AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

I have 3 toilets - I'd say there are a couple of rolls in each so 6 in the house. I buy a 9 pack probably every other week. I refuse to panic buy because I wouldn't want to be a selfish twat.

Eireni · 14/03/2020 07:57

don't be obtuse. It doesn't matter if you call it stockpiling or panic buying, does it? It has the same effect.
I’m not being obtuse Grin stop being so bloody rude and hard of understanding.
It’s the change in buying habits that causes shortages. Those of us that always keep a large supply in for whatever reason, have not changed our buying habits.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/03/2020 07:59

About 10 rolls - I was hoping to get a big pack but haven't managed to find any in stock the last few times I've been out.

ivfbabymomma1 · 14/03/2020 08:00

A pack of 9!

Snorkelface · 14/03/2020 08:04

34 - and 40 bin bags, 4 tubes of toothpaste, 14 bottles of shower gel etc. We stock up on everything on a deal in January, the aim being to try and get a year's worth of everything. Round these parts the big supermarkets look like a truck's driven through them, the smaller branches, Tesco Express etc, are fully stocked.

MrsKingfisher · 14/03/2020 08:06

How long exactly do people think they'll be isolated for to account for the clearing of shelves?!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/03/2020 08:06

I naturally stockpile. I buy when on offer and keep my special toilet paper and tissue cupboard stocked (this came with the house and is built-in above a toilet in the ensuite). This normally has 6x9 packets in (and often I fit another 4 packets in the linen cupboard too). I am down to 42 rolls. This is low for me. Normally, I'd be looking out for cheaper prices to buy another 4 or so packs.

I also have 16 packets of tissues - and have not panic bought or 'prepped'. I normally have 16 boxes of tissues. Again, I buy when on offer.

Usually, I also have at least 2 spare boxes of bio detergent ALWAYS bought when cheap. I bought an extra two yesterday for the first time ever not on offer because this is the only stuff that does not bring me out in a rash.

I also usually have at least four spare bottles of washing-up detergent.

Dishwasher has met its maker, but the same story would normally apply to tablets.

I always have a fridge section (meant for dairy) full of analgesics because I live alone and if I'm sick I can't get out to buy when needed. I keep other medications and vitamins stockpiled too - often bought online in bulk with cheap or free postage.

I do all the above because we grew up poor and it is simply how I learned to do things. Until she stopped living independently my Mother would seek out what was on offer that she used and buy multiple packs - loo roll, cheese, tissues, gravy powder, sugar, porridge oats and so on. That's what I do too.

MasakaBuzz · 14/03/2020 08:07

I have about 54 - more by accident than anything. I was running low, so bought a 9 pack, when I had access to a car. Then had put a pack on Amazon subscribe and save to tip the pet food order into the 15% off category. There is only me, so will share them with friends if needed.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 14/03/2020 08:09

Wilko sell a pack of 32 and I have one of these packs unopened in the larder. I have three bathrooms and each probably has 3 to 4 rolls in at the moment. I also have 4 packs of moist loo wipes which are preferred by my son.
I did pick up an additional 16 pack but I am going to post these to a family member who lives in an area where panic buying seems to be taking over and he is not well enough to go on a multi store loo roll hunt.

redandwhite1 · 14/03/2020 08:09

We always get ours from Costco and bought some this week as we were low so currently have 5 packs of 9 and about 3 in the bathroom

Won't need more for at least 2 months and won't get anymore until then as this is the norm

6 in household (mostly adults). Maybe 10 rolls in house right now.
That's a ~10 day supply. I'll grab some when I'm out later if I can find.
It's fine... we have rags! Can set up an impromptu bidet if required, I guess.

Same here Spartacus I don't think I have ever bought cleaning products, pet food, tea or coffee, toiletries, toilet roll, beans, snack food like cereal bars, crisps etc, soup or several other things full price or in single packs. We just buy these on offer to keep a manageable stock in and probably save 30-50% this way. It doesn't have to cost a lot or take up a lot of room.

If we run low, I just look for a new offer or am flexible about what brand I buy. It's only when other people all massively change their behaviour at the same time that it causes an issue - eg we are getting to the point where we need another pack of toilet roll from Costco, but when I went the other day, there were none at all available, just a massive empty corner in the warehouse.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 14/03/2020 08:20

@Doggodogington
75, I always order in bulk and it just happened that it coincided with the Coronavirus.....

Exactly!!! I don't know anyone who bulk buys toilet roll normally. Coronovirus hits and all of a sudden it's what MNs do all the time. Really?!

MrsClatterbuck · 14/03/2020 08:23

Around 50 here Blush but I bought a pack of 32 Cushelle in Tesco for £10.50 a couple of weeks ago before the panic as it was such a good offer. I was still using the last pack of 32 but now DH is retired as well as me we seem to use a lot more. Especially me as I seem to want to pee every time I walk past the downstairs loo. I was in Tescos yesterday and I saw people walking around carrying packs of 24 Cushelle looking very pleased with themselves and probably scared of being mugged for themGrin The loo shelves were empty. I did get my mum some in a shop near me. They had loads.

Enterthewolves · 14/03/2020 08:26

We do ‘who gives a crap’ so have about 45 as we had a delivery in Feb when we were down to about 4. I also buy some things in bulk - washing up liquid, shampoo, shower gel, san pro, laundry detergent - but that’s because I get it online from ethical superstore to minimise plastic waste and the cost of buying hippy stuff! We haven’t bought any of the above from local supermarkets.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 14/03/2020 08:26

I thought most people bulk buy loo roll as everyone I know does. Why would Wilko stock a 32 pack if no one bought it?

anon2020202020 · 14/03/2020 08:27

I have 48 roughly.

I can't find kitchen roll anywhere.

Hippopotas · 14/03/2020 08:27

About 38 cause last week we needed loo roll and popped to Costco and they sell in a 40 pack.

10 maybe? We do have a ridiculous number of loos though.

bloodywhitecat · 14/03/2020 08:31
  1. Because my 6 monthly delivery of 48 rolls from Who Gives a Crap came this week.
MissBax · 14/03/2020 08:31

I've got 14 but only because me and DH both bought one average pack each not realising the other was also buying some, definitely not panic buying as it's not unfair for everyone else.

MissBax · 14/03/2020 08:31

Not fair*
