AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

I also bought many tissues and kitchen rolls at the same time so haven't had to buy those either.

Saves money buying in bulk at the right time and also free delivery

Sceptre86 · 14/03/2020 07:21

We have 36 loo rolls (2 packs of 18). They are part of our normal stash that we bought last year. We are a family of two adults and two toddlers with the youngest in nappies so we don't get through too much but I always replace one pack as soon as it finishes. The minimum we have is always 36 just in case I have family that come to stay unexpectedly (which is quite often).

StepAwayFromGoogle · 14/03/2020 07:21

@Eireni - don't be obtuse. It doesn't matter if you call it stockpiling or panic buying, does it? It has the same effect.

FenellaMaxwell · 14/03/2020 07:22

same as usual - pack in the bathroom, spare pack in the cupboard.

Fluffybutter · 14/03/2020 07:22
  1. Can’t get any anywhere ffs.
We have 3 toilets so always buy a pack of 9 every 3 weeks or so .
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/03/2020 07:27

I counted over 20 the other day.
No panic buying - dh always buys the mega-packs so we were well stocked anyway.

My corner shop had loo rolls yesterday. The bloke in front of me at the counter was well pleased.

adaline · 14/03/2020 07:32

@stepawayfromgoogle it's not panic buying of it's part of your usual routine. We buy a bulk pack of 24 from ALDI once a month because a) it's cheap and b) we don't go there often as it's a 90 minute round trip so we buy the biggest pack they have each time.

If I'd been seen buying that today people would have assumed I was panicking when in fact it's what I normally do. Not the same thing at all Hmm

Butterwhy · 14/03/2020 07:32

@StepAwayFromGoogle there is a difference, panic buying is buying an abundance at one time, usually when others are doing similar, causing issues with supply. Stockpiling is ensuring you have supplies in, either by adding a few extra bits to a weekly shop when no issues so they are replenished without any problems; or bulk buying, again, when supply is fine so not causing issues with the supply chain. If you have a stockpile that isn't related to panic buying, you aren't buying things now that it's an issue which means more for others.

75, I always order in bulk and it just happened that it coincided with the Coronavirus.....Wink

Joking, I have 9. May have to limit the family to two squares per wee, four-six per poo and noses will have to be blown into tshirts! After that, they’ll get the hose...Grin

Teenagemaw · 14/03/2020 07:33

I have 435 toilet rollsGrin

Scruffyoak · 14/03/2020 07:34

About 50

doadeer · 14/03/2020 07:35

Loads, about 60 rolls. I have a subscription to "who gives a crap" and they arrive every 3/4 months in a huge box. I really recommend it

HowlsMovingBungalow · 14/03/2020 07:35

9 rolls which will last us a month at least.

Hagbeth · 14/03/2020 07:35

About 80 rolls. We always have this. I buy Buy one get one free 24 packs and I always double up.

OhMsBeliever · 14/03/2020 07:39

9 I think. There's 6 of us so they won't last long. I usually buy about 12 a week, but have been struggling to find any. I will be at Tesco later so will see if they have any today, they were all out when I went at the beginning of the week.

CuteOrangeElephant · 14/03/2020 07:41
  1. I accidentally forgot to cancel my Who Gives A Crap order because I didn't think we'd need so many before our international move.

That was a fortunate mistake!

  1. No shortage round here.
Broadwayb · 14/03/2020 07:44

Seven. I am a single mum with no car so have to buy the packs of 4 because I can’t carry the larger ones home with the rest of my shopping. I’m worried that I’m not going to be able to get any more when I need them because people have been panic buying. I couldn’t panic buy even if I wanted to.

LightAsTheBreeze · 14/03/2020 07:44

There are still a few bulk packs on Amazon but a lot have got very expensive, there is the odd cheaper one, to be expected on Amazon though as the whole website pricing is very much supply and demand.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 07:47

It doesn't matter if you call it stockpiling or panic buying, does it? It has the same effect.

No it doesn’t. I buy stuff, stockpile, when there is plenty, when I’m not leaving anyone else short.
Then when the panic buying starts I’m not contributing to it.

Verily1 · 14/03/2020 07:47

About 20, we go through a lot so that won’t last more than 2/3 weeks.

Lovemornings · 14/03/2020 07:49

Probably about 200, all bought before October last year so the supermarkets could replenish in time for Brexit. Won’t need any more for a long time and expect to redistribute if the shop loo roll situation gets worse!

TroysMammy · 14/03/2020 07:49
  1. There are 2 of us and we buy a pack of 18 when there's 2 left over from the previous purchase. rolls

I was joking with a colleague the other day if we did run out of toilet rolls I'd cut up old clothes, wipe my bum with the long grass in the garden or use the cat to wipe myself Grin.

polarfrogs · 14/03/2020 07:50
