Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

mids2019 · 10/03/2026 07:33

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

So actually the issue is that people don’t want to buy Indian and Chinese cargo? We can’t surely think it’s that unreasonable to say “I don’t want you in my waters carrying on trade if you are bombing my people.”?

I lean hard towards international law and think Israel and the US need to be made to follow it. Law is there to stop conflict and injustice.

It protects rogue states who torture and oppress their people. It also gives licence to develop nuclear weapons that the leaders would use.

If you do nothing the problem won’t go away, it gets closer to being pretty fatal.

In a roundabout way maybe, but the core problem is that people have exposed themselves to too much debt, that is the bit that is going to hurt, in the 1970"s people were not carrying debt loads like this, and many industries were getting pay rises all the time, this is way worse than the 1970"s for the average person.

But high debt is what has been encouraged. The banks profit of it. For wach morthage, they get a lot of capital. The higher the mortgage the better for them. They are a huge factor in driving property values up. It is in their interest.
Yes, a change will help us to build resilience. And I hope it happens, but in a controlled way. Not 2008 crisis multiplied by 100. Worst than the major energy crisis of the past, combined. If Trump, Israel and Iran stick to their crazy rethoric ( I think they will not, by the way)
It is getting more complex by the minute to identify any "good" guys into this conflict. Trump has threatened both Canada and Greenland. Same as he did with Venezuela and Iran, and then went ahead and did it. Even with not a draft of a proper plan with regards to Iran. Trump is making allies into enemies, by the minute. Our governments have to worry about their million of citizens and the incoming global crisis.
We just had an arson or similar attack on UK soil. One that slipped the net. I think nobody has died. But at least 30 people had to be taken out of their homes. 4 ambulances gone. And the precious difficult to rebuild trust. We still need to wait for the investigation to be sure of who isthe perpetrator.
We are considerably worst than before this war started, bar Iran's military has been rather damaged.

Nope, they are all the three crazy parties involved in this war. The war that is at the verge of breaking the world's economy. The 3 of them.

Fair enough! I apologise for the incorrect assumption.

No need to apologise! I should have been clearer.

@RedTagAlan and @rainingsnoring appreciate the solidarity ❤️.

I thought about asking Mumsnet to delete the post, however the rest of the post was answering a question.

I corrected myself within 7 minutes, after checking my truthsocial account.

I've had a coffee now, so I won't be petty, growth isn't it wonderful.

I think you and @Alexandra2001 have made important points about the potential economic effects.
It has the potential to get far worse than what either of you have stated. I hope that it does not. As I have said several times before, this war was always going to be a total disaster from the start. The US have waded in with no strategy whatsoever and are now totally stuck. I have heard that the US administration was messaging Iranian politicians over the weekend begging for a ceasefire and that the Iranians said no.

FOJN · 23/03/2026 11:42

BelleHathor · 22/03/2026 22:30

If the war stays conventional, in terms of economics, we're in for a hell of a hard landing. There is a lot of market manipulation happening right now, "paper" oil futures were trading for approximately $100 last week, whilst physical oil was trading for $140. Someone (aka taxpayers) will have to account for that difference. We've also lost approx 5% of worldwide LNG due to the damage to Qatar last week.

Food security will also be affected due to the lack of fertiliser and it's planting season in many places now.

Unfortunately, Trump has just effectively threatened to Nuke Iran if they respond to the Americans bombing Iranian electrical infrastructure.

The Americans need to invoke the 25th amendment and remove Trump from office now. His ego and impulsiveness is a threat to all humans.

Iran was a nuclear threshold country with plenty of uranium enriched to 60%. They could respond in kind or via targeting Israel's Dimona Nuclear site.

Morning, I understand the discrepancy between futures and physical oil but the price of futures has dropped to $90 this morning having opened last night at $98 ish. Do you know why that is happening? Is it optimism about how things are going (that would require a lot of drugs) or is the price just being managed by the release of strategic reserves? Several countries are already making significant adjustments to cope with shortages so that seems unlikely. The market is clearly being manipulated but how?

I'm surprised about how many people still do not grasp how serious this is. The deadline Trump issued for the S of H to be opened expires at about 00.45 UK time after which he's threatening to bomb civilian energy infrastructure. In return Iran have said if he does that all bets are off and they will target desalination plants. I alternate between pretending its particularly dark reality TV and despair.

In any case, it appears to be over ?

Morning FOJN, I'll be absolutely honest and say I have no fucking clue about what is happening with the markets right now. My friends who are trader's are just as confused.

I do know that if you follow Trumps "Truths" posts they always seem to happen around the time that markets would close/open (US due to open soon). Like @RedTagAlan has posted above, that "5 day pause" will coincide perfectly with the markets closing on Friday. Trump and the US treasury appear to be manipulating the market.

Tasnim News an Iranian news channel has just announced that Iran is not in talks with America, which confirms what Aragachi said a few days ago.

Historically a with a conflict like this you would expect the price of commodities like Oil and Gas to rise. The same with precious metals (Gold, Silver) instead the prices are crashing.

Someone or an entity is selling off their positions in order to push the prices down or cover other losses.

Of course he will. He is doing his usual TACO.

I reckon they have run out of missile interceptors, and Iran is still firing missiles. He really has no choice. He can't win.

Cuba next. Iran is too hard. He could not get Greenland. So now it's Cuba.

Yes, I’ve seen the posts about hospitals in Cuba struggling for power. It’s horrific. The US are paving the way for another ‘excursion’.

It did sound like him, and having watched hours of his press conferences and rallies in the past, I was like it's him.

It is a doozy to follow, I do have a Truth social account after the "Great Twitter purges of 2021" and if you see some of the replies from his followers they literally treat him like a God.

It seems some will celebrate that Iran have won, you’d be mad to in the U.K., especially if you’ve got dc, we’d be first up if they did get the weapons.

Anyone commenting on the issue. I can understand people who are not feeling more immune due to geography but the reason all G7 agree on Iran is because MAD is likely to escalate.

I'm not convinced that many people understand that fuel rationing, electricity blackouts and food shortages could be a consequence of this conflict.

I've just seen the BBC report Trumps truth social post on their YouTube channel. There seems to be a high degree of scepticism in the comments that this is Trump's attempt at market manipulation and that no negotiations have taken place. He issued his ultimatum within the last two days which would be an odd thing to do if negotiations were being productive. I'd like to believe it but I'll wait and see.

Given you keep repeating that the G7 keep saying Iran has nukes, is there anyone else who they also say should not have nukes ?

And I don't see why being in the UK makes any difference really. Nuke war does sort of effect everyone ?

I've concluded there are two types of TDS; he can't do anything right and he can't do anything wrong, I've not previously been afflicted with either but it seems clear now that he's quite dangerously out of control.

I saw a meme earlier that said:

No you’ve got their position wrong. It’s that they can’t have them.

And yes it would impact nearly everyone which is why anyone happy about a win by Iran is probably not thinking ahead to what they would do if they could.
