AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

I’m genuinely amazed that some people use so little loo roll!
There are 8 people in my house (2 babies so don’t use loo roll) and we can easily get through 9-12 rolls a week Blush
We have a quite a few rolls stashed in various cupboards, probably 30ish but honestly that would last us no time at all

I was told that Waitrose felt that they would have people stating they were buying for an elderly friend, old Mum etc and don’t feel comfortable policing this.

Honestly - what would you feel if you went to do some shopping for your parents and we’re told you couldn’t buy for both families and that policies are policies? The rule is fine until you find it messes up what you are genuinely trying to do. Of course there are the selfish scammers who would say they are doing two lots of loo roll shopping (and aren’t!).

Hand gels are different and having seen a selfish bitch taking all the hand gels in a box a few days ago I am not sure there is a straightforward answer to loo roll!

WeMustGetOffTheMountain · 14/03/2020 09:33

22, but that’s just from a 24 pack that I bought when I did my big shop on Sunday where I get the month’s cleaning stuff, washing powder etc.

Mrsfrumble · 14/03/2020 09:34

1.5. We’re living on the edge! Grin
Got an Ocado shop arriving on Monday with another 9 rolls. We only have one loo anyway.

Bathroom12345 · 14/03/2020 09:35

For people who wonder how people use so little and that sons/daughters use loads. Well I am afraid that they need to rethink their usage. It really isn’t difficult. We are in unchartered territory and will all need to make some adjustments.

londonrach · 14/03/2020 09:35

I normally have two basket loads under the sink...at the moment ive just the one so plenty but normally id have bought more to replace but no rolls anywhere

EugenesAxe · 14/03/2020 09:37

I use Who Gives A Crap, so actually had a lot before all this kicked off. About 25? Luckily they are managing supplies to fulfil the regular deliveries of their existing subscribers, so we should be OK. If we aren’t self-isolating though, asking them to leave the box on the porch will be riskier!

Oblomov20 · 14/03/2020 09:37

24
That's the norm.
Had 3 in the upstairs bathroom and toilet, 3 in the downstairs toilet. Dh bought an 18 pack yesterday.

Sandytoesfrecklednose · 14/03/2020 09:41

We’ve got about 6. Family of four who normally buy a 9 roll pack a week. Live in a medium sized town that seems to have plenty of things at the moment. Apart from the local Asda which seems to attract people who buy full shelves of everything. I work in a school and I’m more worried about whether they’ll close early or not. So many vulnerable families who already struggle to make ends meet without having to think of buying enough supplies for a prolonged period without a FSM for their kids each week day.

bellinisurge · 14/03/2020 09:42

A fair bit. Bought slowly over several months. I'm a general prepper. It's what we do. No panicking, no need to. Difference between prepping and panicking.

But I also have are alternative plans. In the unlikely event that stores run out - which I doubt they will.
And the slightly less unlikely possibility that we are too poorly to go to the shops even in designated time slots or whatever and deliveries are not as reliable what with the vans being driven by people.
I have MS. Lots of loo roll goes with my particular territory.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 14/03/2020 09:42

I had to buy a load ( for work ) from Amazon, guess where they came from.... Italy Grin !!!!

supadupapupascupa · 14/03/2020 09:53

Have about 15 left and then reordered my who gives a crap box of 48. No panic buying just as normal

hazeyjane · 14/03/2020 09:54

45, but 10 are going over to my mum's today with the shopping we did for her yesterday.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 14/03/2020 09:54
  1. I counted them last night! Before anyone accuses me of panic buying selfishness, I bought them in bulk on Groupon last year.
Veru · 14/03/2020 09:58

A five to six month supply, I buy a years supply in Costco every year (for lots of things not just bog roll!) and last did that in early September.

Notso · 14/03/2020 10:01

Annoyingly we go to Costco every three months and are due to stock up this week. I think we have 8 unopened rolls and 6 opened ones.
Also running low on tinned tomatoes, pasta and beans. I don't know whether to bother going because I'll look like a panic buyer and there isn't likely to be what I need Hmm

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2020 10:04

I have 90. Bought them in feb from Costco.

wendz86 · 14/03/2020 10:06

11- only me and two little ones so we don’t get through that much but I’ll be working at home for a while now so might get through more .

KahlanRahl · 14/03/2020 10:07

40? I always buy around 80 anyway because DH has a preference for certain loo roll that isn't stocked in our local supermarket. So while we're driving to the next town to just get loo roll I buy lot's of it at any one time. Always have done.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 14/03/2020 10:12

72 plus maybe 5 from old packet and probably 6 half rolls between the 3 toilets.

The 72 wasn't panic buying but an amazon deal I got a hukd alert for about 2 weeks ago. 72 rolls of andrex for £24.

I am surprised about how long people are saying a roll does them? Dh doesn't use the ensuite, just me, and I probably go through 1 roll a week. More during period. So for a family of 4 we probably use 6 rolls a week?

TheFuzzyStar · 14/03/2020 10:13
  1. Two packs of 9.
MadameBee · 14/03/2020 10:13

MynameisJune · 14/03/2020 10:24

I love all these people who quote massive numbers of toilet rolls and every sentence has

X (ridiculous number of loo roll) but I’m not a panic buyer because.....

Hmm-mmm 🧐🤔🤥

maddiemookins16mum · 14/03/2020 10:27

About 2/3 of a pack of our normal 12 are in the bathroom (but I have a pack of 9 in my boot).
We’re doing a ‘self isolating’ shop (just in case) later tonight (budget is £60) and will hopefully pick up a pack of nine or 12. We normally only use about 4 a week between us 3. I’m not getting any more than that.
