China have contained virus within 7 weeks

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 15:54

And they had far more cases than us. Why are we being told that it is too hard to contain the virus when we have far less cases as a starting point?

Any links to read please?
China always seem to be the best at most things!

peachgreen · 13/03/2020 15:59

The measures they were able to take would not be possible or acceptable here.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:00

Sorry no links. But they let it get out of control and did nothing. Then when they took action it showed that you can contain the virus. Cases are falling dramatically.

China have imposed restrictions in a way that would be totally unacceptable over here.

The suspicion is that they will see a resurgence of the virus as they lift restrictions.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:01

@peachgreen Of course they are possible to do. It would be hard, but possible.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 13/03/2020 16:02

They locked down when the virus had peaked.
It isn't even close to that here. It's too soon.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:02

The virus mutates. We will see a resurgence here as well of a mutated virus. But we will have less deaths as a lot of the very vulnerable will already be dead.

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:03

Yes they locked down when the virus had peaked. They say they should have done it much sooner.
And that makes sense. Lockdown early and you need to lockdown for far less time.

anothernewone · 13/03/2020 16:04

They shut people in their homes for 2 weeks, and opened them up to collect the bodies- hardly a route I hope the uk follows

MaomiMak · 13/03/2020 16:04

China always seem to be the best at most things

As long as you don't mind living under a totalitarian government with an appalling human rights record.

When are you moving?

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 13/03/2020 16:07

Yes, they should have locked down earlier - they left it too late. But that doesn't mean that this is the time for us yet. Germany and Spain are locking down at around 3000 cases. We are at 800.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:07

That is not true, China gave people medical treatment. That is why people in their 90s and even 100 have recovered. Please don't post false facts.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:08

@StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight We have stopped testing all but hospital cases. We have a lot more cases than that.

Call me a cynic but I'd like to know if the WHO has verified the Chinese numbers.

Because the Chinese government's reputation for honesty is not exactly stellar. I'd love to know what's going on in those out of the way places where they don't encourage foreign journalists, like Xinjiang.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:17

Yes WHO have. They thought at first there were more cases, but after being on the ground they have said China's figures are very accurate.
It is the UK figures that are totally inaccurate. Kept low so it does not impact the economy.

Reginabambina · 13/03/2020 16:18

I would assume it’s because Chinese people know that they’ll be shot if they don’t obey orders. The memory of SARS is also valuable in the implementation of strict social distancing rules. That would never fly in Britain. Besides, what now? Are they going to prevent people from coming in altogether until the pandemic is over?

Reginabambina · 13/03/2020 16:19

@DettolsYourFriend yes, especially genocide! They’ve been getting away with it for years!

BogOffWinter · 13/03/2020 16:20

the Chinese government bans the freedom of speech yet we’re supposed to believe it’s contained and they’re the best? Aye right.

Bluntness100 · 13/03/2020 16:22

The issue with China is they are unsure if when they lift the restrictions they may have a resurgence.

However listening to the who press conference it seems they support China’s aggressive stance which means they do not agree our approach. They basically want countries to take an aggressive stance, turn the tide, and have it peak sooner rather than later, the total, opposite of what the Uk is doing.

Butterwhy · 13/03/2020 16:22

It will be interesting to see what happens when the restrictions are relaxed. It only takes one infected person for it to run rampant again, and people here can't seem to go 7 days without going outside for a run, so not much hope that people would be selfless enough to adhere to restrictions for 7 weeks.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:23

I trust WHO. If they say Chinas numbers are right, they are right.

We have freedom of speech here but the UK numbers are a vast vast underestimate.
Strange decision to trust Boris over WHO when Boris is lying to your face.

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:25

And the virus has already mutated once. It will reemerge in the UK.

LuluJakey1 · 13/03/2020 16:28

What will happen when people go back to their eating habits in the wild animal markets where it started? We should not be conned that these have closed down - it is ingrained in parts of the culture. Just yesterday there was a report of businessmen encouraging people to celebrate eating dogs as part of showing their pride in the culture.

Butterwhy · 13/03/2020 16:29

If they say Chinas numbers are right, they are right.

This is extremely naieve. WHO can give advice without the burden of reality, they don't have to consider anything beyond the virus itself.

NaturalBornWoman · 13/03/2020 16:32

Of course they are possible to do. It would be hard, but possible.

Have you seen the thread where they're all saying it'll be impossible to even stay in for 7 days? How do you propose enforcing a lockdown lasting weeks in a democracy where we generally don't go around welding people into their homes?
