It seems to be increasing pretty quickly, a week ago it was at like 100-200.

I live in Spain. Very worrying indeed. But I guess it was just a matter of time. We are in a very touristy area and so far, no checks done at the airport. Haven't had the supermarket wipeouts like in the UK though, hope it won't come to that.

GirlInTheDirtyShirt · 09/03/2020 21:50

I live in Valencia and we’re still holding massive events and crowding into the city centre each day to watch the mascletà. People are generally either a bit worried or not bothered. No stockpiling or panic buying yet.

Nameisthegame · 09/03/2020 21:56

Yeah no panic buying here in coruna, but not really cases nearby they mostly seem to be in Madrid, basque and. Catalyunia

I was wrong Madrid has shut down schools.... english.elpais.com/society/2020-03-09/madrid-basque-city-close-schools-as-coronavirus-continues-spread-in-spain.html

I overheard someone say today that the reason why people aren't worried here in Alicante is because the weather is warmer and we have the sea breeze.. didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Is there any truth in this?

Nameisthegame · 10/03/2020 13:34

Not sure, they do think it won’t be as bad in the summer but I don’t know the science. Lleida now has a confirmed case and the English schools are saying if they shut they won’t be paying the teachers.

Any ‘local’ knowledge on what the situation is in Malaga / Andalusia?

Nameisthegame · 10/03/2020 14:02

500 new cases today 😬 I’m guessing there’s more cases than the government has been letting on as yesterday was 1000

Alcampo here in Alicante has empty shelves now. Guess the panic is setting in. I'm off to do a bulk buy later today. Eek.

Nameisthegame · 10/03/2020 15:46

My MIL is near Alicante and was due to come home at the end of the month. I think that is too late and that she might not get home of she leaves it that late.

Nameisthegame · 11/03/2020 00:36

Lleida in Spain , not really in the news but they seem to be heading towards a shut down. Crazy buying, cleaning of all classrooms and talks of shutting schools it seems they won’t be paying the English language teachers if they close. I can’t see how that would be fair tbh

I see Fallas in Valencia has been cancelled. We are due to fly out next week but looks like we will cancel now. It's very bad news for Spain.

Nameisthegame · 11/03/2020 15:36

Another 700 cases today this is spreading so quickly!

Spain now has a avoid travel warning ⚠️! And France has over taken us on numbers

Does anybody know if there is an actual travel/flight ban in Spain? DH has to go to Tenerife today for work and I'm worried his 5 day stay will turn into weeks...
Here in Alicante there's definitely a hike in mask-wearers and glove-wearing as well. On a lighthearted note, saw a women at carrefour stockpiling 20 bottles of shampoo! Priorities I guess Wink

MissMoiselle · 12/03/2020 11:02

Edit: saw a woman at carrefour
