AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

Family of 4, 9 rolls that we buy every week.

Butterwhy · 14/03/2020 06:52

About 80 as I buy in bulk as it's cheaper online, bought last December and have been giving some to family and neighbours, but haven't needed to add to the demand.

Ruby1991 · 14/03/2020 06:53

I have 32.

I went to sainsburys early a few days ago and grabbed two 16 packs. Its not because im panic buying but at the rate that people are cleaning the shelves i dont want to end up searching high and low when i do actually need some.

Its only me and my daughter so this will last us a good few weeks at least especially as half the time we are at work/school. Plus there were plenty on the shelves.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 14/03/2020 06:53

The amount of people on here who have been stockpiling! You are the bloody problem! Nobody needs 100 loo rolls FFS. There was an elderly man in Sainsbury's the other day really upset and confused that he couldn't get hold of any basics. Hope you are all feeling really smug and superior at the problems you have created.

jenesuisplus · 14/03/2020 06:54
  1. I couldnt read my own handwriting and bought T.Roll in my usual 24 pack instead of the K.Roll I actually wanted.
Jessie9323 · 14/03/2020 06:55

I got nappies fine from my Tesco yesterday. We got a 24 pack of toilet roll a couple of weeks ago (as normal) and still have about half left. We use reusable wipes for our son so they aren't an issue for us.

Isthistrueor · 14/03/2020 06:57

Ten left from a 24 pack. Six in the household so we get through quite a lot and will need more today when we go food shopping, just hoping they haven’t all sold out. Panic buying idiots.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 07:01

The amount of people on here who have been stockpiling!

Has anyone said they’ve been stock piling?
I always bulk buy online. I usually have between 10 and 40 rolls.

CroissantsAtDawn · 14/03/2020 07:01

We ve always bulk bought everything and now the schools are closed (France) I have no regrets about being prepped. I reckon we have at least 5 weeks of 4 of us being in the flat most of the time so we need food, loo rolls and cleaning supplies.

greytminds · 14/03/2020 07:02

We ordered a big box from Who Gives a Crap before the stockpiling hysteria started. Not remotely intentional but the minimum order is 48 rolls, so we have quite a lot.

If you feel you have to stock pile (not that I would encourage it) then doing so whilst supporting an ethical small business that donates half its profits to charity is better than nabbing the last rolls off the shelf at your local supermarket and depriving others.

Lolly86 · 14/03/2020 07:03

We have 11 here. I did my usual weekly shop and they should last a couple.of weeks

Northernsoullover · 14/03/2020 07:03

I have around 30. I am definitely stockpiling. However I have stockpiled ever since we had a bout of norovirus 7 years ago and my attitude was more relaxed. It was no fun eking out 2 loo rolls! I don't panic buy either. I buy a 9 pack every week.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 14/03/2020 07:04

@FlamingoAndJohn - 100 loo rolls IS stockpiling unless you are running a sodding hotel.

Sharpandshineyteeth · 14/03/2020 07:05

I normally buy 9 at a time and wait until
I’m down to the last 3 before buying more. But this time I have bought another pack of 9 when I have about 7 left as I saw them in aldi.

mountainofdreams · 14/03/2020 07:07

About fifteen or sixteen left for a family of three.

BlueJava · 14/03/2020 07:10
  1. Bought a new pack this week in the weekly shop as we were down to half a dozen. That's what I'd normally do, so no change.
KatherineJaneway · 14/03/2020 07:11

The amount of people on here who have been stockpiling!

This was the toilet roll shelves in my local Tesco on Wednesday (hopefully pic attached). Is it any wonder people are buying extra rolls just in case there are none the next time they go shopping?

No, we’re really not. The problem is people who have suddenly bought more than they usually would because of this crisis - that is panic buying, even if you’re only panic buying because other people are panic buying! Those of us that always keep larger stocks in than the average household (and I genuinely didn’t realise how few rolls some people keep in - I would feel so anxious if I had single figures of TP in the house - MH issues I admit), we have not added to the sudden surge in demand because of people panicking in the current situation. I never even buy TP from supermarkets anyway, it’s bulk online Amazon/WGAC/Costco etc. In fact if everyone was more prepared to be self sufficient in a crisis then there wouldn’t be so much panic buying leading to current shortages. That’s not meaning to criticise people who only keep in low stocks, it’s an individual decision and many people would not be able to prep anyway for various reasons.

Nobody needs 100 loo rolls FFS
Not immediately, but it’s not like they’re not going to be used and go out of date. They’re the ideal item to bulk buy & keep stocked on.

Hope you are all feeling really smug and superior at the problems you have created.
Save your shaming for the panic buyers please.

adaline · 14/03/2020 07:13

Eighteen or so. We bought our usual 24 pack from ALDI two weeks ago.

Which is good as there is absolutely none left in our town - the nearest place that has toilet paper is probably a 40 minute drive 😂

SarahInAccounts · 14/03/2020 07:14

We buy them in packs of 24. We have one unopened and 5 or 6 loose.

We buy a new pack when we have used up an old one so we never have less than 24. We use it instead of tissues as well.

Zisforstripyoss · 14/03/2020 07:16

I always have a stash of bog roll anyway, so I'm not stockpiling. I've not bought any for a few weeks now. I have 2 x 18 packs unopened and I have about 4 left in the packet we've got on the go. I have IBS, so I need it!

Springishere2020 · 14/03/2020 07:17

eight individual toilet rolls, and I won't be rushing out to buy more for a few days. When I do it will just be one pack. If anyone has left me any.

LightAsTheBreeze · 14/03/2020 07:17

I bought my 150 or so rolls last year from Amazon on Prime day or sometime like that so have not had to buy any recently so that is more for other people who need them.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 07:18

100 loo rolls IS stockpiling unless you are running a sodding hotel.

Not if you live in a remote area likely to get snowed in or even on a good day be a long drive from a shop.
Or have a very large family.

There is a huge difference between always having that much in stock for just this situation and panic buying.
If you always have a good stock of basics like loo roll then you aren’t the one causing the problem clearing the shelves when stick starts running low in situations like this.
Long term stock piling isn’t the problem. Panic buying is.
