AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

@onegiftedgal

Get yourself into EBay, you’ll make a killing 😜

BengalGal · 15/03/2020 18:30

24 rolls, as usual. No handgel or wipes or gloves or masks. No extra food except a couple packs of pasta. Family of five.

anonME123 · 15/03/2020 18:31

currently around 100(ish) BUT bought before all the panic set in and ive been bulk buying my toilet roll for the last 5 years. Delivery is on a schedule which just happens to have fallen recently and ive some left from last order so i have a bit of an excess

OJZJ · 15/03/2020 18:33

Oh and I paid £10.50 for a box of paracetamol and a bottle of calpol as every bloody shop had run out and finally found some in a chemist...
I need to actually do a large food, cleaning and toiletries shop tomorrow and dreading it as attempted several times last week and walked out in protest due to empty shelves in every shop I went into.

firstimemamma · 15/03/2020 18:35

10 I think. Family of 3 with just me and fiancé who use the toilet.

Jocasta2018 · 15/03/2020 18:36

Got 13 - quite a lot for 2 people.
I mentioned to DP last week in passing that we needed more loo roll. He's getting a sarnie in Tesco's, spots a pack of 4 rolls so buys it. Same day, I'm getting veg from our local supermarket, see a few packs of 9 loo rolls, nab a pack & buy it. Later that evening we have an extra 13 rolls!
Good job too as the shelves were empty on Friday evening & this morning...

IntoTheUnkown · 15/03/2020 18:41
  1. Family of 5. We haven’t bought extra because of Coronavirus - we just get regular deliveries of the huge (48?) Who Gives a Crap boxes. We have very little paracetamol (and can’t find any in the local shops) so I’m considering bartering....
Florawest · 15/03/2020 18:49

Prob about 40, but have them in for awhile, because I always buy loads when they on the week end specials with Lidl, ( next Sat and Sun toilet roll half price, would want to get there as soon as shop opens 🤔)
same with wheetabix ( as teenage son eats 5 easily at a time) unfortunately wheetabix ( well Lidl equivalent) hasn't been on offer for a long time so very little wheetabix, I have freezer full food cos I can't resist buying reduced or food on special

Pritchyx · 15/03/2020 18:53

I have 5 rolls. A 4-pack and then a roll that hasn’t yet been used yet.

Youngest is in nappies (10mo) and eldest has finally learnt to not waste toilet roll (6yo) and then there is me. Small household and no men. It’s heaven.

Devlesko · 15/03/2020 18:55

About 24, I'm a prepper, not a panic buyer.
I also have a ton of paracetamol. Quite often buy a packet when I'm out.
Shelves were full when I prepped, around Nov time.

Onetimeprepper · 15/03/2020 18:56

A prepper never reveals.

Sarcelle · 15/03/2020 18:57

We had 5 left out of a pack of 9, bought a 16 pack we saw in a supermarket, so 21. I usually use a lot of toilet paper, but DH less so, so I have been less liberal. This should last us a while!

Bulbosaur · 15/03/2020 18:59

52 because I always buy the 26 packs from aldi and I got a pack the other day and my mum picked me up a pack the same day cause she knew I didn't have any. So I ended up with 2

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/03/2020 18:59

I'm beginning to think that some 'essential' toiletry and medicine items should be put on prescription so that the most needy get them for free but everyone else has to pay (and eliminates stockpiling). Loo roll would be on there and basic meds.

TiddyTid · 15/03/2020 19:01

Around 6. I have to self isolate for the next 7 days and people are going mad here buying toilet rolls. As long as they have more than they need though and £&@£ anyone else.

honeychild23 · 15/03/2020 19:02

We have 16! Just been buying my usual bi-weekly shop. Won't buy now for a couple of weeks, hopefully will have calmed down before we get to the last dregs!

Cupcakesandconkers · 15/03/2020 19:06

I have 3 rolls left. Can’t get any anywhere. We didn’t go out and panic buy or hoard as we were advised and asked nicely not to do so by the government.
However, that has now left us with 3 rolls as a family of 4 with a toddler that uses it like they are a Mummy at Halloween!

McCanne · 15/03/2020 19:08

2 x 12 packs. My husband bought one a few days after I did because he didn’t know I’d already bought them as they’d been left in the boot. We usually buy a 12 pack every few weeks and this was two weeks ago so it wasn’t anything unusual.

Rachel1874 · 15/03/2020 19:09

I had 9 before I done my big shop 2 weeks ago and I bought my usual 18 for the month. Think we have about 20 now. Haven't bought any since panic buying started.

northernlittledonkey · 15/03/2020 19:18

We’ve got about 25 large loo rolls, but only because we get them delivered every 3 months, next delivery due in 6 weeks.

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo · 15/03/2020 19:20

About 30 because we always buy in bulk. That said, we haven't tried to buy any more over the last few weeks. We don't need to buy more so haven't.

We also have the moist toilet paper wipes which we are now using to ration the bog roll. For a poo, two moist toilet wipes, folded sensibly and then folded again after wiping, replaces about 8 sheets of bog roll.

And if things get really bad then wash your bum thoroughly with soap and water, dry it with a towel and chuck the towel in the washing machine on a hot wash.

spiffing · 15/03/2020 19:20

Just one left here, family of 4. I went to try to buy some again this weekend but no luck anywhere, went to about 8 shops. More annoyingly, (but off the topic of TP) I had to have some sutures today the walk in centre after a nasty trip. I was advised to go get some co-dydramol for the pain, but there was none left at any pharmacies within 20 miles, the pharmacist said that people have been panic buying them too. I really need them!

cakewench · 15/03/2020 19:23

I guess the real question is, how much more loo roll than usual is in your house? Because you'd all probably be appalled at how much we normally have in stock, but it's one of those items you can never have too much of and definitely don't want to run out of. So we usually have a pack of 9 Aldi rolls upstairs, and one pack downstairs, as a minimum, but we currently have more because we each bought a pack independently of one another last week. We definitely fall in the 'prepper' category, though maybe not to the same extent as some others (no judgement, just observation! We're in the category of 'has water purification tablets' but not quite yet into 'has a fancy filtration device')

I buy tampons in much the same way; if I'm out and unsure of how many I have at home, but I know I'll need them soon, I buy another pack. I currently have 6 boxes of tampons. Hmm

FWIW, none of this is out of our normal shopping patterns. I also already had 2 spare bottles of hand soap at home, so didn't need to buy anymore. Dettol, wipes, and tissues also exist in abundance in our house (DH and DS are allergic to everything so tissue boxes are bought in bulk), but none of those things were purchased since CV.

Going by my past experience with panic buying (for blizzards, in my home country), I'd say people have just about hit peak buying, and if you're able to wait until tomorrow or the next day to get to a shop, you should have plenty of the essentials restocked (and not many people there fighting for them anymore, because they've already got a garage full)

Oli001 · 15/03/2020 19:24

we have 1 roll left (saving for visitors, if they come) now using kitchen roll!

amispeakingenglish · 15/03/2020 19:27

normal stash of around 50, just stocked up, big household and I always buy a lot at one time with money off vouchers. I have been buying Dettox all in one for YEARS and always have several in the house.
