AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

*I love all these people who quote massive numbers of toilet rolls and every sentence has

X (ridiculous number of loo roll) but I’m not a panic buyer because.....

Hmm-mmm* 🧐🤔🤥

Ok, fine then. I panic bought a lot in december because of course I could forsee that there would be a pandemic or zombie apocolyps Hmm
Some people on here always bulk buy (it's cheaper) or are preppers. I do both. I haven't panic bought anything because I already had a stash. Not everyone is a panic buyer.

amaryl · 14/03/2020 10:35

Very surprised at how many people usually buy in bulk, did not know this was common

Hingeandbracket · 14/03/2020 10:37

23,000 - hasn't everyone?

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2020 10:37

Because ours comes from Costco and the minimum quantity they sell is 40 rolls. We buy it as an when we need it.

It's excellent quality, better than Andrex and the other big brand that I can't remember, and I think there's more sheets on a roll, so is even cheaper especially as it works out about 26 p a roll.

wonkylegs · 14/03/2020 10:39

47 we had a big box of Bumboo ones that was ordered a while back along with some hand soap all ordered in bulk to reduced plastic waste rather than as a panic buy
We also have full store cupboards and freezer but again that's fairly normal as I grew up with bugger all in the cupboards and now I like to be prepared for if I'm flaring and I'm too knacked for the weekly shop, which happens every few months
Only thing we are a bit short on is apple juice (kids are appalled we only have orange 🙄)

NeverTalksToStrangers · 14/03/2020 10:40

@MynameisJune I always like to have at least 10 loo rolls spare. 3 toilets. I have space to store them and buy large packs because of value. End of. If I see an online deal I get one. Not the first time, won't be the last.

LightAsTheBreeze · 14/03/2020 10:44

I always bulk buy from Amazon for this sort of stuff as I pay £79 a year for Prime so I am going to get my moneys worth.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2020 10:46

I'm more surprised that some people keep so little in the house.

If it's something like toilet roll that doesn't go off and you'realmost certainly always going to need, why would you ever buy the small packs that cost twice as much per roll as the bigger ones.

It's not just the people who are desperately short of money or space that do this, it seems like far more than that.

wishing4sun · 14/03/2020 10:48

7 household of 1 adult 1 teenager (he is being rationed lol ) could only get a 4 pack this morning from Asda got the last pack. They are limiting to 1pack per customer.

Howgreenwasmyvalley · 14/03/2020 10:50

I knew my habit of always having loads of toilet rolls would come in handy one day. I always bulk buy when they are on special offer anyway.

FakeCutlassesAreAGatewayWeapon · 14/03/2020 10:51

We usually buy a 24 pack as we are a large family and 2 of us have IBS. We also have about 4 rolls on the go at once. I generally restock when we get down to about 3 rolls.

We got down to 2 rolls and after 5 attempts managed to get 2 packs of 18 yesterday. That's plenty to last through until people chill out, even if supplies are disrupted for a few weeks.

Worriedmom2020 · 14/03/2020 10:51
  1. I'm a prepper, and I know how many cause I stock take my stores.
Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2020 10:52

I buy loads in bulk. It saves money. I got 30ltrs of soya milk the other day mail order from Holland Barrett half price and free delivery.

I never run out anymore and have to nip to the shops, which is a 10m round trip for us.

Handbag101 · 14/03/2020 10:59
  1. Tried to get some in my local Tesco this morning but the shelves were empty. Had to buy two packers of tissues instead and they were running out.
Tunnocks34 · 14/03/2020 11:05

14 roles. I always buy two 9 packs to get the offer of 2 for £7 at Tesco and did so about a week before this panic buying started.

ComeOnEileen11 · 14/03/2020 11:07

9 left from a pack of 12 in our last monthly shop before all this kicked off!
I'm not concerned, we use reusable wipes on our DC along with reusable nappies, so if we ended up running out, we'd have to use the reusable wipes too 😂
A 12 pack normally does us at least 2/3 months so it'll have blown over before then anyway!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/03/2020 11:07

I've got one left. Need to do a shop anyway tomorrow.

Vagndidit · 14/03/2020 11:14

I was smart enough to get a couple 16 packs of Andrex when they were on offer a few weeks ago. Still have 29 rolls left.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 11:23

No wonder there's no toilet rolls when people have so many at their houses.

Not the case at all.
I’ve got about 40 because I bulk by from Who Give a Crap. This is my normal buying pattern. I get it every school holidays because then I can be at home to get the delivery.
I got my last order at half term.
This was not panic buying. This was normal.

PumpkinP · 14/03/2020 11:27

Exactly, yet every single person claims that’s their normal amount and hasn’t panic bought any. Seems very strange to me to have as much as 100 in some cases Hmm

Phifedean123 · 14/03/2020 11:32

About 20 rolls atm that's only because I bought a 9 pack this morning. Everyone was getting one with their shop so they are probably sold out by now (again)

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 11:33

Here is the proof that it’s my usual amount.
I thought I’d bought it at half term, but it seems I bought it in the Christmas holidays. I’ve still got loads left though.

Wannabangbang · 14/03/2020 11:35

16 but I have a big family

ChocolateQuiltedShitPig · 14/03/2020 11:35

3 rolls, none in shops. Ah well

BlackeyedSusan · 14/03/2020 11:35

Lots. Disability means we get through more than average. Not bought us any since half term though. Bought ex some as I use his loo a lot. (Close to kids school)
