Oh sorry, he sounds like he's in the same boat as me. My only school (paid) job amounts to the princely sum of €210 a month. I hope I get all of it! I have to pay €289 a month just in social security Shock

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 15:24

@Powerplant no problem x de nada tbh I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested as it’s all about the uk situation and Italy. Worth keeping up to date with the cab spain link and the other links posted x the Wikipedia page is pretty good but not super up to date. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_coronavirus_pandemic_in_Spain

@Ofitck it’s pretty crappy!

I have a litre of Gin. As from tomorrow I am going nowhere!

Really shit about the English teachers pay. I can so, so easily see my DD's 'private' school (gaffaw) doing the same.

I also did this but gave it up as autonimo cost too much, frankly.

I instructed DD to come home with all school books, I do most of her English and French anyway.

They won't be back before Easter, I am sure now.

I am so sorry for all those suffering through this workwise etc.

(The bar opposite me is open and packed!)

Powerplant · 13/03/2020 15:50

@Nameisthegame thanks for the links. We have friends in Spain who have updated us and think there is restricted travel to certain areas in Spain. So looks unlikely our trip will go ahead!

DirtyTicket · 13/03/2020 15:57

The80sweregreat we're going to Malaga over Easter. I'm working on the basis that this won't be happening now.

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2020 16:02

I don't know what to do about our trip.
I bet we won't get a refund either.
Been looking forwards to a trip after five years of not going anywhere!
I know it's not important etc etc.

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 16:17

Sad what a bugger. I'm so sorry.

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2020 17:34

I'm sorry ; this situation is terrible and I'm moaning about a holiday ! I suppose I'm just fed up of everything!
None of this is good.

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 17:49

@The80sweregreat tbh I’m sure Spain wishes you were coming it’s a big part of the economic stability of this country.

@BillieEilish I’ve just popped some pink cava and enjoying my day, I’m just going to work on my online work as I am a online teacher and I help businesses with the online presence. So a corona virus discount (lighthearted)

@Powerplant where are your friends? Could you help keep us updated?

OP posts:
Powerplant · 13/03/2020 18:06

@nameisthegame will do they live near Antequera

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 18:29

Just got an email from DD's school, after the week fallas holiday (that has been cancelled, but is still a holiday) she will have online teaching from school from 9am sharp every day after that.

So good, they are keeping the 'temporary' teachers in their jobs.

What a pain though!

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2020 18:36

We might be able to put the holiday back.
I know it's nothing in the great scheme of things , but I'm still fed up about it. The tourist industry will take a big hit everywhere : ( it's awful for just about everything and so many livelihoods depends on tourists too.

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 18:55

economically it will be devastating for Spain.

I hope you can rearrange 80's Flowers

waltzingparrot · 13/03/2020 19:05

The British foreign office's website is advising against all but essential travel to certain areas of Spain. The website lists the areas.

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2020 19:20

Billie , love your username!
Thank you! I feel bad for being fed up when it's only money etc but I wanted to go away for a few days!

DonnaHaywood · 13/03/2020 19:34

@xJune88 this is the link I saw www.levante-emv.com/comunitat-valenciana/2020/03/13/bares-restaurantes-cerrados-valencia-coronavirus/1989161.html

I think it is pretty unlikely your husband's event will go ahead, as things are changing very quickly here.

Sorry to all of you missing holidays Sad I just heard Gandia is closing its beach, partly to discourage people from Madrid getting out of the city to the coast.

I hadn't seen any panic buying until tonight. Mercadona this evening completely stripped of water, paper products and tins. I panic bought wine Wine

DonnaHaywood · 13/03/2020 19:43

@The80sweregreat It's really sad, the half-built stairs are lying around the streets and the lights are all still up. Crazy that five days ago people were still gathering for the mascletas.

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 19:49

Donna I live in Gandia Shock

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 19:57

No, the 80's I completely understand, it is horrible for you x

It really is hour by hour here. Just phoned my DSis, she said 'oh it will peak here in June (UK)' I said, 'well hold on to your horses'.

xJune88 · 13/03/2020 20:00

Yeah his event was cancelled a couple of hours ago thank god!! Thanks for the link

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2020 20:15

Fallas is such a big deal for the people in Valencia! It's unique to them and it's sad it's not going ahead. More money lost too.
This virus is causing havoc.

BirdandSparrow · 13/03/2020 20:34

I live in Andalucía. All schools are shut until at least 30 March. The Junta just recommend the closure of all businesses except food shops and pharmacies. Burger King has closed across Andalucía, I've heard El Corte Inglés too, but not sure. The hashtag #quédateencasa is trending.
