AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

@LuckyLickitung

I think budget & storage are probably the reasons for the vast majority of people.

We’ve just moved house and finally have space to stockpile a little bit, though not much we can now buy for a month at a time instead of a week. But budget makes it very tricky to buy any more than that as it’s just too much money.

Solina · 14/03/2020 13:03

Between 35 and 40. I haven't counted though. We always have loads and I tend to buy more when we have about 8 or so left. Hate the idea of running out of it (have IBS).

I am the type of shopper that bulk buys anyways as I would rather just buy all the loo roll, toiletries, tinned beans/lentils/tomatos, salt, flour, condiments in one big go and not have to worry about them for a while. We only really shop for perishable items weekly.

fifig87 · 14/03/2020 13:05

Probably around 30, I got a huge amount on offer on Amazon before Christmas.

Someone I know has ridiculously stocked up and already had around 90 and went and bought 5 more packs this morning 😬😬. Just plain greed in that situation.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 14/03/2020 13:24

104 - I've just counted Shock

I did NOT stockpile: haven't bought any for a while. I usually buy a nine roll with my monthly shop but I keep storing it and forgetting it. But I remembered the last couple of times and didn't get any. There's only me so I'm pretty well sorted I think.

RozHuntleysStump · 14/03/2020 13:28

I dont know. I buy those 18 packs. I have one upstairs, and one downstairs both a few rolls in. We'll be OK for a while I'd say.

  1. Family of 7. I can only use 2 of them as I react to fragrance and most of them are fragrances. Lol.
Brefugee · 14/03/2020 13:48

about 170. We buy a box of 160 twice a year (bamboo they come in a big box only with no other packaging, and we get 4 packs of 360 tissues at the same time). Grin

I think it’s just different approaches to life isn’t it. The idea of buying toilet roll weekly seems absolutely mad to me, it’s way more expensive and you have to remember each week etc. I set up a subscription a few years ago and now I never ever need to think about toilet roll, I will never run out, it just turns up automatically. I can afford it and I have space to store it, I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t given budget & space. But then clearly some people think this approach is mad and would rather live dangerously with buying 4 rolls a fortnight 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

On a more practical note, our local fb groups are saying most of the smaller corner shops/ethnic supermarkets have lots of stocks in, its just the mainstream supermarkets that have empty aisles.

Madamfrog · 14/03/2020 14:19

French supermarkets do a special offer on looroll (usually 96 rolls for 20€) twice a year so I buy about 400 odd loorolls twice a year. I have a big family and room to keep them, that way I don't need to think about it.

SuperMeerkat · 14/03/2020 14:20

About 15. We’d bought a large pack about 2 weeks ago before all the loo roll mania set in and are working out way through them 😝

TerrorWig · 14/03/2020 14:22

I bought one of the big 24 packs (I think) last week. I could have waited another week as we had about 9 left but tbh I didn’t want to risk it.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 14/03/2020 14:38

100

Usually have 50 or so but I accidentally bought a pack 3/4 weeks ago as dh had hidden a pack while sorting the garbage

And two weeks ago dh panic bought a pack at the wholesalers as there was masses...and an offer on

Will run it down to 75 and try and keep it at that level for a while

Emmagen · 14/03/2020 14:40

About 30ish at the moment. We were down to half a roll in each loo mid week and had to hunt for any in the shops and finally found a 9 pack. I'm away next week but there will still be people in the house and I want to take 3 rolls, don't want to leave the people at home short so tried to find some more, tesco only had 24 packs and so we have a lot of toilet paper!

123bananas · 14/03/2020 14:41

80, but usually buy in bulk for my family of five monthly anyway and some are for my parents as there is none in the supermarkets around here.

Reginabambina · 14/03/2020 14:44

I have about a dozen left. Also from a big pack we bought ages ago. I’m not particularly concerned tbh, washing is cleaner anyway.

FabbyChix · 14/03/2020 15:17

40

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 14/03/2020 16:26

About 100, but that’s because I’m a prepper. Thank goodness, because I really wouldn’t want to get caught up in the panic buying now.

I have half a dozen boxes of tissues and about 20 large kitchen rolls.

Kittykatmacbill · 14/03/2020 16:27

Two times 18 packs with a couple from the previous 18 too. Slightly over stocked from normal.

emmetgirl · 14/03/2020 16:28

3.....Confused

Lippy1234 · 14/03/2020 16:56

42 and 19 bottles of wine!

LynseyLou1982 · 14/03/2020 16:58

Erm 11. An un-opened 9 pack and 1 in use in each toilet.

FraughtwithGin · 14/03/2020 17:00

16, one person household. No loo rolls when I went to shop today. Not especially concerned, other than that I am having to WFH for the next 2 weeks.
What worried or irritated me more was that there were no nice potatoes.

willowpatterns · 14/03/2020 17:04

Including the one actually on the holder - 11. And that's only because I wrote them on the shopping list in the kitchen, bought some on the way home from work, and so did DH because I forgot to take the list with me and he bought what was on the list as well Grin

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 14/03/2020 17:05

120, as went to Makro... As it was the only place we could get some and we had to buy wholesale.

vegansprinkle · 14/03/2020 17:06

@Lippy1234 I like your planning!

I did a big shop last week so have 40 toilet rolls plus a months supply of dry/tinned goods and toiletries. 6 person household.
