Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

I should have written say war has split MAGA, not that it will.

Vance is keeping out of it as far as possible because he knows it will split MAGA and he’ll run on a rehashed ‘no more wars, America First’ ticket.

Absolutely. He will run on a " bring jobs back to the rust belt" ticket.

Setting regime change back a decade

“Before the US and Israel launched their attacks three weeks ago, experts had assessed that the regime was stagnating in the face of protests and that some kind of change appeared inevitable. That dynamic has now changed.”

US and Israel’s strategy to kill Iran’s top figures may prove counterproductive

Attempt to ‘decapitate’ state may harden resistance instead of destabilising regime

I know, the angrily lashing out does not "add" any sense of restored control on a volatile conflict.
I think Trump knew. That is my gut instinct. Now he is panicking because the ME states are threatening him with removing the bases and trade for good, or similar. Or MAGA and the finance people is shouting at him.
He does not come out like he is in control. The initial strikes were coordinated, mostly precise ( bless the poor school girls), but now it seems to be descending on a violent chaos. Making something already crazy into... I have no word for it.... Hell, maybe? The gates of hell. We can just hope that they have the sense not to step into hell!

( on a note, where is Vance?)

I think the Orange Turds panic is more about realising there might be no oil and gas to be exported for a while.

I am surprised Trump is letting him disappear like this and, indeed, potentially become his adversary.

Notonthestairs · 19/03/2026 08:43

I assume Vance is encouraging Trump to take the full glory. I’m sure he wouldn’t want to overshadow him.

He has his own + Venezuela ( though I think that needs investment to bring it up to speed) plus he is letting his mate, Putin, oil free too.
I do not think he is wortied about oil for the US, but I can imagine the pressure from the rest of the world is mounting indeed. I cannot imagine people turning up with a State visit invitation no more.

Trump will throw Vance under the bus faster than he can shake a stick. He only wants yes men.

Who was that other fella who was VP ? The one they wanted to hang on capitol hill ?

@MushMonster It's easy enough to just Google Vance rather than all this speculation:

Vance steps into limelight on Iran war as Rubio lays low

Vice President Vance is taking a more forward-facing role and defending his past isolationist stances on foreign affairs as the war in Iran continues amid questions over his support for the operation.

Vance appeared with President Trump in the Oval Office on Monday to launch an antifraud initiative spearheaded by the vice president. At the White House, Trump and Vance presented a united front amid questions over Vance’s stance on the war. It also saw a tense exchange with a reporter who questioned the former senator’s past, outspoken railing against the U.S. getting involved in foreign affairs.

Notably keeping a lower profile in recent days is Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has become the face of the administration on foreign policy in Trump’s second term. He is notably not giving the next lawmaker briefing, with that being left to special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Yup. He has his VZ oil, but gotta remember oils are not the same. A refinery is designed for a specific type of oil. Can't put heavy VZ oil through a refinery designed for lighter Saudi stuff.

That surely would hit other countries with high debt too

logicisall · 19/03/2026 09:34

After the latest news that Trump's pal Netanyahu was responsible the Pars gas field bombing, it's not just Trump responsible for the COL (and other) pain people are experiencing. They are both equally guilty but Trump's not crowing atm because he's been blindsided by Israel in this one (and not happy!)

I had a quick read on it, here’s a take -

The cost would, again, be too great. For the rest of the world, yield curves would steepen, global borrowing rates would surge, and sovereign debt burdens would be that much harder to pay down and refinance. It would be a nightmare for countries such as France, which boasts the largest sovereign bond market in Europe by debt outstanding, and has a growing deficit with no end (or budget) in sight.

KeepPumping · 19/03/2026 12:12

Now talking about "un-sanctioning" Iranian oil that is "already on the water". The world runs on oil and cheap debt, they need to do anything they can to keep inflation down.
