Covid
Chemist charging £15 for sanitiser!
Ilovecupcakke · 06/03/2020 14:29
Aibu to think this is wrong and opportunistic. Obviously its because of coronavirus. This is so annoying ad I use it regularly as im immunocompromised.
Ilovecupcakke · 06/03/2020 14:30
Also for reference this product was never more than £2.
RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 06/03/2020 14:35
Yanbu
Would surprise me if anyone says you are
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/03/2020 14:37
I’d report to trading standards.
That’s profiteering. It’s not on.
Ilovecupcakke · 06/03/2020 14:37
Independant pharmacy?
Yes it was independent ive used them for years and now I think that will change because its outrageous to be making such a markup.
riddles26 · 06/03/2020 14:38
I would seriously question the ethics of any healthcare professional who does this and would take my prescriptions elsewhere in future. Unless it has cost them more to buy in, I can't justify them extorting customers. Increasing £2 to £3 isn't great but I would suck it up but not £15
ByeMF · 06/03/2020 14:38
I do have every sympathy for people who are immunosuppressed and can't get hold of things like this. It's probably not effective against coronavirus anyway, so it's not as if it's of any use to the rest of us.
HairyFloppins · 06/03/2020 14:39
The hand gels I got from Superdrug for £3.49 are selling for £40 plus on Ebay. It's disgusting.
GlamGiraffe · 06/03/2020 14:40
Make your own!
Get some aloe vera gel (it's usually in the after sun section) put in one third and top it up with surgical spirit or vodka (a drop of lavender essential oil if the smell is too bad) that wont cost too much plus you can make lads and drink the remaining vodka or if you use surgical spirit it's cheap anyway.
HowlsMovingBungalow · 06/03/2020 14:40
Yup report them and take your trade elsewhere. I wouldn't trust any Pharmacist who was profiteering.
cologne4711 · 06/03/2020 14:41
www.gov.uk/government/news/cma-statement-on-sales-and-pricing-practices-during-coronavirus-outbreak
Direct them to this statement and tell them to reduce their price, or you will be reporting them.
MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2020 14:41
Glam that's bollocks advice. Sanitizer has to be 60% alcohol to be even slightly effective against coronavirus or flu. Yours wouldn't even be 40% so it just nonsense.
SerendipityJane · 06/03/2020 14:42
Isn't this the free market we voted for ? I thought socialism was well and truly rejected last year ?
Just wait until we start paying proper prices for our medicines.
Siameasy · 06/03/2020 14:43
Taking the piss! Those not in your position could just use soap and water?
Yourteaisgettingcold · 06/03/2020 14:44
I didnt think hand sanitizer had any affect on virus'?
MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2020 14:47
I didnt think hand sanitizer had any affect on virus'?
If it's a high alcohol content it can destroy the outside of the virus and therefore work. If it is below 60% alcohol, it can't.
coconuttelegraph · 06/03/2020 14:47
Name and shame, anyone who can remember the fuel crisis of 2000 might remember garages who put the their prices up didn't survive, people really don't like profiteering.
AJPTaylor · 06/03/2020 14:48
They are stupid.
Twas a long time ago but when there was a petrol strike, one petrol station near us put the price up by 4x.
What they had forgotten was that the strike would end and no one would ever buy fuel from them again. They were out of business in weeks.
RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 06/03/2020 14:48
Yes it was independent ive used them for years and now I think that will change
Don’t blame you, I’d do exactly the same
Mammyofasuperbaby · 06/03/2020 14:50
@MrsTerryPratchett, glam got the amounts wrong. Its supposed to be 1/3 cup aloe gel and 2/3 cup vodka/surgical spirit. This recipe would be 66% alcohol while still being a gel
MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2020 14:53
Vodka is generally only about 40%. Add gel and it's about 26%. Nowhere near the 60% it needs to be.
