Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

Can't help but think the markets will have something to say about Trump's trip from "we've 199% destroyed them, the strait is open, Britian can shove their aircraft carrier" to "the strait is shut ,why aren't bother people sorting it?!"

I said I had just read an article on it. So no not me. So back to you with the same, read the post again.

I did read your post. If you want I "read an article" to be associated with a claim about cutting of income from oil sales perhaps you could put them in the same post.

As a PP pointed out restricting Iranian oil sales will piss off China and I don't think the US is in any position to make more enemies.

Sure keep getting crosser about order or posts or whatever. Enjoy your evening.

Not cross at all. More confused than anything. You enjoy your evening too.

I think Trump expected the same outcome as Venezuela. Needless to say, it hasn't gone in the same direction at all.

FOJN · 14/03/2026 22:53

I've just done a Google search - the USS Tripoli is stationed in Sasebo, Japan and will take 10 - 14 days to get to the Gulf of Oman. Let's hope that's enough time for common sense to prevail if the US are thinking about a ground invasion.

Jury is very much still out on Venezuela as well - the same party are in power, daily life for your average Venezuelan hasn’t improved. None of the Venezuelans I know are making plans to go back and visit any time soon either.

If we send warships to the Middle East because Trump asked, we are idiotic. We should stay away for the whole thing.

He's trying to bully everyone into joining this war over the Strait of Hormuz.

He's literally attempting to create world war 3.

I hope Starmer stays strong and today's talk with Canada forms a strong stand off together. Canada have been royally shafted by Trump for the last 18 months so I am hoping they tell him where to go.

Some posters here were cheering when he tried to bully Spain into letting the US use their bases. When he said that the US was going to cut trade with Spain(not understanding how the EU works because this is Trump after all) some posters on this board were full of approval and saying that they should kick Spain out of NATO too. It beggars belief the things that people support but some really do support Trumps do as I say or you will be punished tactics.

They don"t need to, I heard they threatened to start selling off U.S Treasuries (Sweden was supposedly actively selling) and he backed off, it is all about the Ten Year Yield, most of the recent U-Turns happened as the Ten Year approached the magic 5% (as UK yields were doing last time I checked) Not sure how he backs out of this one though?

Exactly! And stay put watching Putin like a hawk! We do have enough issues.
I never thought I would live to say the day that US would be the country to watch for hostile actions, but here we are......

There are people in both the UK and USA encouraging Trump to overthrow the British government. They include Stephen Yaxley Lennon , who is taken more seriously in the US than by many on this side of the pond. No doubt many of the pay-triots on the far right would welcome their new overlords.

Overlords to the left of me ,overlords to the right...here I am stuck in the middle with you!

MushMonster · 19/03/2026 06:14

More U- turns on we were coordinated, I did not inow about it, we will not do it again with the attacks on South Pars gas field.
Yesterday, it was reported that the attack was coordinated with US. This morning, Trump says he did not know and it will not happen again.
I do hope they leave civil and oil installations alone, including, of course, desalinisation plants! And oil and gas and electric plants!

It's really concerning that Trump is saying that Israel out of anger 'violently lashed out'. If this is true then where else have Israel angrily and violently lashing out? That Israel have nuclear weapons and a government that angrily and violently lashes out should be a concern to us all.

MushMonster · 19/03/2026 08:29

I know, the angrily lashing out does not "add" any sense of restored control on a volatile conflict.
I think Trump knew. That is my gut instinct. Now he is panicking because the ME states are threatening him with removing the bases and trade for good, or similar. Or MAGA and the finance people is shouting at him.
He does not come out like he is in control. The initial strikes were coordinated, mostly precise ( bless the poor school girls), but now it seems to be descending on a violent chaos. Making something already crazy into... I have no word for it.... Hell, maybe? The gates of hell. We can just hope that they have the sense not to step into hell!

( on a note, where is Vance?)

Notonthestairs · 19/03/2026 08:33

Vance is keeping out of it as far as possible because he knows it will split MAGA and he’ll run on a rehashed ‘no more wars, America First’ ticket.
