Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

Quite possibly but my point was that they don't need to attack every ship that attempts to transit. They can effectively close the strait by making it seem too risky. I don't think they are wasting munitions unnecessarily so perception matters.

Yes, fair point, one sunk tanker means 100 tankers won"t make the trip, not sure they are short of things to fire though?

There’s no way Trump will let up. He isn’t going to tell Israel to stop and Israel are not going to stop. On top of that his ego and thoughts of how history will see him (his legacy) will prevent him from stopping anyway.

The US is only doing this because they knew Israel were doing it with or without them. Israel started this war, not the US. Either the US thought that it would be quicker if they helped Israel or Israel has someting over Trump.

VoiceFromThePit · 14/03/2026 16:51

Iran and US were going to sign a deal back in June 2025. When Israel found out they were close to a deal they attacked Iran and killed the negotiators.

Iran and US were about to sign a deal just over two weeks ago, when Israel found out how close the deal was they told the US they would be attacking Iran, so Trump went in with Israel to try and get it all over with.

I think he's also being given questionable intelligence about Iran's capabilities. They knew this was coming and have planned for asymmetric warfare.

There were reports in US media late last night that marine expedition unit of several thousand has been sent to the region. The suspicion is that they plan to take control of Kharg Island which is the main Iranian oil terminal. It was bombed overnight with Trump claiming oil infrastructure was undamaged but all military sites had been destroyed. If this is the start of boots on the ground then I have no idea what they are planning from there. Trying to cross the water and get through the Zagros mountains seems like a suicide mission.

Would that 'Israel having something over Trump' be anything to do with Epstein do we suppose?

Like something out of an Alistair MacLean novel, total madness.

It’s just to hold the island and oil rather than get across the water? Where did you see this?

Which bit? The BBC, Sky news, the WSJ and the LES among others are all reporting on this now. The MEU is being lead by the USS Tripoli. Seems unlikely they are sending an amphibious assault ship to just keep the USS Abraham Lincoln company in the Gulf of Oman.

There are plenty of former marines in YouTube explaining exactly what an MEU does.
Attempting to take control of and hold Kharg Island will be a very tall order. I only hope there aren't too many US body bags as a result.

I would also add that the announcement of this plan and the bombing of Kharg Island both took place after the oil futures markets closed last night. It seems to me Trump is desperate to control oil prices and is both stupid and naive enough to think he can get a weekend win before the markets open again tomorrow at 11 pm UK time.

I mean your line on start of boots on the ground and Zagros mountains - where did you see that part?

I’ve seen reports on the military hit and the high level of income the IRGC gets from the oil crossing through there.

What's your issue about the mountains? I've made it clear where I read a news report and where I'm speculating. If you don't understand the challenges facing any force attempting a ground invasion of Iran what are you doing cheer leading for war?

Search "Iran as a natural fortress" on YouTube. You'll get several results posted at different times by different people. They are generally about military strategy rather than politics; there is a real consensus about how difficult it would be.

notimagain · 14/03/2026 20:29

Well one things probably for sure - if the aim is boots on the ground with a view to going all the way to Tehran I wouldn't be starting from the south of the country.. mountains or not it's a hell of a long way. Even with Trump as POTUS I don't think that's the plan.

Whether a MEU can take Kharg I'll leave to the experts.

I just read an article on the island that didn’t tally with your post so asked for more info.

If it’s just you speculating fine. There’s not much more to say on it, I’ll read up elsewhere.

As for ‘cheering’ and ground invasion I haven’t seen mention it’s via Kharg Island hence the question on your post.

The main reason seems to be cutting off income stream from oil sales.

You need to read my post properly. At no point did I claim the pentagon had shared their plans with me. An amphibious assault ship and a MEU have been deployed, these are facts. Why? We don't know yet but given the nature of the reinforcements it almost certainly means US military boots on Iranian soil, that is a ground invasion. Kharg Island or something else?

The main reason seems to be cutting off income stream from oil sales.

Have the pentagon been in touch with you or are you speculating too?

That seriously affects China though, they are not going to be happy about that?
