Aibu to think this is wrong and opportunistic. Obviously its because of coronavirus. This is so annoying ad I use it regularly as im immunocompromised.

I’d report to trading standards.

That’s profiteering. It’s not on.

Independant pharmacy?

Yes it was independent ive used them for years and now I think that will change because its outrageous to be making such a markup.

I would seriously question the ethics of any healthcare professional who does this and would take my prescriptions elsewhere in future. Unless it has cost them more to buy in, I can't justify them extorting customers. Increasing £2 to £3 isn't great but I would suck it up but not £15

I do have every sympathy for people who are immunosuppressed and can't get hold of things like this. It's probably not effective against coronavirus anyway, so it's not as if it's of any use to the rest of us.

The hand gels I got from Superdrug for £3.49 are selling for £40 plus on Ebay. It's disgusting.

Make your own!
Get some aloe vera gel (it's usually in the after sun section) put in one third and top it up with surgical spirit or vodka (a drop of lavender essential oil if the smell is too bad) that wont cost too much plus you can make lads and drink the remaining vodka or if you use surgical spirit it's cheap anyway.

Yup report them and take your trade elsewhere. I wouldn't trust any Pharmacist who was profiteering.

Direct them to this statement and tell them to reduce their price, or you will be reporting them.

Glam that's bollocks advice. Sanitizer has to be 60% alcohol to be even slightly effective against coronavirus or flu. Yours wouldn't even be 40% so it just nonsense.

Isn't this the free market we voted for ? I thought socialism was well and truly rejected last year ?

Just wait until we start paying proper prices for our medicines.

I didnt think hand sanitizer had any affect on virus'?

If it's a high alcohol content it can destroy the outside of the virus and therefore work. If it is below 60% alcohol, it can't.

Name and shame, anyone who can remember the fuel crisis of 2000 might remember garages who put the their prices up didn't survive, people really don't like profiteering.

They are stupid.
Twas a long time ago but when there was a petrol strike, one petrol station near us put the price up by 4x.
What they had forgotten was that the strike would end and no one would ever buy fuel from them again. They were out of business in weeks.

@MrsTerryPratchett, glam got the amounts wrong. Its supposed to be 1/3 cup aloe gel and 2/3 cup vodka/surgical spirit. This recipe would be 66% alcohol while still being a gel

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2020 14:53

Vodka is generally only about 40%. Add gel and it's about 26%. Nowhere near the 60% it needs to be.
