Lots out cyclists out, but can anyone honestly say every one of them look like they're exercising! Perhaps more evidence for for full lockdown?

Richmond is a London borough and it’s even on the tube.

CeibaTree · 05/04/2020 08:53

It's from Richmond which is in Surrey. Not really London at all. It's about 10 miles out...
Umm it's the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames and is in zone 4. I used to live in the borough and most people there do consider themselves Londoners!

daisypond · 05/04/2020 08:55

Richmond is not in Surrey! It is in London. It’s a London borough. It hasn’t been “Surrey” since 1965.

FlamingoAndJohn · 05/04/2020 08:56

Careful. We had a whole thread once about wether Richmond was Surrey or London.
It ended up quite heated.

SimonJT · 05/04/2020 08:56

We’re off to London Fields in a minute, I shall report back in a bit, when we went yesterday it was dead.

Kastanien · 05/04/2020 08:57

If they really didn't want to be at risk of being filmed in a public place (which is legal) then it's probably best to...i'm sure you get the gist

What- not go out for a walk- which is legal?

I went out for a walk yesterday with my DD. We were in the park, very few people there. My DD tripped and twisted her ankle. She hobbled to a park bench and we sat there for about 10 minutes waiting for the pain to ease so we could walk home again. The bench was on the side of a very wide path so anyone walking past could keep to the distances required. If the Daily Mail had photographed us it would have looked like we were sunbathing.

You don't know the reasons why some of those people were sitting. Most of them do seem to be just walking and keeping their distance. It is not their fault they live in an area which is crowded and other people happen to be out walking at the same time.

BasinHaircut · 05/04/2020 09:04

What I see is many pairs of people (couples presumably) walking along, and mostly lone cyclists.

There aren’t any large gatherings, very few children, people seem to be staying away from each other as much as possible given the amount of people there.

Of course people want to get out for a walk or ride this weekend as the weather is glorious. They are allowed to do that. It’s obvious that if you live in that area, that’s where you would go to have a nice walk.

So bored of all the shaming and virtue signalling. No one is getting a prize for staying in the most, or staying the furthest away from any other human being.

2 metres is the rule. I’d rather see this than everyone being forced to stay in their homes 24/7 getting depressed.

Makeitgoaway · 05/04/2020 09:11

I don't know about this footage but I have definitely seen photos on "reputable" news sites purporting to be from yesterday but which show groups of cyclists in buffs and heavy gloves, runners in long sleeves and hats etc

Most police forces are reporting that the rules were widely respected yesterday (with a couple exceptions) but that doesn't make for interesting news stories or much sharing outrage.

I have a friend who's photo was used (in the Daily Mail no less Grin) to "prove" middle aged women were turning to endurance events to cope with menopause. She'd actually trained and done the event to help her daughter who was struggling with her MH. It was a genuine picture but the story was completely unrelated.

SomethingOnce · 05/04/2020 09:14

We had one a couple of weeks back re Bromley and Croydon iirc. Let’s not go there.

CarlottaValdez · 05/04/2020 09:25

There was also a very heated one about Kingston upon Thames. That was good because people were passionately arguing that the residents were pretending to be London because they are all snobs and also people arguing that the residents were pretending to be Surrey because they are all snobs.

cologne4711 · 05/04/2020 09:25

I'm sure in one shot there's a bloke drinking a pint from an actual glass. I thought pubs are closed

Yes because the footage was shot last year sometime. It's fake news.

Here is another example: twitter.com/mikeparkerwales/status/1246711898013339648

People are very gullible and believe all kinds of rubbish because they want to believe people are bad and because they want a tighter lockdown because it's exciting or they are over-anxious and think sitting in your garden gives you the virus.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 05/04/2020 09:29

I think if they are going for tighter lockdown they should do that in the areas where most are not following the rules. In my ruralish area of Scotland we are all sticking to the rules, no cars going about, only off people out walking etc very unfair to punish us all

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 09:32

I passed a group of 3 20-somethings having a lovely picnic (3 bottles of wine) sitting on a statue base in Hyde park. There were quite a lot of people out sitting on the grass.

