AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

I've bought a pack of 24 last week but only because the panic buyers bought all the packs of 9, so we had no choice! We went shopping this week and obviously didn't need to buy any.

Desperate times.....

AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!
Ariela · 15/03/2020 23:37

I bought 5 or 6 packs of 9 recycled when last on offer (before panic buying was a thing), still got loads left. Only have 1loo
Am a little concerned that I won't be able to find quilted for my elderly neighbour who has a failed mesh mend of a prolapse and consequent continence problems and thus uses a lot, needs the quilted as it is thicker and softer. Have checked every time I pop to the shops (any shop) and not found any for 2 weeks. Might have to start going first thing in the day instead of on my way home from the shops

Lilacwine01 · 16/03/2020 01:18

We get an every 3 month delivery from Who Gives A Crap... we have about 30 rolls in the loft (we go up there for one reason or another most days, it'snot like a spidery loft 😁). We've been doing it for about a year so not panic bought!

Popsandevie · 16/03/2020 01:19

I have three in the house. I suffer from IBS and have been trying to find some but it all seems to be gone.

MadameFireweed · 16/03/2020 01:54

I did initially feel a bit guilty about buying enough toilet rolls to last me for a month. However as a pensioner with diabetes, osteoarthritis and a heart condition I am very likely to be one of those people who will shortly be obliged by the government to self-isolate at home for up to three months. No idea what I'm going to do for the final two months...

Schuyler · 16/03/2020 02:07

Not enough!
I’m in isolation, although too unwell to go out anyway, having just come from home from hospital and I have a very upset stomach due to strong antibiotics. :( Fortunately, I have nice people who don’t mind going to various shops to get toilet roll for me but it’s annoying that people are crazy stocking up. I don’t mean those who are getting a few extra. That’s sensible.
Perhaps I’m just too grumpy at 2 am, sick of the sight of my own bathroom and angry at my poor bowels while people are buying enough toilet paper to sink a battleship Blush

we are a family of 3 adults. We have 2 unopened packs of 9 bought before the panic buying as I buy 2 packs every fortnight and we already had quite a lot left from the previous pack. We have 3 loos, they have each got a roll in them plus the downstairs loo has a basket with a couple of spare rolls in it. So 20ish. DS. has some digestive issues and when they flare up he can get through a lot of loo roll.

The one thing we have masses of is handwash. I was saying to dh we must get some and he went round the house looking in all the bathroom and toilet cupboards. Turns out that we have 6 unopened bottles as I buy them when they are on offer then they get shoved to the back of the cupboard.

I appreciate we are in a privileged position having a relatively large house but it surpribig how much stuff I've accumulated without realising just because I shop routinely for that sort of long life stuff without checking if we actually need it. So whereas I wouldnt buy bread or meat unless we needed it as I wouldn't want them to go to waste, I will buy toiletries and household stuff whenever it's on offer as I know we will use it at some point. Hence the multiple hand wash.

Pingu32 · 16/03/2020 05:40

No idea!

Miisty · 16/03/2020 06:05

Have 20 as can only use Andrex as
Sensitive to others Also buy for my daughter so make sure she has nappies water wipes etc as shelves were empty of pasta rice hand soap in Asda

Samlew89 · 16/03/2020 06:19

I got 5, local shop has stockpiled so they have plenty (apparently)
Struggling to get cow&gate follow on though!
2 hand-wash but not panicking as washing up liquid will break down the"fatty barrier" and enable you to scrub away virus if my Google news feed stories prove true!
Other people's panic hoarding making it difficult for the rest of us not to rugby tackle some one for a pack of nappies/wipes!!!!

alwaysneedgin · 16/03/2020 06:30

I have about 25 because I've been buying a 9 back with my weekly shop for the last fortnight instead of a 4, then we couldn't get a 9 this week but got a 12. We've stockpiled a little but have only bought one pack per week.

Prepenultimate · 16/03/2020 06:45

What is this? The cultural revolution? People denouncing themselves because they've got a few extra big rolls??
This situation has brought out the worst in humanity- and I'm NOT talking about the alleged panic buyers either. I'm talking about the vast number of utterly arrogant people who think they know best- better than scientists or the government. They believe they, themselves, know perfectly well how to deal with this entire situation and believe they have the right to tell other people how to feel and behave. They take to social media to call others cunts and morons and selfish if they don't have the same opinion.

megletthesecond · 16/03/2020 06:48
  1. Which isn't great as we get through a roll a day. I would do with a few more.
joffreyscoffees · 16/03/2020 07:00

7 rolls - 3 left over from a 28 pack I bought at the beginning of last month as part of a normal shop and I bought 4 the other day to top up. There is 2 of us who use it (DD in nappies - we have around 8 packets of wipes).

I'm going to order another pack of loo roll - probably 9 today as part of our normal shop. Mainly because it's payday and our big shop time again.

HeronLanyon · 16/03/2020 07:06

Possibly tmi but I’ve have just spectacularly forgotten that i need to be careful with amounts used. Thinking I need a sign next to loo roll holder !

Nomorewine77 · 16/03/2020 07:14

Only 2 Confused am hoping my local independent supermarket still have stock!

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 07:27

Like I said upthread, try Milk and More @nomorewine77. They have 9 roll packs still available.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/03/2020 07:32

I have also bought a couple of extra packs of tampons. Not because I think there will be a shortage but because I don't want to have to go into Boots (only place I can get brand I need) in the town centre if I can avoid it. It's a balancing act though as I'm in my mid 50s and don't know how much longer I'll be using them! I figure if i end up with packs not needed I can donate them to the foodbank.

Chocrock · 16/03/2020 09:26

@FlamingoAndJohn
Thank you I will try now!

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 09:35

Milk and More were the only place to get Oatly during the great Oatly drought a year or so ago. No one thinks to use them.
I got a delivery of washing up liquid, hand wash, tea bags and eggs this morning.

patricia1959 · 16/03/2020 09:50

I have a repeat order from Amazon pantry and my last drop of toilet rolls came about two weeks ago and I still have some left from the last order, so I have plenty. I wouldn't go out and panic buy loads of them even if I didn't have a stockpile.

Teddybear27 · 16/03/2020 09:50

About 20 and we all need to calm down about panic buying. The main supermarkets have all said there is enough of everything for everyone if we all just calm down and don't go mad buying stuff?

NemophilistRebel · 16/03/2020 10:02

Anyone have a milk and more referral code they want me to use?

NemophilistRebel · 16/03/2020 10:03

It’s a shame they don’t sell flour and formula.
