I'm in Andalucía, the situation seems to be changing very fast here! Lots of panic buying in the shops this evening as people start to isolate.

BillieEilish · 14/03/2020 00:58

Semana Santa cancelled in Oliva (town outside Valencia) tourismo told me on facebook!

BillieEilish · 14/03/2020 00:59

Situation is indeed changing super fast.

MissMoiselle · 14/03/2020 09:44

Jet2 flights bound for Malaga and Alicante have turned around. Either Boris or Pedro will make an announcement soon maybe?

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 10:14

Semana Santa in Seville is in doubt, they are going to confirm next week, but I think they'll cancel it.

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 10:16

The king and queen were tested but negative. They were tested because the queen had been at an event with Irene Montero, who has tested positive. Pablo Iglesias is self isolating after Montero tested positive and I think the parliament has been suspended temporarily or at least in person?

MissMoiselle · 14/03/2020 10:56

Handsome Pedro to address the nation at 2pm.

The80sweregreat · 14/03/2020 11:04

Why can't our prime minister look like Pedro? 😀
Is he sensible ? What do you think he will say?

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 11:04

Is he? OK, sounds like more stringent measures to be anounced maybe?

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 11:05

I expect he'll impose more strigent lockdown or announce economic measures to protect the economy. Wouldn't you say?

The80sweregreat · 14/03/2020 11:17

I'll watch out for updates.

BirdandSparrow · 14/03/2020 11:30

I think it's to announce the specific powers of the state of emergency that they've agreed in the council of ministers

Friends near Antequera say all bars and most shops in lockdown down

MissMoiselle · 14/03/2020 11:44

@BirdandSparrow feast your eyes Wink

DH still in Tenerife, says hotel guests are panicking. People are very unhappy about their flights being cancelled (hello, Twitter) but I think it's the right call.
Some serious police/military presence around the country, particularly cities on a strict lockdown.
Eerily calm here in Alicante, apart from the chaos in the supermarkets.
I think Pedro will emulate Italy's decision to go complete lockdown. Wouldn't be surprised if all coastal tourist areas will follow suit with Murcia, not letting anyone in or out. This is due to the fact that when Madrid started spiralling out of control, a lot of people decided to take a vacation on the coast, and therefore spreading the virus.
Good luck putting Benidorm on lockdown though, I'm afraid it's not going to be easy to contain all holidaymakers out there. Expecting chaos.

Well all bars are shut here in Gandia. Nobody on the streets.

I will venture to the shops after the weekend, maybe Tuesday, when they have restocked?

People here are VERY annoyed about people from Madrid coming to their holiday homes and infecting us all potentially. So am I to be honest.

I didn't factor in to the equation that the opera singer above me is also confined to her flat. Angry (Long history of complaints) the noise is in every room, very, very loud and repetitive. If she starts practising her flute (3 hours a pop) I will go mad.

How will that work with DD's lessons?

How is everyone else?

MissMoiselle · 14/03/2020 12:27

@BillieEilish the Opera singer Angry made me laugh, thank you! You can always bribe her, asking her not to sing/play the flute in exchange for canned goods or loo roll Wink

MissMoiselle · 14/03/2020 12:30

Former Spanish PM Aznar also escaped Madrid to enjoy his mansion in Marbella. The mind boggles. Here in Alicante we have a lot of holiday homes owned by Madrilenes, so I'm definitely staying put, apart from walking my dogs.

elQuintoConyo · 14/03/2020 12:47

I'm near Barcelona. The streets are so eerie. The only places open are pharmacies and supermarkets. They've been ok so far but this morning panic buying has really ramped up.

As a silver lining, 8yo DS received a bunch of Christmas gifts that take a long time to construct: two airfix kits, crystal growing kit, book of science experiments. Along with his minimal homework set, we'll be far from bored for two weeks.
