08:12

Most of Britain's covid-19 cases are in London. Do they not have herd immunity yet in plague central? Are there any statistics at all?

The East Midlands are set to be the next virus hotspot (or 'plague central') according to news reports.

Of course London as the UK's biggest travel hub and most densely populated area has the highest cases at the moment, but there are 10,247 confirmed cases in a city of over 8 million which hardly makes it 'plague central'Hmm

missyB1 · 05/04/2020 08:16

BBC have just shown the footage on breakfast news, also some idiots having a bbq on the beach at Hove. I believe it’s all real and actually happening because unfortunately there really are people that selfish and stupid.
They obviously don’t give a shiny shit about the NHS workers that are dying from looking after patients with Covid.

Queenscake · 05/04/2020 08:20

Saw people having picnic outside

BillywilliamV · 05/04/2020 08:25

Thats it, bye bye Mumsnet. Can't be arsed with any of this!

Flouncers corner is what you need.

yearinyearout · 05/04/2020 08:34

Our riverside area was all but empty yesterday, just the odd dog walker or family taking their kids for a walk, so clearly this video isn't representative of the whole country. We would normally be overrun with tourists from the nearest city on a sunny day.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 08:44

I think the parks will be busier today. It was mobbed next to us, lots of people hits sitting on the grass, some having picnics, loads out on Boris bikes.

I’m in London too and have noticed more people in the park - even during the week (I work part time so see it most days of the week as I walk home).