I assume there are still students living in flatshares and flat-mates, as it isn’t exactly cheap, hence groups of younger people out and about. Our neighbour mentioned that her flat mate was zipping between there and his girlfriends house - and she also shares (so not mixing households at all then).

CeibaTree · 05/04/2020 09:36

@SingingBabooshkaBadly Ah it's Brockwell Park that's been closed, not Bushy Park. I was worried for a moment (but obviously feel sorry for all those who have been behaving responsibly who were relying on Brockwell park for their green space)!

Makeitgoaway · 05/04/2020 09:40

What are the photographers doing out? Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 09:45

Anyone with a phone on their camera is a reporter these days...

Duchessofblandings · 05/04/2020 09:50

Why are so many people so reluctant to believe it’s from today?

There are hundreds of thousands of people in Kingston and Richmond in flats without gardens or balconies. The towpath is always heaving on sunny days and it’s not hard at all to imagine people continuing their habits during this partial lockdown.

Unfortunately it is likely to lead to stricter measures for everyone if they don’t change their behaviour.

SimonJT · 05/04/2020 09:53

At London Fields, there’s a dog walker, but apart from that no one in view. We saw a few people on the walk here, two of which were in carers uniforms.

Cary2012 · 05/04/2020 10:01

Matt Hancock on Sky with Sophie Raworth this morning. Addressed 3k in park in London yesterday. "Unbelievable" he said. "Can people sit together on a bench if they are socially distancing?" she asked. "No" he said.

coachman · 05/04/2020 10:03

The problem is exacerbated by those at the top not practising what they preach. Scottish Chief Medical Officer Catherine Calderwood has been photographed, with her family, at her holiday home in Fife this weekend. They were photographed on Thursday night clapping for the NHS outside their Edinburgh home.

This is not ok.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 05/04/2020 10:04

I totally believe the footage was from Saturday. Our local FB page had people complaining about the masses down by the river (Kingston). Some people had called the police to ask them to disperse people. Our street is near a park and a few green areas, it was busier than summer.

Cary2012 · 05/04/2020 10:10

Regardless of the footage being from yesterday or not, news channels are reporting of large gatherings yesterday.
I hope they had fun, I hope they are happy that they have just extended the lockdown and spread a deadly virus.
Expect a tighter lockdown now. Exercise is moving, not sat on picnic blankets and sunbathing in groups.
Twunts.

SarahTancredi · 05/04/2020 10:17

Exercise is moving, not sat on picnic blankets and sunbathing in groups

Those groups could be households.

And does the virus go hunting then go shit no i wont infect that person they are exercising? No.

The truth is those sat down with a coffee are as likely to catch ot as those out running.

You have no idea which person gave it to you.

Outside is outside really isnt it.

Kastanien · 05/04/2020 10:18

But what behaviour? Even if the police moved on all the people sitting on benches or on the grass, there are still lots of people taking their (permitted) exercise there because that is probably the main place to walk in the area. It really isn't anyone's fault that everyone else is out at the same time, with the huge population in the area there is probably not many time slots when it is not busy. And who want s to be walking around at 11 at night or 6 in the morning? Getting the sun is good for health, vitamin D deficiency can be very nasty.

1forsorrow · 05/04/2020 10:18

I don't think it is the same everywhere. We went for a walk at local beach yesterday, 2 minute drive from home so we are allowed. We walked across the grass area and saw no one. Went onto the prom and could see six people on the beach, looked like 2 family groups at opposite ends of the beach, well over half a mile between them. The prom was empty but while we were there, about half an hour, another couple arrived. Again they were at the opposite end of the beach to us. Walked back across the green which was again empty. So some areas might be being stupid but other people are behaving sensibly. If the beach/prom had been busy we would have left or just stayed on the grass area if it was empty.
