Schools are starting to close now, Galicia,Madrid Cataluña/basque etc personally I wouldn’t travel here (if I didn’t live here 😂) theres 3000 cases now. Haha shampoo really! Maybe she’s a hairdresser? 😬 but most likely a crazed shopper lol

FCO hasn't advised against travel to Spain.

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 01:12

@canyon2000 sorry not too be clear that is on the times website I posted earlier www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/world/coronavirus-maps.html

@Nameisthegame sorry I was replying to MissMoiselle who was asking if travel to Spain had been restricted. I'm supposed to be going to Valencia on Wednesday but we have cancelled.

Novia · 13/03/2020 07:15

🤚🏻 I live in Madrid. Schools closed since Wednesday and unlikely to open before end of Easter at the earliest. Rumours flying around that Madrid will be shut off this weekend, if not the whole of Spain! Playgrounds have also been shut so kids can't congregate.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 13/03/2020 07:22

We've been going to la pineda (just outside BCN) for years for our autumn break. Lovely place and people. Sadly won't be booking it for this year.
Also have an Easter break booked for Canaries (La Palma.) it's looking extremely doubtful now.

MissMoiselle · 13/03/2020 08:44

4 towns/cities in Catalonia on lockdown since last night.
Schools in Murcia closed.
Madrid residents urged to stay home.

Just some of the headlines I saw this morning.
They've announced temperatures up to 33 degrees in Alicante next week. Don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing? Will people go out and mingle because the weather is nice? Is the virus less likely to spread when the weather is nice (as I read somewhere)?
Hope all my fellow MN Spain Expats are doing ok!

MissMoiselle · 13/03/2020 08:47

@Novia how are things in Madrid? Is it starting to look deserted like some tourist areas in Italy? Or is it business as usual?

MissMoiselle · 13/03/2020 08:50

@Nameisthegame checked the website you provided and there are over 3000 cases in Spain atm.

Novia · 13/03/2020 10:21

@missmoiselle - I'm actually in a town just outside so not heading into the centre at the moment. I was there last Saturday before things got serious and it was a quieter than usual. Everyone who can is working from home now and schools shut so I imagine it's very quiet. A lot of bars and restaurants are shut too. People have definitely got the message here and are being cautious.

Hoppinggreen · 13/03/2020 10:26

We were due to come over to Andalucia (Huelva ) in a couple of weeks but I don’t think we will. No flights booked yet thankfully so no financial loss
Everyone there was saying things were fine until this morning when there seems to have been a shift
Also we fly to Portugal and drive over the border so if that closes it will be difficult

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 12:44

I’m in Santiago de compestela, it’s quiet. I’m opposite two schools that are shut and the universities are shut for two weeks. Went to the doctors today and they have signs everywhere about the virus and have moved chairs infront of the reception area so you can’t get too close to them.

I'm in Valencia province. Fallas cancelled, last day of school today for I don't know how long. DD picking up her 'notes' and that's it.

Mercadona shelves empty last night and they have cancelled home delivery.

I agree a huge shift in 24 hours. Luckily, I did a big home delivery this Wednesday for all the main things we need x2. (I don't drive)

Interesting about the heat question. I wonder if that will help?

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 13:00

I don’t know about the heat a lot of people seem to think it but I haven’t really looked into it. Lleida in Catalunya has shut all educational places for atleast 2 weeks

OP posts:
Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 13:05

Galicia doesn’t really get that hot unlike other places in Spain 😬

OP posts:
BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 13:15

Well it's due to rain here all next week anyway Grin

I would love, love, love to live in Galicia.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 13/03/2020 13:21

We were due to go for a week's holiday to a wellness centre in the Malaga area tomorrow - they cancelled the program late last night. Sad

HalfSquareTriangle · 13/03/2020 13:22

I'm in Seville, schools are closed from Monday here too. Supermarket shelves v empty this morning - saw someone buying 24 yoghurts haha

Now everyone nervously waiting to hear if Semana Santa and the April Fair will be cancelled...

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 13:23

Oh no! I'm so sorry.

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 13:24

Oh yes, Semana Santa is such a big deal... good point. I think it will TBH.

meuca · 13/03/2020 13:27

Why such an interest in Lleida? The most affected part of Catalunya is Igualada and the surrounding towns, now on total lockdown. Worryingly, over half the confirmed cases in Igualada are medical personnel.

All schools and universities in Cat are now closed.

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 13:28

@BillieEilish haha don’t worry! We don’t have a a lot of cases or visitors at this time of year more worried about later because of the Camino and pilgrims. It is a beautiful if a bit chillier place to live in Spain.

Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 13:29

@meuca it’s just I have friends there so I know first hand what’s happening and it’s not really being reported on.

OP posts:
Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 13:30

They didn’t stop the woman’s march here (rumor) because they were afraid of a riot but someone who attended was infected (Santiago de compestela)

OP posts:
Nameisthegame · 13/03/2020 13:33

Eeek that’s worrying I wonder what they will do about the medical professionals.
