AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

11 I think. We bought our usual 9 pack when we went shopping and still had a couple left from the last one

Sainsbury's was decimated when DH went in for dog food last night though, he actually saw people stealing things from each others trolleys!

Rosebel · 14/03/2020 11:41

About 14 i think. Have some in upstairs bathroom and some downstairs. Running low on hand sanitizer though.

sleepingpup · 14/03/2020 11:41

Exactly, yet every single person claims that’s their normal amount and hasn’t panic bought any. Seems very strange to me to have as much as 100 in some cases

Nope. like I said @PumpkinP I "panic bought" 28 pack about 6 weeks ago.

It was me.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/03/2020 11:44

No wonder there's no toilet rolls when people have so many at their houses

It's because I always have loads in the house that I haven't had to buy any at all during the times that there is a run on them. I haven't caused any problem because I bought them when there was normal demand.

EggysMom · 14/03/2020 11:47

27 or 28 rolls. That's not unusual for us, we buy Nicki in their largest packs every couple of months and just shove it under the bed to store.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2020 11:50

Yes, it's me too. We last bought toilet rolls last year sometime, before anyone had heard of Corona so I'm definitely to blame.

flirtygirl · 14/03/2020 11:54

I usually stock up from Farmfoods offer so 54 every few weeks, but they have been low in my area since before Xmas.

I did my last stock up online from a bulk deal on Groupon. I have 125 rolls.

VanGoghsDog · 14/03/2020 11:56

Why the bloody hell are Waitrose allowing people to buy so many?

They could be buying for others, run a guest house etc.

The manufacturers have said there is plenty so it doesn't matter if people buy extra, the supply chain will catch up.

LuckyLickitung · 14/03/2020 11:58

Just over 70.
We buy the 40 packs from Costco and prematurely bought another pack about a month ago when cases were being picked up beyond China. By the time we need to restock again, buying patterns should be more stabilised and stocks improved.

Family of 4. Tendency and family history of IBS/ food allergies, so we do use it up more than average, particularly with a dyspraxic child who struggles with efficient technique.

I always have kept good stocks. In one student house, I was the only female to use the main bathroom with 6 males. I was above using the student newspaper and quickly learned that anything cheaper than own brand was a false economy. I used to take the loo roll in and out with me for every toilet trip. If I ever made the mistake of leaving on in there, it would be long gone quicker than you could say "panic buy", so I kept a decent stock and bought in 9s so that I had spare to account for misplacement wastage.

Aside from very restricted budgets and storage, I am surprised at the ratio of people that keep vulnerable low stocks of a long life item.

InglouriousBasterd · 14/03/2020 12:01

About 12 - I ran out last week, couldn’t find any anywhere until I happened upon a 4 pack in Sainsbury’s - coconut scented Envy - then had a food delivery where an actual normal 9 pack was delivered!!

flirtygirl · 14/03/2020 12:04

I never buy 4 or 9 per week as that works out expensive. I bulk buy on offer or online bulk purchases. The smallest quantity you can buy in the current best online offer is 60 rolls.

I also stock up on branded sauces, soap powder and Tuna, etc when on offer. I don't buy any if these things when not on offer.

LaCherriesJubilee · 14/03/2020 12:17

Where do you store 150 rolls?

Under the stairs. The space was empty anyway since my Marie Kondoing phase.

Like I said, I don't feel any guilt because I bought it all when there was plenty for everyone.

I'm happy to share if anyone in my life says they can't get any, it's not a secret. That said though, I'm mostly surrounded by "Brexiteers" who laughed their heads off at my Brexit preparations, so I'm not sure if their pride would allow them to ask...

LightAsTheBreeze · 14/03/2020 12:19

My toilet roll stash is in the gap next to the wardrobe piled high, it’s quite easy to stack 9 packs 2 deep

redcarbluecar · 14/03/2020 12:22

About 20, but I stockpile anyway!

Gemma2019 · 14/03/2020 12:25

I've got about 90 but only because I had some Groupon credit to use up and they were on offer.

soupey1 · 14/03/2020 12:26

About 30ish but we buy a large pack in Costco every few months so this is normal.

Notnowokay · 14/03/2020 12:26

Three, because tomorrow is our designated shopping day. Should I be stocking up?

sleepingpup · 14/03/2020 12:42

There is something lovely and comforting about a fresh pack of pristine loo rolls ( in white for me )

Something you can count on.
It works for me.

Gillian1980 · 14/03/2020 12:46

I haven’t counted but I think about 18??
We usually buy a 24 pack in our big shop after pay day (when I get cleaning stuff, nappies & wipes, cat food etc for the month) and that was a week ago.

I’m not overly concerned really. Worst case, if we self-isolate & run out then we can wash our bums quickly after the loo.

ClientQueen · 14/03/2020 12:46
  1. Last year my dad had a deal with a delivery company for his business and they offered him free toilet roll with every order so he said yes please. He now has 360 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but that's for his hotel
CeibaTree · 14/03/2020 12:47

We have around 20 rolls at the moment, but that's normal for us, as we get an Ocado delivery once every 3 weeks and I always add 2 nine packs to the order as they are usually on offer.

Fandoozle1 · 14/03/2020 12:48

18, but that is how much I usually buy. (Big family)

FAQs · 14/03/2020 12:53

9 - our local village shop is selling 2 and 4 packs to their regular customers, she also has pasta and hand wash! She is keeping it quiet though to make sure she looks after us all, in particular her elderly customers.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 14/03/2020 12:59

21...left over from 2 multipacks from Costco that I got last November....there are only 2 of us so unless something drastic happens, that should see us right for a while yet.

EasyLifer · 14/03/2020 12:59

8 in the cupboard and 3 already in each bathroom so 14 in total.

There was none in Tesco this morning but up until yesterday at least local shops have loads so it's worth looking in Bargain Booze or Nisa type shops if you have them.
